Only listened to the first song.

Not a huge fan of the style, but I liked the song overall and I can see a lot of people that are into stoner rock liking this. Don't worry, recording and mixing isn't easy, you did a good job in keeping everything balanced enough to enjoy the whole stuff. I would recommend to turn down the vocals a bit and using a d-esser or some kind of mild compression in it. I don't know if the hi hat/cymbals sound that way on purpose (Most of the time sounds like you only recorded part of the release on each hit) but it distracted me throughout the song.

The cymbals aren't suppose to sound like that, that was a fuck up on my part... I had some setting on when recording that I didn't mean to have on and we weren't able to get the drummer to rerecord all the tracks that it was like that on so I had to work with what I had (also why the drums are pretty low in most of the mixes). The rest of the songs are a bit more upbeat (and shorter) than Golmec if you get a chance to listen to any of them... that song is pretty much as far as we go in the doomy/stoner spectrum.

Thanks for listening.

I tweaked done of the drum programming and production issues on my melodic post/doom song and am curious to get some feedback on this version: https://soundcloud.com/kyle-kristian/me ... demo-mix-2

I finished recording a rough sloppy demo of a Melodic Death Metal song I've been working on for a while. It definitely needs re-recorded, but here it is: https://soundcloud.com/gates-of-martyr/ ... strumental

Re-recorded a demo version of an old song I did and added vocals for the chorus. The improvements from the old version include: a solo, rewritten entirely in C minor (No chromaticism! Woo!) and I guess bass. I need to add actual drums to it soon tho

Listented to both, I liked a lot more the one on youtube haha, it was a fun listen, the other one I guess it was too drony for me, I'm not much into drone stuff.

Sounds good man! I was expecting vocals though haha, This will sound really good with proper production values. Keep it up!

So, i finished a pre pro for one of my "serious" songs, I'm still strugggling with the toms, but well, I'm fairly happy with what I've achieved so far. I'll be adding vocals in the next days If I have the chance. I'll like to call it post/black/death metal but I guess there's a bit (or a bit too much) core in there haha.

https://soundcloud.com/lrhtmetalhead/pre-pro

Thoughts?

Here's an example of my vocals, not terrible but not great they just kinda exist I guess lmao: https://soundcloud.com/gates-of-martyr/harsh-vocal-test

Also, that song you posted is awesome! I'm really digging the riffs. My only gripe is with the drums, especially the kick. It just sounds... Idk unnatural I guess lol. Other than that I'd say it's pretty great :D
You could try using Garageband (mac app) for the drums, they work exceptionally well and all you need to do is make a .midi of your drum track. You can play around with each individual sound (toms/kicks/hi-hats/cymbals etc)

Yes! I already heard you vocals man that's Why i said I was waiting for them haha they remind me a bit to Symbyosis, and I love Symbyosis.

Also, thanks for the feedback! Really glad you enjoyed the song man! And yeah I'm still struggling with the mix, drums mostly haha. I used a combination of Ezdrummer and a free vst called Mt Power Drum and I'm fairly happy with it, still have to get it in the sweet spot.

Idk if you've heard Garageband drums before or not or if you have a Mac, but here's what they sound like: https://soundcloud.com/gates-of-martyr/ ... rumentalaf

If you like them, you can send me a midi track of your drums and I can make the individual (separate kicks/toms/hi-hats) drum tracks in Garageband for you want :D

Thanks for the offer man! Really appreciate it, but i have to decline, I want to get the most out of the things I have haha kinda like a self put challenge. I do like Garageband drums, but as i said I'm fairly happy with my actual set and I want to make it sound as good as i can haha, thanks again though.

I think you have a good idea of what the song should sound like in your head, and you've spent some considerable time thinking about your phrasing and how the structure/drum patterns change. The only improvements you really need are producing better, which will come with time, and if I were you I'd up the tempo, or work on playing some parts a little faster.

Here's a single my band just finished:

Had to shut down my recording equipment a little over a year ago so we could sell our house and move to a new city. Just finally got everything back up and running a few weeks ago. I think this track is ready for vocals, but wanted to have it dialed in before I added one more thing to the mix.

Feedback appreciated:

Open Tomb - Instant Eternity

Vocally, I'm probably going to have a heavy dose of death metal, with the hardcore/thrash roots shining through here and there...

I re-recorded an old song of mine and rewrote it to be entirely in C minor (it also has a solo and a 3rd chorus!) I really like the way the solo drops into the chorus again, to me it sounds really heavy, what do you guys think? Here's a recording with the chorus vocals: https://soundcloud.com/gates-of-martyr/ ... ocalssofar

I'm reviving an idea I had a long time ago for some Mayan themed progressive black metal/folk, probably some experimental stuff. After starting work today I came out with this instrumental demo. I personally really love it, and am very pleased and stoked to keep going.

feedback would be tight :) https://soundcloud.com/lord-salad/ququm ... itled-demo

I like it, the production fits perfectly with the style and the song overall is really entertaining. The spoken words at 2:43 intrigues me haha.

I do like the solo before the chorus, I wouldn't call it heavy atm, but it has potential to be pretty tight with a nice and punchy low end in the guitars.

It definitely has the elements to be atmospheric black metal, but I don't think is quite there yet. It needs to be a bit more inmersive imo, try using more arpeggiated open chords and some voicings over the tremolo picking! Tremolo picking with some synths in the background aren't going to create an atmosphere on their own. But you have a solid idea, keep working!

