We finally played our first live show last night. I've been releasing music since 1989 myself, and finally got a band in 2009, and have since recorded 2 full length CD albums, but never got it together enough to have regular practices and play out, till the mid half of last year, when we got focused. We have a new vocalist now and we played our set, we played after the death metal band Abominant, and opened for The Stonecutters. It was great, I think it went real well, and everyone told me it was great. We had it videoed, but I don't have it yet.

Quit playing bass if you're not having any fun playing. Don't quit just because you don't think you're very good. That's just crazy...and a little depressing.

hey man thanks. i do have fun playing and yeah it is a little depressing but i think now i'll just start writing my own music (i also play guitar). i've been thinking about playing experimental and jazzy stuff but keeping in some metal influences.

Finished off a track for an upcoming split that's been 95% done since August. Might remix it, but I think it sounds pretty good.

Got a gig with my rock group in Febraury. Still waiting to hear back from the dude about a possible tech death band.

might never happen!^

Anyway wrote/worked on two dm songs for a new project. I recorded demos of them earlier in the week but scrapped those takes and salvaged what I did like from the riffs and reworked them. usually this doesn't happen, but i wasn't quite sure how to straddle the line of this band without it totally sounding like other stuff i've done.

Practiced with gorguts styled band today. finished writing the first song and worked more on strengthening and tightening it up. I'm very pleased. already decided on a name and have a logo that I did up long ago cause I had planned on using the name at some point for something like this.

Psychic Faith did spend the last month or so working with a different guitarist but it ultimately didn't work out. He's an incredibly talented player/songwriter with some great experience but we weren't exactly compatible. Thus we're still looking for a guitarist and hope to get some stability in for 2012.

But on a related note, I've also been working on my bass technique and songwriting skill since they're both pretty simplistic at the current moment. I have three new songs written as well as several older songs that I need to fix up. Any advice on how to successfully make one's songwriting more dynamic without making it sound forced?

Develop a theme, follow the lyrics, don't try to force the change of dynamics, make them flow.

Recorded a shit demo with a shit cassette player. Wish the guitar was better, need to get a new one and I needed to be way louder. Stupid fucking brocore band practicing the entire time we were recording too so it sucks. Playing our first show this friday out of town and then playing next week with a big band from Buffalo.

Leaking Head - Us & Them: A Tribute to Pink Phloyd: http://www.mediafire.com/?22nevaive9a93

It really sucks, and the song Rash of Thrash is the worst one. Drummer can't drum good.

If by Gorguts you mean Considered Dead/Erosion of Sanity era Gorguts, then I want to hear.

Thought up a concept for a third album and started planning for it as I was bored. Pretty cliche, but it'll have 3 tracks, probably around 15-20 minutes.

I also thought of an interesting acoustic guitar section in my head, but I forgot it all as I came home. :(

Started writing some heavily Psych/Prog Rock influenced atmospheric BM to do as Green Destroyed a few releases down the line (I've got some material for splits plus 2 full lengths to record and get released first though).

Recorded a shitty dungeon synth tune. I like the music ( main riff shamelessly stolen directly from the Doom 64 theme) but the snyth I recorded it with sucks and makes the whole thing sound cheap.

Check it out:

(Yep, stole the name too. Thanks Primordial :-P )

lol man I am one indecisive sonofabitch aren't I. I decided to keep with the one-man band thing. I have crappy recording materials but recording materials nonetheless. All I need now is a logo. . .

Animicantus, very cool! good luck with it!

StinkyPenis, Nope more along Obscura. Not as complex as that yet. So it falls more in Baring Teeth/Ulcerate territory... but again we are just starting out. So... yea I guess you won't be getting our ep in a few months.

Went to practice in nola with osdm. got a song down started learning a new one. For some reason I started derping the fuck up on easy shit with tempo shifts... I think it's cause I'm purposfully playing so restrained i messed up.

I'll be jamming to the tracks throughout the week for next practice and I'll be tight on it.

Kind of a bummer but good luck. i really what you are doing with Ishimura.

Just got asked to sing in an extreme thrash band, hopefully this works well I've never done vocals so I'm going to be working on them.

No way a bummer for me. That era of Gorguts is my favorite and is my favorite album out of everything ever. So i'm pretty thrilled. I'm glad you dig Ishimura! Got another ep/full recorded musically. soon as the vocalist does his part, it'll be out!

