I'm just starting out, and would love to review more. My preferences are:

Doom (Sludge, Trad, Stoner, Funeral, anything), Speed/Traditional, Groove.

I'll review anything really, but this is what I'm most interested in. Additionally, if a band happens to be from Australia I'll review them no matter what - I'm attempting to get a blog going of reviews relating to the Aussie metal scene.

Is the total reviews count for each user slightly out of date? I'm asking primarily because every list shows Noktorn behind me when he should be ahead of me by about 50 reviews.

I think it counts splits only once, unlike the MA stats page. Noktorn has a shitload of reviews on those.

The stats page still shows splits as multiple releases? Damn, that's annoying in trying to get an accurate count. I detest reviewing splits to begin with- even less impetus now if they're fucking up my numbers.

I know being #1 really gets your goat. Kills all that underdog cred.

So far I've mostly reviewed black metal and a bit of doom and post-metal. I'm thinking of reviewing some other genres soon like death metal, thrash and whatever interesting stuff I can find.

I usually don't have much time to write English reviews for metal-archives but I will review French and Middle Eastern bands, all genres except bedroom projects, no MP3s or CD-Rs.

For the rest of the world I am currently interested in reviewing the following genres (in English):
- Sludge metal (new-school and old-school) means: old-school sludge, sludge/doom, sludge/stoner, atmospheric sludge (post-rock/post-hardcore/experimental), progressive sludge (post-rock/post-hardcore/experimental).
- Half-thrash, post-thrash and groove metal.
- Middle Eastern/oriental folk metal (combined with any metal genre).
- Technical, experimental death metal and death/grind.

My favorite metal genres are 80's thrash and 90's death metal. I can write detailed reviews for those but in the other hand you can easily get a 0% so best avoid those genres.

I suppose I could mention myself here. I haven't been all that reliable in the past but life has finally quit being mental so I've been reviewing more often.

MOST INSIGHTFUL
Death metal (old school, death/thrash, technical and/or brutal)
Thrash (traditional, crossover, brutal)
Power metal (early speed metal style especially, also symphony)

DOES OKAY WITH
Black/thrash (Hell's Headbangers and Nuclear War Now fodder)
Traditional (USPM, heavy metal/hard rock)
Ambient
Metalcore/deathcore

ISN'T SUPER KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT
Black metal (any style really, extremely raw bedroom stuff especially)
Doom metal (I prefer traditional but could probably wrote more about funeral)
Anything heavily progressive (From Dream Theater to Opeth, not my thing)
Folk metal (the Ensiferum style power blend I'm okay with though)
Slam death (basically anything Sevared records puts out)
Grind (old school, porno, gore, etc. I like it, but suck at reviewing it)

I'll listen to basically anything. But if you want your review to be most helpful, stick with the first two categories.

Inconsistent reviewer, but sometimes highly motivated. Will review anything, but the following genres are my preferences:

- Death metal, especially mid-90s and newer
- Black metal, viking metal
- Death/doom, funeral doom, gothic doom
- Melodic death metal
- Neofolk, ambient, dark ambient
- Post-hardcore influenced metal, ie. "post-metal"
- NWOBHM and its ilk, the faster and more technical the better
- Bands that were once metal but are no longer so
- Unusually overrated albums that are indisputably shyte

Will review but not preferably:
- Power metal
- Speed metal
- Thrash metal, crossover, groove metal
- Crust ands its kind
- Proto death and black metal, death/thrash
- Trad heavy metal, trad doom
- Stoner metal
- Folk metal
- Slam death, deathgrind

I don't pay particular attention to the kind of music I review, but most of it ends up being black metal, mostly from France, Greece or Germany.

