Hello

I have a problem i love to sing along to karaoke songs and my dream has always been to be a lead singer. I am 28 years old is that too old to be a lead singer? But the main problem is that i cannot sing. I sound shit on all songs i try to sing. Can i still be a frontman/leadsinger?

The last link is from a recording my band did a year ago. We tried to cover dimmu borgir.

You've got the voice and the range mate, take some vocal lessons so you can control your voice/transition between notes better.

If you're convinced that you suck, so will your audience.

Your voice isn't bad by itself.

Metal as such doesn't require a "pretty" voice. Have a decent growl too.

Vocal is 70% processing, 30% skill. In your case, it's clear that your processing is very off the charts

What gear are you using? What's your studio setup? Software environment?

Get a vocal mixing plugin like iZotope Nectar 3. Will take so much of the pain out of mixing and processing.

Get some soundproofing in your recording environment. Makes a HUGE difference

What?? Wrong. Stupid. Bad. No.

Also, admin can you just ban whatever IP NekaMorgondagen/HellBentForLeather25/Slayer1990 keeps posting from? The musician forum is a shell of what it used to be, sure, but that guy just makes it embarrassing and pitiful with this crap.

If that's the case, then guitar and bass are 90% processing (punch in & pencil), and drums are 99% processing (quantization, sampling).

Good thing most musicians also have the skill, because otherwise live performances would be horrendous.

James Hetfield said he just screamed the lyrics and it was enough to get the fans' attention. Metallica had intentions of getting a lead singer for a 5-member setup.

I guess it's never late to have singing lessons if you are into it. You should try to use the voice you have, not the voice you want. If the timbre is different, there's not much you can do. Even if you want to sing in a very specific manner, I suggest you learn how to sing with your own voice and later try variations. It never hurts to learn it properly.

The subject of this thread is funny. Couple things come to my mind. 1. You are never too old to learn or do anything. 2. Most things can be learned, and that includes singing. Like others have said, take some lessons. A decade from now, you'll be happy you did.
