All the "rhythm" tracks (guitars, bass, drum, keyboard intro) are done on my song for the challenge. Tomorrow I'll lay down the vox, then finish off any guitar/keyboard leads and expand on the outro over the next few days or so.

Recorded bass for my challenge song today. Got a section with four bass tracks, which is pretty cool. Now I need to do synths. Once that's done, I'll either leave it as is or might see if it's possible to get into a studio for some vocals... If not, it'll be instrumental. Which is a bit annoying, as I'm getting a mic a couple of days after the deadline... Ah well.

As far as singing goes, I'm practicin breathing stuff and other things. Got singing lessons for about a month now and my teacher says I'm less than a half note away of nailing the high note in Dream Theater's ''Leaning to Live''. Great! :)

After 3 very intense weeks in the studio, we finished recording our 3rd album last night. We're off to Paris in mid-December to mix, and if all goes according to plan, the album will be out through Kolony Records in April 2012.

Programmed synths and finalised the drums for my challenge track last night, so I'm now at the stage of waiting for my mic to arrive/writing lyrics/wondering what other shit I can add to it...

And my post-metal band's starting to take shape, got some awesome guitarists on board, so now we're getting round to regular jams and writing shit. Rather excited about this.

Yesterday I recorded 6 tracks. apparently I can't count I thought I had 8 written but I only had 7 and one of them was too far removed from the others that I just scrapped it.

wasn't so bad took me around 4 hours to record 2 guitar tracks (3 if you include the scratch), one bass, and one drum track. and basically learning the song via how I pictured it and wrote it down. I didn't have to make too many changes like I thought. Overall I'm quite pleased with it. tmwr I'll probably record another 5 and then mix it over the weekend roughly.

Recently I've lost motivation to do any sort of songwriting, so I guess I'm just noodling on my guitar till something good comes out of it...

Never bothered me, just meant I had free time to pursue more in the generes of music I wanted to do more work in than what I was doing in other bands.

wrote 5 songs that I'll attempt to record tmwr. i might get halfway done with them.

Thinking of taking my DSBM band into a different direction, as I'm starting to think there's no real room to breathe when it comes to DSBM writing. Instead, I'll be adding elements of Orthodox Black Metal and Occult Black Metal, with themes of ritual suicide, invoking demons, and one of the songs actually having a necromantic spell for lyrics.

What think?

Well it couldn't hurt to have a few outside influences. Most of the DSBM scene nowadays is terribly generic and uniform.

First practice this saturday for a Descendents cover set. Can't wait to jam these songs and actually not have to sing and just play bass for once.

right as of now I'm writing some Cannibal Corpse/Krisiun hybrid style death metal for a possible solo project. If I ever complete a song (if I ever being the key words) then I might post some.

I'm starting a progressive metal band right now. It's kind of like a combination of Arcturus, Gojira, Mr. Bungle, and Symphony X. We've got about 4 or 5 songs so far and it's going pretty well, our drummer is really awesome especially. The only problem is there is a bit of a creative difference between me and the singer (who writes a lot of the material), because I want to incorporate more power metal elements and get more melodic but he wants to get more experimental and dissonant.

Do you think you two can work out the differences or does it seem like it will become more of a problem?

As for me, I just finished up some recording a song and a little rough mixing. I just have to see if I can still do vocals after not doing any for.... 8 years, wow. Ugh.

Got a rather nice microphone today, so I'm now going to spend the next week practising my vocals, writing lyrics for my doom challenge song, and recording like a motherfucker.

Finally in a band with my friends called Violent Power. It's been over a year since we've started fucking around playing music but we finally got it going. It's d-beat filled hardcore punk, extremely influenced by Poison Idea's Pick Your King EP with some dbeat stuff like Doom, Discharge and Anti-Cimex. I've been writing tunes like crazy. Cannot wait to play and get going so people don't have to listen to goofy punk rock/surf music anymore at shows and can finally listen to some real hate filled hardcore.

Hopefully we will be able to put out a split soon. My bandmates don't want us to have anything online about us (facebook, bandcamp, etc.) but I'll put all our music online at some point.

I've already spent seven months of this year locked up in home because of sickness/broken bones :ugh:

Also trying to learn some Bach on the bass.

Dealing with cymbals breaking, but figured out the problem with my sticks falling to pieces. One money snatcher to the next! Still working on vocals, gave up on guitar for now.
Possibly starting that black/thrash band soon with this guy and a few others.

Anybody know a good mic that isn't overly expensive? My attempt at being cool using a Rock Band mic makes everything sound(obviously) like crap. My bass drum sounds like somebody kicking a wall when I record...

Not very much. I don't really have a set budget though, it's just a matter of saving up the money. Under 200 or so would be great though.

You could try a Shure SM57.
EDIT
Wait, missread, for a second thought you wanted one for vocals; you want it for the drums, right? An AKG D112 is the best I can think for under 200usd to get a proper recording of the kick and low stuff.

Thank you! I greatly appreciate the compliment!

I've slowed my writing just recently since I cannot record anything since my laptop died/ bought a new PC/ transfered old files to the PC/ installed all the programs I use for editing and recording on both the new PC and home PC/ ordered a PCI card to use my firewire/ order a new PCI card to use since the first one doesn't fit....

I listed it off like that cause it's been about 2 wk process going on it's 3rd week now. hell the first wk was wasted while I was trying to see if the laptop could be saved.

so I've been mixing and editing.

Finalized the tracks for a split tape that is out early next year

http://54rgrindcore.bandcamp.com/

there's the link if anyone is interested. it's thrashy/blackened grindcore.
