Spent today writing a heavy/doom metal song (first song I will have written). I have most of the guitar parts down, just need to write a solo (maybe) but I'm not very good at that so it may be a while before I finish it. I'll figure out the bass/drum parts tomorrow on TuxGuitar before I go out and get absolutely annihilated :D I like what I have so far, has some Black Sabbath and Gates of Slumber influences.

What music genre/style?

I would label it classical music but the term reeks of cranky old farts sipping red wine while listening to The Best of Beethoven, so I'll just say it's music. I know I'm being boring here but I'm really unable to put it under any genre.

Would you by any chance post the finished outcome. I would love to hear the track. Doom on!

Many thanks man. I've never had stage fright before, but I then again I've never had difficulty learning songs for a band until now. The vocalist and other guitarist spent a whole hour the other day just whipping my right hand technique into shape so that the riff sounds like what they want. It's a tiring but beneficial experience.

http://vimeo.com/34426898

we did the last waking the dead tour.. kind of sad. but it was a lot of fun and I got to see brazil for a bit.
(I'm the guitarist)

so now we've been busy with the ressurection of primal order. different (crustier) vocals, more rockin and punk influenced instead of the more standard death metal thing we did last time.
I still cannot play the drums properly.

Very awesome I hope you stick with it!

Today got together with a full band for the first time in I don't know how long. guitarist and bassist i've never jammed with before. Got together under the direction that we were going to do some old Napalm Death/ Bolt Thrower worship mishmash... some how that morphed into a Gorguts/Baring Teeth styled band. We have a rough cut of a song thus far. It really coming together really well. I'm quite pleased.

Nice one man.

Having a lazy day today, messing around with a bass guitar. Had a fucking killer show for NYE last night- not sure how many people caught our set, but there was over a thousand people for the whole venue so it was probably 500-600ish. Got an assload of free drinks afterward and I've got the hangover to show for it, heh.

Yea I'm very stoked on is and so is the rest of the band. We already have a name, title to the song... and new practice regiment that works for everyone. First band that I've ever done were everyone got on the same page this quickly and started writing some really killer shit right off the bat.

Tight on the show/free drinks!

Got back to writing music again, now that school is resuming. Finished up the skeleton of 2 unfinished songs, and am now (slowly) working on 3 more.

Working on two new songs, and making new versions of some, mostly the previous posted (on the feedback thread) Deathcrush, Requiem Mass, and Buried Alive.

I moved out to my current area last May. I hooked up with a like-minded drummer, and we've been playing minimalistic-style black metal. I'm almost done with the writing of our 5th song. This is my first time as a songwriter, so go easy on me. I'm also not much of a guitar player (I play bass and drums, normally). I was originally only going to do guitar temporarily until we found someone else, but our songs are getting better and better, I think, and I'm actually having fun playing guitar for the first time ever. We have our first show booked for February 25th (in Knoxville, TN).

Not for everyone, but I hope you enjoy.

My band ASTRUM is finally playing our first proper show. We did do a private party last year.
We also have a new vocalist, a female. Also introducing a new song at the show.
And plan to record something this year.
Also going to do a side project with a punk band this year, with the material largely mine in a collaboration.

Wrath_Of_War, sounds pretty good. A little more tightening up overall and i'd say you are ready to slay.

Got back bout an hour ago from nola, the jam went very well aside from the rock start of getting adjusted to the kit and situating the guitar so I can hear it more than the bass. have one song pretty much down, i'll be practicing it and 2 others during the week for the next practice. They already have a full length written and want to move towards recording immediately and asap.

Finally done the second song on my one man band demo. Now, I just need to keep rewriting the really old song I'm gonna put on it.

Yeah, me too. I really dug the last EP. Not everyday you find someone playing proggy slam death!

Yeah, that's what we are focusing on right now, really. We almost have the entire album written, so we are just tweaking things, and tightening up. We are both still kind of learning our instruments (I play bass and drums. I'm a terrible guitar player, and my drummer is 17 years old). If you heard us play about 4 months ago, you would've probably thought there was no hope at all. So it's coming along rather quickly.

Thanks for the support!!

Wrath_Of_War, pretty cool atmosphere. I liked it, if only because it resembled Drudkh and some other cool bands  . I enjoy a tad more intricate riffwriting, that is to say, I want more to happen in the riffs, however, intricacy would mean to miss the point of minimalistic black metal, would it not?

