I really like the sound of 90's synths used in metal - especially slow strings and choir aahs. Not super clean nor realistic but with some "charm" that I can't find in nowadays synths. Can you help me recognize some synth models that were used back then to achieve those sounds?

Some examples:

Choirs (Sirrah - Lash)
Choirs (My Dying Bride - A Cruel Taste Of Winter
Choirs (Saturnus - Limbs of Crystal Clear)
Strings (Sacramentum - Darkness Falls for Me (Far Away from the Sun, Part 2))