I really want to start a black/thrash metal band but everybody in my area wants to play core or djent.
Right now I'm learning guitar and taking a creative writing class in college to help me with my lyric writing.

So far, it's going alright.

Keyboard is in the shop. In the meantime writing some limbonic art-esque material on GP to employ in the future.

This happens to me sometimes when I play mid tempo stuff. It's just slow enough that I have too much time to think about what I'm doing instead of just letting muscle memory take over. Annoying.

My band played our 1st show last Saturday.
Everyone said it was great.
Here is a clip from it:
This is from our show last Saturday:

Shit, I think it's cause they wanted me to play even more restrained than even the last guy the worked with. I naturally want to play with more fills and rolls and additives. anyway took the songs to my shed and ran through then 3 times each for 2 of the songs witn no issues at all.

I have the exact same problem. I've found one guy who wants to start a band, but then something else comes up and that can't be done either.
One man band, all the way.

Starting to improve on drums a lot. I can do blast beats a lot better, just got to work on fills. Going to focus more attention on guitar when I get an electric, should be pretty soon. I'll do some form of black metal, probably black/thrash or regular black metal. Everything should come together and I can start messing around with stuff within a few months.

Still looking for members to fill out my band. Even signed up to bandmix, but that hasn't really been useful so far. Also working on tapped arpeggios for the solo in the new song I'm writing. I always do this thing where I'm overambitious and I come up with stuff that's way above my skill level.

Finally, done with the recording of the demo, I just gotta send some effects for a drone part to the guitarist, he finishes some minor mixing and we have our fucking album.

I'd like to advertise the upcoming February 2012 metal-archives songwriting challenge. All aspiring (as well as adept) musicians are welcome to write their own song in a designated genre in one month and slam each other's pitiful efforts with their reviews afterwards. It's a lot of fun! :D

So, has anyone heard of a genre named "Occult Black Metal" before (using it as a lyrical tag doesn't count).

Leaking head had its first show in Olean, Ny. It was fun slept over at friends house. Fight broke out during a band, some retard got his legs smashed into a hundo pieces. Fuck with us and shit happens.

Show was pretty bad though. By the time we played everything was broken, the drum kit was extremely tiny and the guitar amp I was using was dying. Still had fun though.

I'm wondering the same. Do you have a job beside music or is it all you focus on? :p

Working more on vocals. Can finally nail the watch the sparrow falling! part in ''Pull me Under''.

Put some old, old demos up just for shits and giggles. And a new little piece.

A lame trip-hop melody (the newer piece):
http://soundcloud.com/poormansiscariot/winterfell

A goofy, ghoulish dark ambient soundscape:
http://soundcloud.com/poormansiscariot/ ... -of-sanity

A poorly executed little 'synthphonic' tune (lots of flubs here):
http://soundcloud.com/poormansiscariot/ ... ape-empire

More 'synthphonic' shit with a bit of an Eastern flare, still flubs:
http://soundcloud.com/poormansiscariot/ ... om-siberia

Just for fun.

hahah I do have a full time job just the way everything works out is perfect.

I wake up at 5 and I'm at the gym by 615 which I workout till just before 7.
My work is less than a minute away so I just drive over, and it doesn't matter what I look like so that saves some time.
I get off work at 3:30PM so I go back to the gym for another 30-40mins and in that time I decide if I want to go to my shed which is exactly 7mins away.
Once I get there I have everything set up so i can record at the drop of a dime.
My wife doesn't get home from her going to the gym till around 7ish . So usually I might stay at my shed for 1-2 hours. I don't really sit and practice anything anymore. I just write or work on songs I'm going to record or play to.
I also have a guitar at my house with some headphones that if I get the bug I might write some musicat my house and just record it the next day.

And then on my weekends I get up between 5 and 6ish and I'll go to my shed directly and write and record for 4-5 hours and then hit the gym before chilling at home till the next day if I have a practice or not.

So outside of my 40 hours at work and 10ish hours at the gym all my free time is usually devoted to music related pursuits or painting/artwork.

I guess I'm so used to practicing for almost 8 hours a day with multiple bands for the first 6 years of me seriously playing music. that was on top of 40-50 hours of work and 12 hour college semesters.

Didn't do much today, just reworking some death metal.