The intro is pretty interesting and I like the way it builds up until the song starts off, then it's definitely kinda avant-garde-ish haha, real fun there mate, I like it. I would say watch out when you are limiting or heavily compressing (If you are doing so, bc the dynamic range seems to be really saturated) This kind of music needs lots of dynamics!

I think this is good! It's not overly raw and you can appreciate every element. I like the drum production, really solid.

As soon as I find the time to do so, and a good guitar tone, I'll re-record it and try my best at mixing. No clue how to do that with my limited setup but it'll be better than how it is now lol. I've also bought strings for an 8 string guitar and put the 6 thickest strings on my guitar, and it tunes to C standard perfectly. So hopefully, the tone will be a lot thicker and heavier while also staying in tune better. I'm also planning on layering guitar tracks, I just need to figure out how.

Don't worry man I know how's that haha. Out of curiousity, you record DI or do you mic an amp?

Thanks for listening ^^

I actually just released the debut album right here https://ququmatz.bandcamp.com/releases

I get what you're saying and while I'm definitely happy with the content, the quality could use work for sure. Unfortunately I'm very impatient and wanted to unleash this as soon as I finished ha. I really like it still. It's influenced in equal parts by Krallice, King Crimson, and all sorts of reptilian creator gods. Feel free to check it, ended up having a lot more prog rock then I envisioned initially.

I think the vocal mixing needs the most work personally.

Edit: anyone check it if youd like. I'm really excited about it, and would love love to hear all your opinions both positive and negative. Since it's the most metal thing I've done, I'm especially interested in hearing some feedback from over here

Haha I know that feeling very well. I was so impatient that as soon as I thought a song was finished I recorded, edited de midi/audio, "mixed" and "mastered" all in one night, obviously the result was terrible, but I didn't noticed until the next day where I woke up with fresh ears. What I'm trying to say is that you do really need to create the habit of doing things step by step, specially when mixing because your ears will get tired and will hear frequencies diferently that when they are not fatigued, something that might sound great after a long night mixing just might sound atrocius the next day, It happened to me really often haha.

I'm halfway throughout your bandcamp and yes, even though the production could use some work, I don't think it's terrible by any means. In fact I do enjoy it and think you did a great job, I feel the style you play merges very well with the sound quality (except for the heavy limiting, and I think it's clipping when the instruments go full on). Compositionally it's pretty exciting and keeps you interested most of the time, some parts might feel like are going nowhere but, hey, a second listen could change my opinion.

Hmm I see. Have you tried to get only a clean signal into your DAW and reamping it? I feel like you could get a lot better results with amp sims.

are there any good free amp sims you would recommend? I've never really done it before so I'm clueless as to what works and what doesn't

also, I've been working on a song inspired by the In Flames album Clayman. My songwriting process involves writing riffs on tuxguitar rather than my actual guitar itself, structuring it into a song, then learning it on the guitar. This is what I have so far for the song: https://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/gates-o ... -s424412t3

The whole idea of this song was to sound like Clayman-era In Flames. I would specifically like criticism on the verse riff, as in my opinion that's the best riff I've ever written compared to my other ones.

There are tons of amp sims but I use Lepou, TSE and Ignite amps. This video is very ilustrative and easy to grasp:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdo7mXOih5Y

Also, if you search for amp sims in the forum there are plenty of people that know what they're talking about, like MawBTS, Det_Morkettall and mattp.

I'm sorry, I'm not kvlt enought for this. It sounds pretty bad to me, all that distortion doesn't let me appreciate a single thing. Love the cover arts though.

I have been working on another rough concept track for my new black metal solo project, incorporating much of the feedback I have received for the first (which is still being worked on).

All constructive feedback is appreciated.

Oh! I like this one better! It definitely feels more expansive and inmersive than the previous one you posted. You have a really solid base, I have the feel that If you use some leads here and there it will sound more memorable, but that's just me.

Man, you can really create old In Flames inspired stuff, I love it. There are many catchy riffs here.

Thank you! I've always wanted to accomplish the old (well, at least Clayman-old) In Flames sound! If I had to change one thing in the song, what would it be?

Hey guys, we just released our first demo and we're looking for some feedback for both the songwriting and recording. We recorded everything in my basement and as far as recording goes was basically our first go at it so anything you can send our way would be much appreciated !

We play black metal and you can find us here : https://themausoleum.bandcamp.com/releases

New Death Metal project I started last month. Got the interest of a label in Spain who's releasing it to 500 copies on CD next year. Let me know what you think. These are very raw tracks, not properly mixed yet. Originally was going to do a promo tape and use these specific tracks, but I don't really have the funds to spare at the moment.

Hey fellas,
I'm doing some sort of thrash/doom/thingo project on my own. The aim is to make some kickass riffs and try to have a lot of cool tempo changes in each song. This is a pretty rough old demo but it gives you a vague idea of what I'm going for. Let me know what you think- I haven't really put much of my metal out there before so I have no idea if it's cool or just painfully generic hahaha

Sorry about that, I think I accidentally deleted that version after I tweaked it a bit.

Here's a new link (and a bonus one):

So, i finished a pre pro for one of my "serious" songs, I'm still strugggling with the toms, but well, I'm fairly happy with what I've achieved so far. I'll be adding vocals in the next days If I have the chance. I'll like to call it post/black/death metal but I guess there's a bit (or a bit too much) core in there haha.

Thoughts?

Dig how atmospheric and progressive it is, while remaining heavy and ripping. Got more?
