Bloodstone is being very good once again:

http://www.metal-archives.com/review.php?id=103706#7600

Maybe it's just a compatibility issue, but I think his reviews turn very easily from simple letters on the screen into thoughts, ideas and understanding of the overall atmosphere of the albums he reviews. In other words, his works are simultaneously easy to read and very vivid.

Thanks. I did put a lot of work into making that one easy to read, so it's nice that you commented on that. :) Actually, writing down all the musical description, points to make etc doesn't take very long for me at all, because I usually know exactly what to write beforehand and how I'm going to argue for my cause - it's making it look good and easily digestible for other people that takes a lot of time for me, and this review I got particularly anal about.

EDIT: by the way, this is my first review entirely devoid of mentions of individual songs. I made one minor reference to a Pagan's Mind song, but not to describe an individual track on there or anything.

Wow, that one from Bloodstone sure is good. Extremely in depth and a great source of information.

Your reviews are very good Bloodstone, I look forward to them (since we tend to have very similar tastes). :)

Glad you liked it. I can't stand disingenuous music.

EDIT: Although I did take more than a pinch of Nightgaunt's style on this one. :P

I didn't really like that review. The point made some sense, but the expression was poor, disorganized, and generally fell flat. Another bad attempt at the "essay-review," somewhat in the vein of an even less competent InstinctKill. A noble attempt, I suppose, but I probably would have rejected it.

Differences of opinion. Not a big deal. The chip in every mod's neck is supposed to eliminate these, but at times of high solar wind or near an equinox they sometimes malfunction. The v2.0 should fix it.

I resubmitted it with three additional paragraphs of musical description.

I like that review for an album that really was in need of one. Unfortunately, he capitalises genres, something I start to dislike, too.

The_Grand_Destructor seems like the new kid in town. If his profile is honest about his age, he is remarkably good.

My review for "Supervillain Outcast" has been called "the best Dødheimsgard review on Metal Archives" by none other than Vicotnik himself. :D

I have to agree that it's pretty awesome. I love the 'rabbit raping a typewriter' analogy in particular. XD

I didn't. I learned almost nothing about the music. It was another essay with lots of attempted witty passages, which would probably work in a creative writing class, but here I wanna learn about the actual album at hand. Instead of clear descriptions of the music, we are "treated" to theory on why kids in high school shouldn't make music, we spend a while exploring the many faces of the word "droning", and last but not least plenty of insults beefed up in an attempt to sound intelligent. It's one of those "clever" reviews without any real substance.

The problem is that there is nothing to learn about the music. You can't thoroughly review something that's not there.

80% (and that's a generous number) of your review could have been omitted and it would be equally informative of what we are to expect here. Just about the only thing you describe are the drums. Nothing about pace, signature, or riffs. Ok you got the 3-power chord progressions, but what do those riffs sound like? "dillettantic"? And what of the vocals? All I have picked up on the vocals is that they sound worse than the kids who used to make fun of you in high school by mimicking black metal vocals. I don't give a shit what anyone says, it is beyond obvious that this review capitalized on the opportunity of scorning a novice project while offering the author a chance to impress misguided readers with 1337 "manipulation of language."

Things often tend towards a sort of spotty equillibrium. Cosseting meets with castigation, for example.

It's more in the nature of who's doing each: a sort-of-friend attacking another sort-of-friend for a negative review of my music. It's like some sort of ice cream social, only with better vocabulary and fewer sprinkles.

yeah. Isn't Vikotnik out of the band now? Figures he wouldn't be involved in this shit. And, taht is a good and fitting review for such a terrible album, though I only heard the pre-vocal demo (it was more than enough).

God is real, and His name is Cheeses_Priced. Four new reviews up, the Dragonforce one especially kicks so much ass! It's about time someone cut through the bullshit and shouted out the obvious brilliance of Inhuman Rampage!

I usually dig his reviews a lot, but don't see why everyone's so enamoured with this one. I can't decide whether he's just pulling our legs or not. Then again, maybe I just can't be objective because I really despise this band!

That's what I thought at first, seeing as I thought he hated that kind of music. Well whether it was serious or not, I still love the album for pretty much all the reasons he listed.

Thought I'd give some praise to caspian. The guy has a knack for writing concise, informative reviews on a remarkably consistent basis. His new one for Woburn House is a case in point.

That review was probably the first thing Droney ever wrote that I agreed with.

I reviewed it, myself, for Diabolical Conquest... you won't be seeing it here, though, because Kunal insists on exclusivity nowadays.

I enjoyed this one. Reminds me of the classic pre-cleaning reviews for Apocalypse (US).
