“From the ashes we emerged to suffer towards our Eschatology for the rest of our mortal existence.”

Times of pox and death, heresy and persecution, when Hell was wrought on earth in the name of a so-called ‘God’: Bann’s mission is to explore those mediaeval times through their unique brand of ambient black metal. Following on from the highly acclaimed 2006 debut demo ‘Antiochia’ (re-released 2007 by Grief Foundation), Bann now fulfill the promise of their early work with this new album. Recorded, mixed and mastered at SAD studios in Germany.

Through Æschatologia, their debut full-length, Bann (Hoffarth and Thurn) depict the disease and filth of the Middle Ages through a 6-part hour-long symphony. Black Metal vocals (reminding a little of Silencer) are used to tell the tale of these times, with symphonic soundtrack driving home the emotion and despair of the scenes within. Each track tells a separate tale of woe covering subjects such as infant mortaility, The Crusades, and the Papal Bull of 1484 that was to condemn thousands to torture and death accused of witchcraft and heresy.

Eschewing the current trends, Bann’s work here is polished and unafraid of melody; yet it manages to retain as certain sorrow and a depressive edge that is sure to satisfy many fans of Black Metal.
