Wait a sec, I submitted one for an album the other day without being aware of this challenge, but it happened to be a "virgin album" and I think it was after the dates were declared.... does it count?

Yep, any virgins submitted during this time period count, regardless of intent on the part of the author. Funny story, I actually participated in one of the earliest challenges here by accident by submitting 2 virgin albums in my preferred style. I literally had no idea that there was anything like it going on because I spent extremely little time on the forum back then.

Good work so far guys, still 4 days to go and we're exactly halfway to beating the total from the last challenge :)

Do reviews of singles count towards the total? I've been reviewing some Tyrant of Death stuff and I notice there's a solitary single in the discography which turns out to be pretty killer, and I'm wondering if it's worth tackling that one too or if I should save it for some time in the future.

Yep, there is a cap of reviewing 5 singles per person, but it counts.

I removed the hard cap a while ago; it's just too much of a pain to try to keep track of and police.

That said, please note what the OP says:
Quote:
2. Every release listed on the main site is valid including singles, videos, boxed sets and so on.
However please try to refrain from mass reviewing singles for this challenge. That's lame.

Kluseba is proving that he sucks by reviewing live albums and compilations by well known bands. Basically cheating!

Wow, Metantoine, what a cheap comment to call me "basically" a cheater. If I had written such a thing, you would be among the first guys to call me ''butthurt'' or ''passive-aggressive'' or compare me to Lord Durham. Of course, I didn't expect any encouraging comments from you. I hope you're not that negative with your students. Instead of wasting your time and ranting here, why don't you go ahead and write some good reviews of your own? You have always written some good quality reviews about Finnish death/doom metal and French Canadian black metal bands. There you go, I encourage you positively and constructively!

I'm very satisfied with my participation so far, not only quantity-wise but especially quality-wise. I've put some time and thought into my reviews and I'm proud of it. That's all that matters to me. I hope we will surpass the total numbers of last year's challenge. I don't really care who is going to write the most reviews. Nobody is going to beat Diamhea's epic run anyway.

Oops, totally forgot about that. I've been systematically avoiding reviewing singles unless it is by bands that have no other releases or from obscure NWOBHM bands where such releases usually contained unique work. Back in the early days I got obsessed with just trying to see how high I could get my number of reviews in a single week's time, but now I'm a bit more interested in trying to find new stuff that I've either never heard or what I think most other people likely haven't encountered.

He's already written a fair amount of good reviews for the challenge, so that's moot.

nothing wrong with reviewing live albums but i do think compilations are a bit beside the point of this challenge.

I would totally support you if you were writing stuff for bands deserving exposure and reviews, I always support everyone who do that. It's the entire point of the challenge for me. This is not about the quality of your reviews since I have no interest in reading reviews for Kreator or Death Angel live albums or Voivod or Sentenced compilations. This isn't cheating (I was joking) but it sucks. I don't have any constructive criticisms to offer, sadly. I've criticized many people for writing reviews for obvious bands (see my disdain towards TrooperEd) but doing it for the review challenge just makes me angry. With that said, I did like your Solstafir review.

Thanks for the compliment and yeah, I do want to write some more reviews before the challenge is over. I'm finishing one right now.

Alright, everything's fine. I was trying to find more proper studio albums as well but most of them are already covered, so I decided to go for some release of my favorite bands such as Voivod, Kreator and the likes that didn't get any reviews so far. At least, I'm not reviewing dozens of records from Buckethead, Senmuth or Sloth ;-)

I can understand your point regarding Sloth but what's wrong about reviewing Buckethead or Senmuth?

Guys, I don't care what you review for the challenge, so long as they're virgins, and you're not an asshole about it.

The point of the challenge is to have fun. Have fun. :P

Yes!

I'd like people to review the new Unleash the Archers. I might do it but it's not exactly my kind of stuff.

Heh, looks like that's it for me. Have to finally get my taxes done tonight and then Friday I'm off for the weekend to Montreal to drink beer with Metantoine, Necrotocism214, RageW/reiter and Markov.

Hope you have a nice time! Really enjoyed your Angel Sword review man, you totally should check out their debut if you get a chance. It's even better!

And nice job everyone, I've been reading reviews of all sorts of interesting stuff. Hope we can keep it up and beat last year's record :hyper:

There's a good chance I'll review that one before the week is over. It's up next on my list for sure! Of course, I probably won't say anything you'll want to hear about it :P

I was thinking about it. One of my buddies is a gigantic fan so I hear about them all the time but never actually listened to them so it could be fun.

Hey tomcat, nice Nux Vomica review. I actually just picked up that album a few weeks ago and just got Asleep in the Ashes a few days ago. I was planning on reviewing either one of them, but I honestly haven't spent enough time with them to write a review yet.

Unleash the Archers are super, super lame. As I said in the thread about them, their name is also lame. Archery is cowardly. Yeah, a bunch of longbowmen was deadly and could easily decide if a battle was won or lost, but it's seriously the lamest thing you could unleash on the field of battle apart from like, dudes with flutes.

i struggled a bit with that review actually, had to review quite a few parts. Usually i just fuck up the spelling, punctuation and everything that makes the review easily readable. But this time it took me a few tries to get what i experienced on paper and even know i feel it is kinda short on content.

Not to mention they're a chorus-centric band, which itself isn't a deal-breaker for me, but all their choruses are mid-paced and lame and stupid. And the harsh vocalist sucks.

We're both teachers. I have a degree in high school teaching for history/geography. Also, being a mod and a teacher is two different things lol

Yeah it's always hard to tell...some of the more productive reviewers can crank out more of them during the workweek and basically stop on the weekend, while sometimes the opposite is also true. We'll see what happens. I've got a few more to write.

Not really sure if I deserve credit. I just did it cos the idea of reviewing BastardHead's band was intriguing, and even if someone finished a review before I did I probably would have written it anyway.

I can try to crank out another one or two over the weekend but I've got a packed schedule so there's no guarantee really. Just got lucky to have a few spare hours on Wednesday really.