I mostly review:

Power/Prog metal

But I will occasionally also review:

Post subject:  Re: Reviewer & genre preferences

I don't normally like doing reviews on demand. But if it means not receiving shit I'm not remotely interested in:

Will review:
-black metal (particularly "Atmospheric" (it's a very ambiguous term) black metal; I'd prefer not putting up with your super raw Ildjarn clone though)

Will sometimes review:
-Drone doom metal
-Death metal (please no tech death)

Does not want to review (at least on demand):
-Progressive metal (unpredictable quality, but often very shitty music)
-Power metal (again, unpredictable, though easier to stomach than prog metal for the most part)
-"vanilla" doom metal (again, ambiguous; in particular I don't really want to be bogged down with nine 40 Watt Suns, Pallbearers, and the like; I'd prefer to keep it drone or funeral doom)
-Grindcore (no experience reviewing)

Post subject:  Re: Reviewer & genre preferences

If the main lead singer has a dick, I'm not going to review it.

For reviewing, mostly I deal with the typical gothic, symphonic & power genres with chick singers, but I'm not averse to reviewing thrash or more extreme stuff as long as the singer still sounds female like Cadaveria or that broad from Sacrilege (UK). If she's a Ross Dolan impersonator, then as much as I'll respect her gift, I probably won't write about it.

It's not about personal taste, only reviewing preferences.

Post subject:  Re: Reviewer & genre preferences

Will review:
Extreme metal (death, black, thrash, their various subgenres and spin offs like folk, viking, blackened death, deathrash, brutal death, etc.)
Traditional metal
Doom metal and its various subgenres and spin offs
Gothic and symphonic metal (the two more often than not seem to go hand in hand I've found)
Progressive metal
Female fronted bands
Proto-doom and retro metal like Ghost, The Devil's Blood, Heritage-era Opeth, etc.

There's really nothing I won't review since I listen to just about everything, but what I won't review as often include:
Power metal (not a big fan)
Metalcore (I like a few bands, but most bands sound the same and are really boring)
Deathcore (see above, only replace "really boring" with "suck terribly")
Glam metal (once again, a lot of it is very samey and I don't really think that many are on this site, to be honest)
Groove metal (I love Pantera to death, as I do Exhorder despite not really being groove and White Zombie, but that's really it when it comes to me and groove)
Grindcore (don't listen to at all)

Post subject:  Re: Reviewer & genre preferences

For me it's kinda weird, I don't have many reviews in general but I usually just write a review when I feel like I know what to say about it. It would usually be black metal, but it varies. Never really power metal or thrash though.

Okay, now that I'm a little more established as a reviewer let's try this again.

Think I'll do the same

Favourite
Doom, stoner, funeral, death/doom
Atmospheric black metal, war metal
Sludge, including Neurisis stuff
OSDM and weird death metal (Antediluvian, Flourishing ect)
Anything crust or hardcore (punk) flavoured
Anything really left field or psychedelic

Somewhat interested in reviewing
Death metal (including tech)
Brutal death/slam/deathcore
Typical black metal
Grindcore
Drone
USPM/Speed/Trad
Thrash's less silly varieties
Industrial

Not so much interested in
Euro/flower power metal
Anything gothic tinged that isn't death/doom or Type O Negative
Party Thrash
Groove
Happy folk metal stuff
Avant-garde
Metalcore
Super proggy stuff

Post subject:  Re: Reviewer & genre preferences

I'm just getting restarted, but let's do this:

Very much interested:
Progressive/avant-garde of all sorts (even if it's not properly metal)
Doom of the more epic/dramatic kind (we're talking more in the Paradise Lost or My Dying Bride vein, not drone etc.)
Heavier/darker gothic stuff (along the lines of again Paradise Lost, Moonspell etc.)
Anything heavily atmospheric that's not full-on black metal or drone

Interested:
Thrash
Death/doom
Slower death metal
Classic heavy
Power metal
Avant-garde/experimental/progressive/symphonic/whatever black metal

Might give a shot:
Metalcore
Groove
Lighter/poppier gothic
Classic death metal
Folk

Totally not my cup of tea:
Black metal other than the above exceptions
Brutal death metal
Grindcore
Deathcore
Drone