In that song, the basic idea is right. The songwriting could use some work in my opinion. As it is, it sounds like a black metal song written by Pelican. Riffs simply come and go and do not build up enough or work for any greater whole. I'm not sure how Darkthrone does it; I think they simply have planned the songs really well in that each passage suits the others and complements them.

By the way, you stole my friend's riff, at 5:40.

Needs a thrash beat. Still good.

As far as my D-beat/crust hardcore band goes, we got 8 songs and counting and playing two shows in the coming months, our first show being an out of town show. We are going to be recording a "demo" next practice. If you like Hellkrusher and Discharge and Poison Idea you should like it.

I didn't "steal" anything. I came up with that on my own, but if that part resembles a friend's song, I'm going to be so pissed, because I thought it sounded cool.

I bet your friend can't rock the fat double chin at 5:56!!

Thanks for the comments. The songwriting is evolving quickly. That was only our second song. Judging by the wording of your criticism, I think you'd enjoy the few more recent songs we've done. Videos soon to come.

I know you didn't steal anything; my friend has never released any of his recorded material anyway.

I bet my friend also thought it sounded cool, since all he played at one point was riffs like that.

I like this quite well, the guitar tone reminds me of Drudkh as well. Any plans for releases in the future?

recorded a demo of a death metal song for a new project. I don't like it much so i'm scraping most of it and going back to the drawing board with it.

Thanks! We are recording this spring. A friend of mine is recording us. He recorded the new Encoffination album, and the new (upcoming) Father Befouled album as well. Can't wait.

So I couldn't give you a time frame for a release, but we are going to make a few more videos of newer songs, and I'll post them here if folks seem interested. We also have a Facebook page. www.facebook.com/OfficialOakmoon

Cool, I'll definitely keep an eye out for the new stuff.

Set out some dates to record my extreme doom stuff at the end of January, and it will be released om a split cassette with a atmospheric black metal project. I'll post more details once we get more stuff finalized.

Started working on some electronic music last night. It's pretty fun, but time consuming. I'll finish some of it up this week.
My black/thrash band is now going to be hardcore punk. Just gotta find an empty weekend to practice.

Nothing really interesting at all...

Daily practice and take lessons from a Jazz bassist, that's all. Maybe I should form my own band and start doing something really interesting. But my local scene is stuck on the Rock-Pop-Indie sound and It's hard to find any musician who really shares my tastes.

The last two bands I joined sucked. One was a shitty commercial Rock group (Nickelback style), and the other one turned into a Metalcore band shortly after I left. I think they still play under the same name but none of the original members is still there...

currently thinking about quitting playing bass. i came to the realization that i'm pretty horrible at it and that i won't be able to find a band willing to play my style of music anyway so i don't see the point anymore, and i'm not talented enough to make my own music.

What is your style of music? Besides, there's no such thing as "not talented enough to make your own music". Just takes a bit of messing around and getting inspiration.

well i'm more into death metal music and i would like to form a punk or deathcore band too but i'm having trouble finding other people who like that music. i guess i'm not THAT bad at bass, but i'm not very good at it. also, i just recently left a band who i thought wanted to play death metal and deathcore (since me and the guitarist were previously in a deathcore band) but turns out they wanted to be metalcore and play asking alexandria kind of music (who i just can't stand). so i'm currently thinking about either quitting it or just doing my own thing, or starting up a project with one of my guitarist friends who is into death metal (although not as much as i am). i've also thought of making my own one-man project where i play all the instruments (guitar, vocals, bass, programming) or find a drummer and do like a duo thing.

. . . fuck it, I haven't the right recording equipment and no drummer that plays death metal. Hardly anyone here in this shitty city that likes dm anyways.

Found and old stoner-y song I did long ago... well, not really a song as it's only bass and drums... and actually it's more like a recollection of riffs that's quite messy, but I've been using it to practise with the bass and I'm kinda liking the stuff, I had already forgotten all about it, do you guys think this is salveable or my judgement is kinda clouded today? http://www.mediafire.com/?g4s60bo1ff68cdn

Also, going to the guitarist's house on Wednesday to finish the black/doom demo.

Definitely salvable! The first two riffs are good stuff, but I felt the tempo change towards the end felt awkward and unnecessary. The last riff is cool too.
