I'd love to do something, but time is not something I currently have in abundance. I haven't even gotten around to listening to the grindcore/metalicious comps yet.

I think this shit i dead for awhile.

I didn't even bother with the grindcore challenge for the most part. I tried but honestly it was ruined for me from the begining so I honestly don't care anymore.

Got some paperwork done for my divorce. That woman is batshit insane, so I just hope I can get it done quickly without her going nuts on me anymore. I'm hoping she'll be an adult and finally realize that the divorce is best for both of us. She bought tickets for us to see Carcass in NYC in about a month but I don't want to go with her, even to see Carcass.

Wrote a doom song yesterday, and now I'm working on another. Well, death/doom I guess. I'm enjoying it. Still trying to finish up some black metal songs, and I went and redid all the guitar parts with a small Marshall amp that I have to give a more "organic" sound, since it's black metal. Now the guitars have that classic 80s Marshall roar, and I'm not sure if that's good for black metal or not. Oh well. Guess I'll try to think of a name for a doom metal band also. Maybe even do a goregrind side project as well. We'll see.

SLK, how many bands/projects do you have total?

a fucking lot. I don't keep up with the number cause they come and go. cause there are a number of things that are in incomplete stages. my artist page on here is a decent indication though.

I just put all my stuff in one project, regardless of genre, since I rarely play with other people. If anything, it's a good way to annoy potential fans...

I figured you did infinite.

Clogged, that's great if you don't have any sort of theme or desire to carry out a consistent sound throughout a project's life. I don't play with people for the most part and I have separate bands for those different voices I give life to because they frankly do sound vastly different and I know many people/fans that like one and not the other. and not even the vastly different ones. Some people like Filtheater but don't like Draug or Corpse Arise. and viceversa.

Yeah, that's cool too. Sorry for still not checking out people's projects, my rural internet has really limited data usage (plus no sound card on my net comp).

I know this is a metal forum, but could we possibly do a dark ambient challenge?

Some of my favorite metal bands (Burzum, Celtic Frost) have great dark ambient sections.

I'd like to try some dark ambient. I experimented with it on Licrest's album. Not sure if there'd be enough people interested in that for a full challenge though.

Hell only 2 people got their shit together for the last one. I'm still working on what I was doing since the time passed on it so it doesn't matter any more.

I really wanted to do the last one, I just ended up kinda overwhelmed with my divorce, and really depressing doom metal fit me more at the time. I actually wrote enough for 2.5 albums haha. Right now I kinda want to do something like old school death metal or deathgrind. Something raw and aggressive.

Just don't be like our gubmint and shut down because you can only do the drums for 4, not all 5.

So the important question is:

What's the next challenge?

Limp Bizkit?

What major genre of metal have we not done yet? I know I've participated in doom, grind, and black metal challenges. I believe there was a stoner one, but a lot of people didn't really like it. Death metal might be too easy, since a majority of people in here already play death metal. Thrash maybe? Power metal may even be kinda fun, though I couldn't do it seriously. Falsetto vocals. Haha. I had an interesting idea to give everyone a nice high quality .wav recording of two different drum beats and nothing else. The challenge of course would be to write and record songs over those beats. It could be interesting to see how people do things differently.

We did a death metal with a twist which is what inspired for me to take up doing Uzumaki.

Power metal was suggested at one point but a large majority was like either... I don't have the desire or ability to play that music nevertheless do the vocals that it would require. I know for one I wouldn't even bother attempting it.

Thrash metal just dulls me, I wouldn't bother with that either.

Don't like the idea of the drum beats. Not that it's a bad challenge, I just would have zero interest in that as well.

I still say ambient thrash. Haha.
I'm pretty much out of ideas when it comes to the next challenge.

I'd like to do another doom challenge at some point, even if not the next one.

Something a little out of left-field would be ideal, but then again, that very often stunts productivity.

Doom would be fun, but I'd like to try something new. At this point I'm not sure what that is anymore though, haha.

well it's probably not going to be till Feb going by years past. doing anything at this time is always horrible. and Jan is horrible cause everyone is getting back to routine or school or whatever.

We could do a strings-on-fire kinda thing. Make a generic backing track and have everyone solo over it.

I'm not exactly Guthrie Govan myself haha, maybe this could force us to get our chops up!

I think you're on the right path though. The next challenge should maybe be something really to challenge us as musicians instead of just writing music in a certain genre - although I do enjoy that as well.

Or it could be just a random assignment of cover songs within a certain genre. This way if I get a Necrophagist song then I will have to work on my sweeps day at night(nah just kidding I'd probably pull out HAHAHA but you get the idea).

If I tried to play a necrophagist song my hand would probably fall off. That being said, it's exactly the kind of stuff I should practice.

Another idea could be to take a sentence or paragraph from some book or something, and you have to write a song that you think sounds like the sentence/paragraph, in any genre. Know what I mean?

I would prefer more than simply a sentence or a paragraph. An entire concept, preferably, as defined by something with clear, unambiguous meaning, rather than merely a vague fragment. As an example, concepts like the barrow-wights in Lord of the Rings, the Bright Carvers in Gormenghast, or certain dilemmas that a character in a novel is facing, and such things.
