is there a proper term for them? its played in between riffs and most of the time it sounds like the strings are being bent not sure and. you only hear it in dm, not thrash nor black...eg at 3:02 mark:

It's similar to a hammer-on except you strum the string first and you immediately try to touch just above the fret with your finger, but not actually pushing down too hard. I don't remember the exact term but I remember that's sort of how they do it.

Sounds like a pinch harmonic. It's used a lot in thrash, both in riffs and solos, not only in death.

I always though they were just a variation of the pinch harmonic, where you stick the side of your picking-hand thumb gently against the string that you're picking.

Cute probably wasn't the vibe that Robert Vigna had in mind. :lol:

Sounds like a pinch harmonic, and they pop up in sub-genres other than death metal, their just used in a different way in regards to composition, obviously.

Not heard the track, but isn't it a natural harmonic instead of an artificial (pinch) harmonic?

I hear a sustained natural harmonic at 3:02, and then a quick artificial harmonic at 3:03.
