This month I am crossing the 500 Euro mark of income since I started spreading music online. A joke compared to professional bands, but for my type of music that's an awesome threshold to cross.

That's really good, actually. Congrats! It's a milestone for sure.

It's since July 2013 when I first started the Alpha Drone bandcamp. But it's speeding up, the first 250 took five years, the second took one and a half years.

Signing up to CDBaby has done a lot. They upload to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Google Music, Deezer, etc all the streaming services, always a few cents every day, sometimes more.

congratulations, making any money from your own music these days is an accomplishment, esp for such a niche artist who doesn't tour (pardon me if I got things wrong on either)... :) if you don't mind me asking, have you paid for promo work? I'm not asking about whatever percentage all those portals and distributors charge/keep as default, but if you've paid anyone to place an ad or make fb posts more visible, for.ex?

Going by advertisements I get, I do not trust their targeting at all, so I seek out places to advertise myself. I did pay for a promo thing on last.fm once, years ago, and I think it actually had an effect. It would put the artist in the "similar artists" radio station of selected artists on the site, but I dunno if anyone still streams last.fm radios in this day and age, and the music manager portal seems to have vanished anyway. Probably possible to do something like it on other streaming services but I haven't looked into it yet.

I'm working on a sequel to Martial Industrial Metal, which has overtaken the Alpha Drone debut to be my most successful release. It will be titled Martial Industrial Metal II (bonus points for creativity) and it will sound a lot more like the title says than the first one does, basically being In Slaughter Natives with riffs and a bit of Wappenbund with riffs.

Also working on a new Alpha Drone song that'll basically be pop music.

Currently, I'm looking for a drum throne. Choosing between Tama and DW Drum Workshop. Maybe some of you have already bought these thrones and can share the experience. Here is the review on them https://pickadvisor.org/best-drum-throne/ Both have quite good quality and are promised to be comfortable in use, but anyway real personal experience inspires more confidence.

Just released my third full-length with Soliloquium today. Death/doom metal with a progressive/melodic edge to it. Really happy with this one!

What am I up to as a musician?
I've been playing a bit over 100 days (~3 months) and I am now wondering why my overdrive on my amp is starting to sound more like fuzz.
I'm messing with free-styling riffs and short solos on the spot. I like C# tuning especially. My callouses are starting to become permanent, no more dead skin on my strings :ugh: so doing slides no longer is uncomfortable and feels really smooth, like running my fingers across oil or butter.
I want a new guitar because the one my dad got me is a cheap starter kit from amazon (you might have seen some funny YouTube videos on $1000 amp vs $100 amazon guitar), the company is LyxPro. I am pretty good at tremolo picking, I know my chords, duh, and I can do very quiet tapping. My biggest issue is that I practice sitting down on my bed so I can't play standing up, especially with my worn-out strap. Got a capo in the mail but it was for ukulele so we're sending it back. I'd want to start a band but my friends who play guitar either know one artist or even just one song on bass or they aren't as good as me despite playing for 5 years, 1 year of lessons, and me 3 months, self-taught :P
Feel free to recommend a song for me to play, I'm pretty good at picking things up, I might really change my musical style who knows?

good job! the cleans are good. not my particular style. obviously I like the death more. great sound on the drums and everything is tight.

was this that long standing band you had been doing? I know it's been a long time since i've regularly checked or responded here.

this is seriously good, love the chorus, the vocals and the widdly guitar solo... the mix could be tweaked a bit, i think, but maybe it's a matter or taste... very looking forward to the EP :)

Very thankful for the kind words!

SLK, this band is only new in the sense that I came up with the idea for it four years ago and the songs have been written for about a year and a half at this point. It's the first band I've done that has no shared members with or direct collaboration from anyone in Sorrowseed or Blacksoul Seraphim. So a roundabout way of saying no, this is not the same band I had been in for so long. I quit that band several years ago, as did everyone else that wrote the music. :P

The EP comes out on May 22nd. The rest of the songs are much doomier and slower than this. This song was meant to be very much like Amorphis, minus the blast beat part, but the other songs are more along the lines of Swallow the Sun.

