I am finishing an EP on songs based on the works of the author Thomas Ligotti.

Anyone knows about him?

Here is the opening track

This is my first album I wrote. Its like a mix between Skeletonwitch, Windir, and some thrash and black metal bands.
At first I was like, I know what I want to side like. But in retrospect I see that I sort of was testing the waters on my niche, but Ive learned toward the black metal elements. Im curious how other people see my Ozark Shaman debut.

This is my full length album that was just released last month, its gotten good feedback so far but I want more neutral criticism of both the production, songwriting, and lyrics/vocal delivery. This is our first album and we recorded most of it ourselves.

songwriting is awesome I like the songs. the vocals are kinda upfront for this. the drums are good but kinda domintate during rolls then disappear again. basically this would benefit from a master overall that might make all the stringed instruments a bit louder and less mush. for this sort of material I think it needs much more definition. if the guitars were up another 3 notches and the bass apropriate. and a overall more kick and slightly tad more snare. snare is about perfect overall. just a cunt hair more. like more mids to cut. but I like the songwriting and it is interesting overall. but after listening a bit I don't know what I listened to till it gets to the "quiet parts" like it's Primordal or Katatonia. it's vast potiential. and when on the first song ever it kicks into overdrive with the kicks it sounds so fucking vastly fake like Oh our drummer can't play this part so we programmed it. maybe he can, maybe he can't but how it sounds in the mix. the kick is a back ground noise till that moment. but ya'll right some good songs. i want to hear this remixed and mastered.

bass is peaking out in the most negative way. like if I feel I have to throw off my headphone for just bass at the begining it's a fucking shame and someone not paying attention. why in the first track when obviously the first song has ended at 3:30 you start up a new totally different track. just split it up. honestly next section is not fucking interesting even in all the dub/techno/club/plunderphontics tags you use. it's just barebones basically "i figured how to make this daw work properly with my programming with VST's" if this is your very first stab into it then i applauded you for doing that. but really this first song is 3 different totally songs. I don't need to go any further cause you don't know how to truly bridge one segment into the other without it sounding like a 90's club mix of a pop song.

Noosefiller has just completed its fourth full length album, and the third from what is safe to assume our true power lineup. Another stylistic change-up, it's more oriented with sludge/doom/post metal so it's pretty massive and heavy with the Neurosis vibes and psychedelic elements.

We are a Houston, TX based band combining black/death/thrash with Mongolian throat singing inspired vocals.

We are looking for feedback for one of our songs. What is the genre of our song? We call it Melodic Blackened Death Metal. What do you think?

Hello all! Here are a pair of songs Ive been working on. Slowly an album is forming, but Id like some feedback on how the process is going so far.

https://soundcloud.com/agga40/ashur-2 This song has a strong Mesopotamian vibe to it

https://soundcloud.com/agga40/blinded-eyes-of-shammash This one is me experimenting with a looser style

New song, that is a mix of Melodic death metal, black metal and a little of post metal like melodies. Lyrics are taken, translated and altered from Slovenian writer and poet Srečko Kosovel from his work "Ekstaza Smrti"

I would really appreciate any feedback about the song. Thanks!

We are a Houston, TX based band combining black/death/thrash with Mongolian throat singing inspired vocals looking for feedback on a new song we have created.

We consider this latest song that we have put together to be a kind of Blackened Deathgrind song as it combines the sounds of Assuck, Repulsion, Necrophobic and Mayhem. Basically the intent of the song was to combine the evil sounding riffs and chord progressions of Mayhem and Necrophobic with the grinding aggression of Assuck and the riffing style of Repulsion. Lyrically, the song is about the horrors of the two world wars and the millions of people who died in them.

Here is the link to it:

I demo'd some riffs last night for an EP I'm writing and I wanted to get some feedback. I just want to know if they sound like a blatant rip-off of something else or another band's signature style.

Sounds like run-of-the mill groove metal/mallcore to me. I can totally imagine this being in a Korn song.

That fuzz though, ugh.

I was actually going for doom/post-metal. Sorry about the tone too, it's DI. How could it be improved?

I posted on your youtube video you said to post on. My newer soundcloud songs are all without vocals(yet), but there are completed songs on my youtube. The reason I am linking the songs without vocals is because I feel like those songs are turning out better than the ones from before. I wanted you to see the difference between the song writing of the new songs and older songs.

