Quite possibly one of the least recommended ways to inaugurate your career as a MA reviewer :nods:

Other than knowing this person thinks the album is overhyped and overrated (do a shot every time words like those come up) and superficial things like it's not the heaviest death metal album ever released (didn't know that it was trying to be), I really have no idea what this person's complaints are.

GEP Guns review fucking sucks man. None of his claims surmount to anything as there’s no substance to his issues and can simply be summarized as “I didn’t care for it, therefore it isn’t as good as people say”. I’m with Swine, I have no clue what really the “issue” he has with the record for such a low score. You can do better GEP.

Imagine listening to Left Hand Path all the way through and sincerely believing that it only has its heaviness going for it.

Also, if you hafta point out how people will think you're an edgy contrarian in your closing lines, then you are, indeed, an edgy contrarian.

I didn't think LHP's selling point was that it was the heaviest album around. I mean, I could be wrong, I wasn't around then. But I don't remember anyone making that claim...I'd love to read a negative review of a timeless classic that was articulate and well-written, with interesting points and criticism. So far, I have not.

The reviewer makes some weird / general statements, but in general, he's hardly saying much.

Quick missive for barde aux yeux verts: having enjoyed your Bestial Invasion birthday gift review, took it upon myself to leisurely spin said Ukrainian gem...and am duly entrapped by its mystically thrashing, ever bojangling, Iron Maidenesque form.

It really is wonderful and deserving of the post Peace Rust classic tag.

Shout out to Gasmask with the review for Toxiks new record. I’ve been really loving what I’ve heard this morning from it and you’ve summarized my feelings of “Dis Morta” really well.

Glad to hear that you liked them. I've relistened that album at least 40 times by now and I still didn't get tired of it.

It's a really cool album, and honestly I had my doubts that it would be much good. Toxik aren't exactly my vibe most of the time but I can see how skilful and creative they've been across the whole thing. Very pleased to say the band shared my review on their Facebook too :)

Can you hear me fervently clapping, upon reading Xyrth's perfecto-mondo Vengeance Scream review? Duly nailed it on all (entry) points!
I say we scrap all of its previous write-ups, leaving only his as definitive, final answer.

Here’s 3000 reviews, all of which are positive, and none of them are worth reading because they say nothing, just a vague word salad. I’m guessing he gets free promos in exchange for liking everything he hears…for free. Waste of space IMO, like he’s ever posted an honest thought.

I like how write and I have no problem with vote

Bm modern and underground is stellar in last decade this is the true.

I prefer that to the stupid and contro reviews
And he’s one of few that cover underground bm or band not knowed

Anyway my compliments to that guy

Really loved hells unicorn's latest review for the newest Amon Amarth album. I'll try and get a review out of this album sometime this month, and when I do, it'll sure be a positive one!

I've never liked when a writer's output consists of only positive reviews either, but most of all, every review by him I've read so far feels too cookie-cutter - same structure, no mention of specific songs, etc. Thinking back on it, I'd say he's more like early Edmund Sackbauer 2.0 lol. All I know is that I've chosen the worst moment possible to return writing, my reviews were obliterated from the home page within a couple of hours

I'd say also nice Waste review by h_u - just yesterday I was surprised to see still zero reviews for their latest. Decidedly better than Slime and Punishment imo, I dig the way they're heading. And I hope to hear more songs with Barney Greenway in the future :-D

Is it just me or the latest Savage Master falls hella flat, whilst all online reviews seem to praise it 'till kingdome come, even going as far as calling it a step up from With Whips And Chains - their ultimate pinnacle, a return to form now lacking and causing traditionalist distress. What the heck is going on? It's time for an intervention. (Calling my good pal twist to the rescue, here, as my reviewer's voice is on the wane.)

ps For Those Who Waffle At Night rates no higher than 75%, even 70% to be honest.

Granted, I dig the title track, as it sounds like an improved version of JP's Heading Down The Autoroute, as well as cut from same killer cloth as said 2015 debut. After that, it's all downhill. Not quite phoned-in, but rather, uninspired and tepid. Myth, Magic and Steel trump this by a gong shot.

I'm gonna see if I can tackle it in the next day or so. I like it on first impression but it's not grabbing me as much as their last couple. Getting to open for them with Lavaborne last year was pretty rad though, definitely an excellent live band!

I'm also gonna have to figure out what I could really say about it, I've gotten really tired of "yep, this sure does exist" reviews for bands that hardly ever change. It's why I've been writing more roundups for albums, but I think those two paragraph blurbs would be a little too short to post here.

That's pretty cool you opened for them! What you describe is a good reason I'm less inclined to write anything up these days, and I'm not really in the mood to slam stuff in a lesser rated way. I think going back to the classics works fine though, in terms of breaking out of self-imposed molds.

As much as I'd like to reach 1000 reviews some day, would rather quit while I'm ahead, and not be remembered or known for a massive, late string of flaky, so-so reviews. I'd have to write 6 a month from now on to make it so (within projected 10 year goal), but feel totally out of steam at the moment.

There's a good new Toxik review by bayern…

https://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/ ... yern/81007

…that's slightly marred by some grammar hiccups and typos. This is not intended as a complaint but as a suggestion for improvement:

Second paragraph:
"If the previous collection bravely tried to explore a few untrodden by the band trajectories" => "… tried to explore a few trajectories untrodden by the band".

Fourth paragraph:
"a cool dramatic dystopian twister which more ambitious layout is more deftly revealed later on " => I don't even know what this is supposed to mean; it's either "… with a more ambitious layout…" or "… the more ambitious layout of which…".

Fifth paragraph:
"The band old fans should be happy all over as again this outing tries to extract the essence from the first two albums by also serving the boosted modern production to probably attract new audience." => "The band's […] a new audience." Plus: I don't know what the "by also serving the" part is supposed to mean. Is it "but it also serves the/a"?

Last paragraph:
"will I take…" => "Will I take…"
"a rampant guitar hero whose omnipresence should calm humanity down. Will he promise it salvation with his next saga?" => E.g. "Will he promise us salvation" would be better; "it" is too abstract. After all, "humanity" means "us", not some species distinct from us.
