Hey, my kids (15 and 13) listen to metal since they are 3. At the time it was Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Twisted Sister mostly ^^
Of course it had an impact on their views on music
My son is into drawing, but my daughter has decided in march 2017 to learn electric guitar - i teach her.

Her playing sounda very clear for a guitarist who has practiced for a year. You should teach her vibrato though.

As for the vibrato, yeah i showed her how it's supposed to be done, but right now she cannot handle it. She's too busy to avoid making noise with open strings.
And when she tries it she tends to bend the string instead of making it vibrate. That shit is not easy to master But she will succeed at some point.

Also i don't want to spam but when she plays power chords her fingers seem steady and don't fidget around. When i first started guitar, i could stretch my fingers like that only for a short period of time and then i would have to take a break. That's another positive aspect of your daughter's playing. Keep up the good job of teaching her!

It’s very nice that you are sharing your passion with your kids. Just the fact that she’s willing to put time and effort into learning to play the guitar and metal music is a big success already. Yes she is willing to learn more and master the instrument at some point. She showed the last vid to her friends and she's getting a small popularity at her school xD I think it helps her in a way, every musician love that feeling. So she's working harder since. ATM we're working on a mid-tempo Megadeth tune with a tricky rhythm part during the solo, to make her ups & downs precise, sharp and faster, and to strengthen her ring finger & pinky too.
Also she is doing her first steps into the bend area. It reminds me of how much i struggled with this :/

The required level is increasing. This is quite easy for a Megadeth tune, but complex enough with several different riffs to link together, string skipping, legato, and ups&downs during the break. I just played the harmonizations, working on the solo would have taken too much time.

I used this song for my daughter to know rock playing fundamentals 3 years ago.
I did the solo though, cause the required level is too high for her... for now. The next song she will be playing shows her progress better.

Here my daughter is doing all the work : rhythms, themes, solo (entirely). I think she did a pretty good job, with vibratos, in-key bends and stuff. Her 16th notes runs were not perfectly steady though.

She wanted to play Sampo from the very beginning of her guitar practice but the technical wall was too high. We began to work on it 2 years ago, and that wall still was a solid challenge. Now she turned a corner. 6 minutes in one shot, hey.

I'm a bit late here but I never check this subforum... It's cool to see her being this dedicated and improving over time, and you two sharing this interest. I never had the patience for it, personally.

But lately she's not really into guitar playing anymore :/ long days at school, first driving lessons, lots of homework, a boyfriend, boxing..
We still play together from time to time for her not to completely drop the instrument, but the time when she played something over and over to nail it, is over i guess.