About to release my latest EP on the 25th of may. Check the link below to listen to one of the tracks. Breakbeat kinda stuff. No metal but every sound effect you hear is from my distorted guitar.

I'm also using Ableton since a few weeks and I like it a lot better than Magix what I've been using the last 7 years. I'm also mastering my slam death metal track which might be part of an upcoming full-length but who knows? A friend of mine is doing the artwork for this single. Not sure when I will release it though but I can't wait to let others hear it.

I actually did the math on it, and I'd need literally $666 in sales in order to break even on this record after the Bandcamp fee. Funny how things work out like that. :P

I've been perfecting a digital re-creation of the bass synthesizer sound from the new DOOM soundtracks.

Hi, infinitenexus! I've been reading your old guide to producing metal again and again, so it's at least partially your fault if my stuff sounds the way it does.
Thank you, anyway! That's a really comprehensive guide, very useful.

P.S. Wait a minute, you were banned in 2014 and unbanned in 2020? What did you do? People who murdered kings have been given more lenient sentences.

Hi, first post on the forums. I just registered.

Tbh I didn't know there was a forum here until recently.

These days we're, in my band, working on our debut release, set for a fall release. No date yet.

For anyone interested to hear we just put up our first track publicly on SoundCloud:
https://soundcloud.com/darkathame/the-trumpets-call

For our six-track album there's mostly some vocals that isn't finished, and then the fine editing and tuning of each mix and master.

I'm also working on the cover art.

Cheers

Had an account here a long time ago but spent a long time away from the internet due to work and studies and now I can't even remember what my nickname was.

I'm the dude from Hellige, in case anyone remembers. I was gonna send some of you guys a couple of copies from our demo, but they got "lost" at the post office and I didn't have the time nor energy to go complain and probably arrive nowhere. A similar fate got the foreign-print copies of our split album which got stuck in customs... we never even managed to get a copy for ourselves.
So sorry about that, I'll make it up with free downloads when we release our LP.

The riffs in Reason are wicked sick man, great job. I'm not so sure I like the way the album's mixed, but it isn't terrible either.

Very interesting, love the flow of the music, the structure is very dynamic and catchy.

Thank you very much for the feedback.

We have since the last post decided we want to release this track as a single before the full album. This was the song our singer (now full blown band member) auditioned with about a year ago.

I'm a one-man metal band and am currently working on my first full-length album. My debut EP was folk metal, and I released a few singles from ambient to a black metal demo. My new album is depressive suicidal black metal and I'm very excited about it. I think I'm exploring some very cool and unusual sounds for the genre.

My latest, and likely last, song for the album is a short, simple, melancholic piano piece. On its own, it doesn't fit DSBM at all, but I think it's a cool interlude as it mixes things up fairly drastically and is unique in that way. There's some other cool and somewhat strange parts of the album, but I think it's coming out pretty well. Just need to record vocals and mix it all.

I recently released a single called Fading that you can listen to here: https://bellwethr.bandcamp.com/track/fading

Fading is the intro song to the album and isn't quite metal but gets the ideas of the album across pretty well.

My one man black metal project's debut album mixed and mastering is done, im still waiting to hear from the artist when he will do my album art.

Im trying to form a Trad. Heavy Metal band but so far i cannot find any people in my city who are interested enough in jamming. Ive already have songs written.

I am looking into relocating/restarting a different city in the future if I cannot find any other musicians with the same vision and goals.

Despite not being able to practice lately (because of Covid restrictions, but next week we will be able to practice again) we did a lot for our band/upcoming release.
New logo, bandpics, artwork is almost done (by Jota Cravo. Really siked about what he came up with) and we are going to have it released and promoted with a small, local label.
Getting motivated again.

Sold my rectifier amp, traded 2 V30 speakers for G12K-100 and now looking for a 6505+. Really excited to go for a bit of a different sound after 7 or 8 years with the same amp.

I just got out of prison :) in a few months I might be taking up bass for Omnihility again and continuing to work on my solo projects which are basically the same thing, but meh, whatever. My guitar skills are pretty rusty, but they're coming back. I'm also trying to press a few demos to CD just to do it. Vinyl is way too expensive for what it is and I want a physical copy.
