I might be boring, but I like to compare the subject of everyone's lyrics.

Mine consist of detailed stories of death, the decomposition process and just general gore that is written in good detail.

I suck at writing lyrics usually but I just tend to write about things that I think are cool and would make good "metal" lyrics. Things like war in general and things relating, like weaponry, key battles, etc. I also get inspiration from video games and TV.

I write about fictional depressing life stories, and abstract concepts. I like philosophy :).

I try to cover as many topics as I can think of. I'm pretty poor at writing lyrics, so whenever I get what I think is a good idea I try to develop it. Rather than writing with a specific style and topic in mind.

My first demo was two different "stories", one about a person tormented by guilt and nightmares, and another about someone who was murdered but came back to life to regain vengeance. Second demo had a general anti-faith song, a love song, a song with no real discernable topic ( damn what was I thinking when I wrote those lyrics ), and lastly a song about a mythological figure.

My new CD is a concept album about internal psychological forces, good vs. evil and ambition vs. stagnation. Each "aspect" represented by a different vocal style ( high/low harsh, male clean, and guest female clean singing ). It will hopefully come across well and sound something like a metal opera.

Rebelion (And by this I don't mean stupid shit, I mean sort of call-to-arms kinda stuff, I guess.)...The legal system (recently)...heavy metal...sex...day to day life...I take a lot of inspiration from what is actually happening in my life, occasionally presenting it fairly bluntly, but often also using metaphors and more fictional concepts to convey them. I was in a very interesting mental state at one point last year, and some lyrics definitely stem from that.

I wrote an "epic" based on the relationship of myself and my girlfriend at the time, although somewhat loosely based. I find the biggest mistake a lyricist can do is to limit what they write about.

Some rather typical things for me: the apocalypse (and aftermath), forests/nature overall, lyrics based on writing (H.P. Lovecraft), abstract things.

Nature, national romanticism. I plan to eke in history and Anglo-Saxon/pagan themes with regard to the latter where I see fit.

Some of my lyrics are stories that I created or based on books ive read, movies or video games. But I try to write them In a way that you would never realise it. Other subjects are anti-religion, goverment conspiracies, war, revenge, gore, etc.

At the moment it seems to be War and Death usually related to World War 2 but in the past its been zombies. We're still looking for new lyrical themes but saying that we only have a few songs.

I like writing humorously, either metal satire or just random funny stuff. I also like writing darker works that have the feel of Lovecraftian stories. I sometimes write love songs in a humorous light too.

Recently, about sex. Not in a goregrind way, something sutile and beautiful, the product of love and not just temporary pleasure. Also, death, society's problems, books, movies and videogames. But again, lately, tons of sex.

I think of myself as a mediocre to horrible lyricist. For my project Cold Blank Stare, which is black metal, I write lyrics that matter to me and me only. And I tend to write in a more blunt fashion, avoiding elaborate metaphors.

Some topics I've covered on my 1st ep and have conceptualized for my upcoming full length are anti-religion, anti-NS, humanity's flaw, fear of snakes, personal strife, abstract nonsense, violent nihilism, atheism, sexual perversion, and a narrative on the Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs. Some standard black metal stuff in there, but some really off the wall topics-especially for black metal.

I like making songs about killing people with various weapons and objects. I also like making songs about animals killing humans, and stuff like that.

Mostly instrumental, but when I do write lyrics, it's about love and/or death. I figure those are the central things in life.

a lot of the lyrics i write deal with my personal life. but it also varies depending on what genre of music im writing for.

the topics of my personal life usually come up in my more doom metal and depressive black metal projects.

i am currently writing for a technical death metal band which i plan to write about topics concerning astronomy and astrology.

though, at one point, for this band "Atrum Ventus" (one of my side projects) the first EP was a black metal release, but I did tell a story which was involving my personal life, its basically about how i slowly lost my faith in "god" and all that sort of stuff. but yeah...some of them are also somewhat "Satanic" based lyrics as well.

Conspiracy theories, the bullshit American government, and living up to some form of moral standard. Pretty decent for an old school grindcore band, eh?

Reality, society, the human mind... This also includes religious issues. I usually mask everything in metaphors so it doesn't sound too blunt and still maintains a metal feel.

Shardborns Vocalist (matt) writes all of our lyrics, and I love how well he does them.

we try something new for black metal... meaningful lyrics, lol

Virology is about zombies wich is kinda funny butgood lyrics.

Undying in the Mid-Day Sun (on the Hour of Reawakening) is very abstract lyrics, i still dont fully understand it, but its more or less about past agressions cathcing up to you

Northern Lights is lovcraftian because themes of transcendence and elder gods

Halcion in the Highrise is about hard drugs and falling into bad crowds (in the negative way)

we have alot of other songs with lyrics written but I havent seen them yet.

My main lyrical content consists of:

Satanism, Anti-Christianity, Death, Battle, Travel, and quests within the mind. Sometimes, I will go out of my "comfort" zones, but that is mostly what my lyrics portray.

Haha, I detected the sarcasm there. I have been working on my lyrics, and I wanted to start with things I enjoy to write about. Of course I will move to different subjects, as I am an avid lover of Philosophy, and how things should/ and can be done.

Mostly stuff like death worship, anti-theism, mythology, or animal and human right (in a roundabout non-preachy way). By the the way I write BM. So: :panda: :brick:

Depends. I mostly do Prog/Avant-Garde based stuff. A good deal of it's nonsensical (including the occasional metal song I write). I did one about the crucifiction and resurrection of a Turtle, one about YouTube, one about a hentai I found on /d/. It varies. A lot.

Wrote one song about Super Mario once, about how he's on an eternal chase from castle to castle, about how Bowser is just a fucking dick. I only did one song of it, never tackled it again.

strange how these things work out

I tend to write about the general decay of morality and values in America at the current time. About the seemingly infinite times the human race has repeated its own mistakes and is just blind to the fact. Unstoppable cycles that we are powerless to stop or change. I'll general stick to one concept or idea for a while and expand it to 4 or 5 poems/songs and then try to write around them.

Well, I am in several bands, and I write the lyrics and it all depends on the band. For my death/grindcore it is usually about animal rights, and animals rebelling/killing humans. But with my death metal band it's usually about killing whores/people who are the scum of society.

But I have found that writing songs ABOUT killing someone is not as good as writing a song about what leads up to the killing, it makes my lyrics seem more intelligent and less about killing people.
