I've got 12:09 completed myself. Recording this one is going to be fun!

I wasn't thinking Exactly 20mins, but a 20minute minimum. Like that is the set goal, if you go over it, then it's fine. But you have to reach that 20 minutes.

Yeah that'd be a bit of a bummer, you construt this 20 minute opus but have to cut your last riff off because you ran out of time.

I literally didn't know you posted something till you wondered if we knew you were joking.

yea I can tell that was a joke. That's how dismissive I was of the comment since it wasn't exactly important.

This contest's fun. You just don't have the time to overthink anything.

If Buckethead can record and release a 30 minute album each day (!?) for 30 days, this should be easy.

Buckethead is also insane. But that's quite neat. i'd like to do something similar but damn. I'd have to quit work and life largely to get it all done.

I'm only about 3 minutes in, and so far it's some clean folksy riffing. I have a shit ton of ideas for heavies, but making them work together is a challenge.

I have a vast amount of riffs. a couple of ideas on arrangement but I probably won't start on this till Nov. There's just too much going on with me on all fronts.

I got fired from one of my jobs, so I finally have some free time. Actually, starting the composing process without access to any instruments helped, because I could plan it's structure beforehand. And that I will compose it using an acoustic guitar, won't use any synths and will sing it in Finnish.

Yes, I heard you are looking to increase daily album production from 4 to 7. :D

Just started heavy guitars. I'm gonna see how well my system handles Bias FX in a full mix. At first, I wasn't sure about some of my material, but it's starting to fall together really nicely. Listening to it again, it's not really folksy like I said it was.

My track clocks in at 20:38. Time to clean up all the drums, add the extra instruments and then start recording this beast. \m/(>_<)\m/

Cool to see people making progress! I finished the bare bones guitar for my song and it lasts 19:52 (final version will be 20 mins). Still have to write drums/lyrics and practise, and will start recording some time in November. Also doing a separate collab with CorpseFister on synths, should it be called Nostril Fister?

The Buckethead thirty 30-minute albums in 30 days is quite neat indeed. Is it improvised? That way you could spend 30 minutes recording each instrument and have it all recorded in a couple hours or so. Still would take a lot of commitment to do it every day.

I actually just finished up my rhythm guitars. Sitting with my drums, bass, and rhythm guitars at this point. The hand felt good and seemed to be a good day for recording, so I got as much in as I could. Lead guitars will be a different story.

Stuck at 9 minutes. Though, just now, I have a lyrical concept already. This should really help during the rest of the writing process, so I have some context for the instruments to follow.

I had the same situation and what worked for me was just forgetting about it for a few days. I actually just finished recording all the guitar parts and have a rough guitar/bass/drum mix. Now comes the fun part..... finding the right string/choir patches to go along with this beast!

Damn you all are making beast with getting shit done. I've been so busy with work. but I'm at home now having a little vodka. I think I'll pull out my fiddle and see if I can piece together some of the ideas from the other day into something I can more easily work on quickly next week. it's like all of a sudden everyone wants me to do work around their house for high dollar pay and everyone wants cabs.

When he was making one every 3-4 days they sounded pre-written. Now that he's making one every day they're mostly improvised ambient synthesiser stuff. I don't know how much longer he'll continue: it's an impressive musical stunt but it's producing very rushed-sounding music at this point.

Make a 20 minute avant-garde ambient recording of you building cabs.

Had a moment of inspiration and it chugged out a bunch of sweet riffs. Recording this monster is taking longer - lots of instruments and parts to consider. It'll probably take all of November to get an acceptable mix/master. The In-Laws are on their way to visit for a few days, so that'll be sure to halt progress.

Yea Nov is going to be a beast as well the first week is the huge artfest I do, so that weekend and the week leading up to it is totally shot. and then after that every weekend is pretty much ren faires and going to see Blind Guardian in Atlanta. I'll have to do it during the week one day after that first weekend I think.

I did get some more stuff done last night but started writing some stuff sounding like Fukpig which I'll use for something else

Why not!? Jackyl used chainsaws as a melodic instrument in their song Lumberjack!

Yea and that song was not good. I can dig on some found noises recordings but I'm not about it. And hell like I said... this is a metal challenge to boot

I've recorded 15 minutes of the song, and I think I know what to do with one of the remaining minutes. So there's 4 minutes left to write.

I keep laying down tracks and then suddenly having an even better idea for that riff/section, provoking a crisis on whether to re-do a ton of stuff or just let it slide.

JUST........RE-DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

(This is why I write my entire song in MIDI only first... xD)

I normally just write everything on guitar, and practice it a bit before recording, if I have any ideas I add them in or make note that it'd be for the 2nd guitar's parts.

Recorded a full take of drums tonight. It wasn't perfect but I'm hoping it'll be ok to keep because practising a 20 minute song is kind of time consuming and sweaty. :)

Then why 'hope' to get the song right even when you know it's not the best take? Keep practicing and enjoy the sweat, man! Bang 'da 'drumz! Looking forward to your submission!

Heh, whatever, if you guys got the time. I've got kids and responsibilities to get to. I'll be punching in anything I need to - especially with a hand that only has 40% muscle movement.

Bunch of purists on this forum. xD
