Will be trying to participate in the review challenge, but I'll opt out of Secret Satan since I've got no idea how often if at all I'll be able to publish reviews. Also totally in favour of renaming the challenge in honour of Diamhea.

I'm gonna participate in this challenge as well, not for SS though.

I absolutely can't beat any record, I write too slowly and the language barrier prevents me to write more than one review in that time period. But I'm ok to rename this challenge. Diamhea was the king of reviews, it seems logical to me to pay him tribute through this challenge.

Hey guys. Thanks for the support on changing the review challenge title to honor Diamhea. I haven't yet posted in the stickied thread because I'm not great with farewells and dedications, but I thought the least we could do is name the challenge in his honor. He was a great, prolific reviewer (who still holds the single challenge review title, mind you), almost single-handedly kept the review queue manageable, and was just a great friend. Fingers crossed that we have enough support, but seeing the responses here seems like it's a no-brainer.

Aye, I think it's unanimous. I'll change over the name of this challenge and all future challenges shortly.

I was about to suggest giving him the rank "Metal angel" or something, but felt like it was unfitting for what he has been. Naming the review challenging in his memory is way more fitting. Keep his spirit alive.

unconsidering the ungodly amounts of work he put into this site something more infernal sounding would be more appropriate.

An amazing idea. I'll try to do my best to bang out some for the challenge. I have some things I am working on as we speak.

What is the deadline for Secret Satan? We're all going to need a few listens to digest some of these albums, I think, so we should make it soon.

I usually aim to send the matches out a week ahead of time, so expect your matches either late tonight or early tomorrow morning. :)

EDIT: And they're out!

Unfortunately, next week is probably going to be extremely busy at work and I'm also decorating a new apartment, so I'm not sure that I'll be able to do as much as I expected. On the other hand, I'm also very well-prepared, so any time I do have should be very productive...

I'm on holiday from the 15th, so I should be able to complete. I accidentally reviewed one of the albums I was supposed to do last night, though. :P

Okay, this is my first challenge so I have a stupid question I'd like clarification on. If an album has no reviews when the challenge begins but is reviewed before I submit mine, mine still counts right?

hah, Acrobat. That Tudor was on my list of possibilities for the challenge, too. Glad you got to it, though. That was an excellent take on that recording. And you're right, "1558" is a great tune!

So long as it was a virgin at the start of the challenge, I will count it. That means that, well, if someone beats you to it, you can still review it and have your review count.

Also welcome to your first challenge :)

Been sitting on a few half-finished reviews that happen to be for virgins. What better time to get them knocked out.

I'm with you there, this challenge will be a good way to clear out some of the backlog cluttering up my review file. Maybe I can get more than two done in a week, hopefully. . . probably not.

I have never tried the challenge, mostly due to my not having a standard Internet connection or a PC to write and submit the reviews. But if it means not to make the sit better, by reviewing virgin albums, AND honorng Christopher then I am up for it !

Well, isn't it the case that if we hit the same album in the challenge then it still counts, right? Thanks! I'm still surprised that a lot of credit isn't given where it's due for the non-Scandi bands producing some really interesting and excellent black metal before everyone else.

Looking pretty good so far, I got off to a bit of a slower start than I planned as I got knocked down by a pretty nasty cold 2 days ago. That Death in The Yard album that raspberrysoda hit was also on my short-list, I may still end up reviewing it as I have a very different take on it than he does, only problem is I'm weary of doing these "Oh, it's not that bad!" reviews. lol

Well, I cleared out my queue of old stuff that was largely done (though a couple of the things that I had that went up yesterday were things I did just fully write yesterday), so you can't count on me for 16 more every day, haha. But I'll be doing a few more. Glad it's off to a good start.

I applaud every one of you. There's no way in hell I could find the time or brain power to pump out that many reviews at once. I struggle to even do one daily.

If I'm being honest, I usually steer clear of submitting reviews around this time because it would stress me out. I know it's just a fun challenge, but the way my brain works, I'd feel under pressure. Plus, the rate that they go up, I don't bother trying to keep up reading them all, so I'd assume most would do the same for mine.

I'm pretty busy so I'll probably have to do my customary "three or four over the weekend" approach it's looking like.

Eh, people still read if something catches their eye or it's a reviewer they like. The Challenge has always been more for the site's benefit at heart and I think most people go in knowing that people are only really looking at personal numbers during this time. If you feel like you can contribute to the site via reviews, now is the best time to do so I'd say.

Unless this is just a cover and you don't know anything less popular than Megadeth :p

Very funny, haha. A large portion of my recent reviews that aren't Megadeth are "less known" bands. I have a handful of others on my list to write but coincidentally this week I'm booked through the roof and have very little time.

I find it fun to do a variety of new/less known stuff as well as give my takes on classic albums.

Just popping in to say that everyone's doing an ace job so far. Very nice to see all these unsung recordings appearing by the dozen on the reviews page. I have a lot more albums I can cover, and I'm going to try and crank out at least one or two per day. If anyone is just chomping at the bit to do more and wants albums to review, send me a message and I can hook you up.

Bastardhead and I had a really nice Secret Satan exchange and both ended up liking each others' albums a great deal. I sent him Dragonauta and he sent me Oxygen Destroyer. Sharing music is another worthy goal of this challenge.

Just an FYI, there is a Volbeat record with no reviews, if anybody's looking for an easy one. I know they aren't the most liked band on the archives, but worth mentioning.

I was devastated to see The Crown were in the same category at the start of the challenge. No one reviewed their newest album full three months after it was out, so I gave it some prominence as the first review of the challenge :-D

Was able to squeeze in a quick review to contribute to the challenge. As predicted though, I'm somewhat disappointed with it because naturally I felt under pressure (I can't explain why I do that during this time of year). Maybe I'm just being too hard on myself.
