If this should be in the "Keyboardist's Corner" thread, I apologize, but I'm wondering something..

Honestly, I don't have any keyboard experience under my belt, but want to. I have always been interested in psychedelic rock with the Moogie synthesizers/organs/keyboards in bands like Pink Floyd, The Doors, Salem Mass, etc.

So here is my question: what would be a good keyboard to use or start learning with if you were to use it in a metal band with psychedelia. One prime example is the Nachtmystium sound; but not a synthesizer. I like the Ray Manzarek sound from The Doors, and am looking for more of that sound that would be appropriate for metal.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I would go for something with a lot of knobs so you can control the filters and oscillators in real time.

Roland is also an option, but I would avoid the cheap Korgs, because they either don't sound that great, they don't have that many options and the keyboards are either too small or the keys not so good.

Although of course you could also consider a controller keyboard and modules, hooking everything up by MIDI. There are various modules available, from ones with knobs and virtual analog stuff, to ones with different sounds, including organs and pianos, to organ modules with drawbars.

Yamaha Motif series are excellent. Pretty wide range of products/prices.