Just looking for some feedback on my band's rough EP that we put out a bit ago. I know the production is shit.....it was recorded with a single Shure SM7B in the middle of the room, so some things (like the kicks and low vocals) are not as loud as I'd ideally like them to be. Looking more for critique on songwriting and overall feel.

My new band just released our debut EP last Friday. Gothic death/doom in the vein of bands like Amorphis, Swallow the Sun, Woods of Ypres, and Draconian. Any input or thoughts is most appreciated.

I really liked that :) not a fan of the genre, but this somehow managed to walk the narrow path of holding my attention without annoying me. I like the folkish/world music elements. most impressively, it's very well recorded. mind if I ask about your setup? basic stuff, like mic and daw, not the entire studio :D

I'm checking your other work, already got through destitute of vision, and two tracks in on celestial bleakness. thanks :)

ps. please use a smaller image in the future for this forum... :D

I heard that, too... I still think the mix could be better, though it might be a matter of perspective. I liked it overall, the songs are different enough but the release feels cohesive. I did not expect the super high vocals in the Reason chorus :D start a King Diamond tribute band? :) still think the widdly solos in Vanished are insane, esp the first. loved the girl's vocals in Shutter, she's not your average "let's get someone's sister/gf to do a bit", has a nice timbre. the riff that comes right after her "solo" bit seems a bit disjointed, but might grow on me. I particularly liked how you reprise the Vanished chorus at the end of the EP, and teasing it at the end of Down the Road. Vanished is the potential hit single, and I'd push it a bit (more) if I were you...

I'm not sure if the tree shrine with the NSPH number is "art" or "life", if it's the latter I'm real sorry :(

thanks for giving the EP for free, would have loved to pay you but presently unable as I'm flat broke :/ hope you get your $666 and break even though :)

Thanks!

I plug my guitar direct to my Presonus Audiobox. I rely most of the time on plugins/samples for most non-guitar sounds. But recently I have been using less samples and record with an Audio Technica AT2020 condenser mic. My DAW is Reaper.

This doesn't sound so bad, it kinda suits the style.
About the overall feel, I'd say if the aim was for the music to be totally bleak and crushing, you have succeeded. If it was to make the most original music in the world, then no!
It's well executed, the production, albeit being extremely lo-fi, suits the material very well (buried vocals and all), but the music is absolutely derivative. The latter, though, seems not to be a problem for many metal bands who try to fit into well established niches; I understand it is actually desirable for some people in this realm, therefore I wouldn't say it's necessarily negative.
Instinctively, I'd compare it to Paradise Lost's Lost Paradise and to the atmosphere of Hellhammer with much more complexity and proficiency but none of the punk-rock attitude.

My latest effort.
https://prigioneeterna.bandcamp.com/album/time-to-go
It's a mix of extreme metal with hints of hardcore and noise. Some orchestral parts and weird arrangements.
I would describe it as sloppily recorded and clumsily produced, but at least sincere and original and some interesting ideas here and there.

Looking for feedback on my first ever "published" song - full solo project (except for cover), which sort of makes it undergroud I guess? haha.
I know it has a lot of rough moments, but trust me when I tell you, I made sure to put a lot of passion and personal experience in this song. Please review it before I post it on more online resources. And I wonder what to do with the fact that there's three more bands with the same name

Whoa, this is precisely the kind of weird I like. Super catchy, congratulations!
Main critique is that it feels too long, perhaps if there was some kind of variation (melody/tone/phrasing/whatever) in the playing it'd be easier to swallow.
Drum sound could be better, mainly the snare.

Not much you can do with the name other than changing it unless you wanna go extra-officially by something like Spire (rus).

Yeah, originally I wrote it with way more variation, including things that were impossible to play, I practiced it for a long time, and during recording got in a proper mood and just recorded all the chorus parts as the same one, in one take. Lesson learned - to be more diligent next time.
As for the drum sound, I guess, I should probably find something more consistent, because I found one snare sample that I liked and mixed it into the drumming plugin, meanwhile toms and bass drum have a softer sound. I guess I just like the more aggresive snare-y sound for the snare, although right now I'm playing real drums and I don't like this sound as much, always feel the need to muffle everything. I'm hoping that I'll be able to use real drums in my next song (and hopefully re-record this one in the future), but drums seem to be the most expensive instrument I've ever purhchased, including all the set-up time and proper recording techniques. I'm thinking of unilizing my cheap web mics alogside one condenser mic, wonder how it'll turn out!
