We started with 16, 2 gave warning of dropping, so 14 to complete, 9 actually turned in. I think that's more than I fully expected to get in so I'm quite thrilled with the results.

And to sweeten the post some (or really sour it) I'll toss some albums off Speed Ritual to 2 participants that manage to complete their songs. I'll do the same as clogged and throw names in a hat and just pull out two. I'll do this later tonight or tmwr and post the results and video.

Thank you all for participating and making this a great success, I'll be uploading my reviews later this week cause I'm tired and sick so I'm actually going to sleep soon.

Edit: correction 2 more songs turned in

Nice work boyos! 20 minutes is definitely a challenge so I think 7 is a pretty good result. I'll download and listen tomorrow.

Holy shit Arkhane! Okay so I'm actually gonna write full reviews at some point and not just post one quick response to every track as I listen to them, but goddamn. You wrote and performed the hell out of this, it builds tension and then releases at all the right times. Outstanding!

PS- that's not to say the other tracks aren't good or anything, I just haven't listened to them yet.

Listening to about 5-6 minutes of each so I can somewhat get the "flavour" of each composition.

Arkhane's sounds great. dat dere mixing.
Shaolin's is pure noise and anarchy, but very dense and textured.
Mourning Pyre's is suitably wintery sounding, but I wish it was rougher and rawer. Though maybe a very clean sound was what he was going for.

I'm all about clean production and being able to hear everything in a mix. I know it's not very tr00 kvlt, but I try to find a line between "too processed" and "tin roof." I understand that it's a huge turn off for most people so it's not a big deal xD

I may have to download tomorrow when I can get a better connection. The mix on mine was really nothing special. Bias desktop is awesome. :)

I think I saw SLK's Flittering song on YouTube. From what I can tell through your camera mic, Mr. Lamb, your song sounded beast as hell. I seriously cannot wait to hear everyone else's submission.

Yea I uploaded the raw version on there where I'm drumming to it, it also doesn't have the intro. Just wanted to do a video of me doing a majority blasting 20min song.

Like Maw I think I would have enjoyed a bit more atmosphere to the production... not raw but maybe a bit more fuzz and a touch of that washed out reverby sound. Not a big deal, just a preference that might have suited the song. That said, great mood on your song, some nicely evocative stuff in your riffing. I really enjoyed some of the piano work too.

Full reviews will be forthcoming but given the song lengths I'll probably take some time and a few listens. I'll keep posting some initial impressions in the meantime.

Thanks for the comments! I think the 80's metal influence is pretty evident during some points of my track, haha.

Download keeps failing...

Edit: the Google document page won't load. I'll keep trying throughout the day, though, to see if it's just internet traffic jam or something.

My track on soundcloud.
https://soundcloud.com/awerewa-1/optics

I have 8 of the tracks downloaded right now, totaling in at two hours and fifty minutes. I guess it makes sense that it's not exactly easy to download something like that.

It should be in the dropbox one, there is a second folder that says other songs because originally i was going to just upload them separately to gdrive but people were having issues with that.

I'm not seeing the second folder on the dropbox link or when I download it. But, since claws is on bandcamp I only need señor towel's track.

there is only one thing to be downloaded on dropbox, when you unzip it it'll be a folder with the songs, and inside that folder... another folder with more songs.

Still working on reviews, I'm just taking it a bit slow so I can listen to each track with fresh ears.

How is everyone else coming along?

I wanted to keep it short enough to not be an essay, but detailed enough to give my overall opinion on each submission. All in all, I heard 9 songs, and if anyone who submitted doesn't see their song on here, let me know and I'll fix it. Also, when doing these reviews, I wanted to talk about both positives as well as negatives, to avoid just spouting off about how cool a song was. I gave each song a full listen at least once (no skips or pauses), and a few non-complete listens just to come up with any final opinions.

Flittering - That Which Has Become

SLK, I'm not sure how you can make a song that doesn't have many discernable note changes and still make it sound good, but I'm overall blown away by this one. Fierce as hell, especially those vocals. If I had to complain at all, it would just be the absence of panning on the drums. Everything seems to be coming from the center channel. But it seems you knew what you were doing with the sound you were getting, and you did it well.

MourningPyre - Blizzard

Awesome riffing! It's not too technical, but it's very captivating at times. I feel like this could be another Dan Swano/Edge of Sanity piece. I liked it quite a bit. The gripes I have are small, but present. For one, the VST segments weren't as captivating as the rest of the song, and they dragged on for a while, it seems. They also kinda came out of nowhere, especially towards the end. The heavy sections are where this song truly shined, though. I would listen to that for hours.

Cloggedfister - Cadaverns

This was kinda strange. The aggressive drums under the gloomy synths didn't really mesh well with me. Maybe it's a personal taste thing. Although it did sound pretty cool at times, and it really added a sort of chaos to the dark atmosphere. I don't really have much else to say. It had it's parts.

Nostril Caverns - Vague Evolving Patterns

One word: Bipolar
Ok in all seriousness though, the way the riffs change feeds a lot into it's hectic and ever evolving atmosphere. A lot of the melodies and arpeggios are very captivating, but then it usually shoots over to some math metal stuff. Technically, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Not my preferred style of music, but jesus christ, you have some talent.

Arkhane - The World Beyond

Stunning.... Simply stunning. You win. Limitless blowjobs for you.

MawBDSM - The Dark Eidolon

Really reminds me of a Nightwish meets Devil May Cry soundtrack. It really could have came in powerful if the guitars were just IN TIIIIIME!!! I wanted to jam to this soooo bad, but the out of time guitars killed it for me. Plus, the whole song kinda becomes white noise after about 8 minutes, with all its chuggy parts. I don't really blame you though. That guitar tone is meant for wicked ass thrashy chugging.

Awerewa - Optics

So this is a drone/noise style song with a lot of tremolo bar fondling. Forgive me, but I'm not very familiar with this style, and I mean no disrespect. I really didn't like this one. Some of the sounds coming from the guitar were kinda cool, but all-in-all, the vocals sat kinda strangely and the guitars just sounded incoherent.

The Murder Cult - Swear Yourself to Me

First thoughts: Killer fucking bass tone. Same for the guitars when they fully kick in. Makes a very good raw production doom metal song. The drums could have used a little more oomph, but they were alright. Could stand to change up the 8th note strumming patterns every now and then on the bass. Sometimes when the vocals picked up, they were so loud that they nearly compressed all of the instrumentation away. I would fix that ASAP. Good song, though.

Slavethrone - Champion of the Frozen Wastes

Starts off beautifully. Kinda like crossing a frozen lake, reflecting on important life stuff. Then it explodes into something great. The guitars have a very nice wintery tone, while still retaining a warm underbelly. I don't have much to say besides the fact that you did a damn good job. At some point in the middle, I almost thought it was a different song playing, and I had to double check, but it didn't really detract from the song itself.
