The GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP review by http://www.rock-metal-essence.com

Image

By James Mezzano

36 minutes of dark death metal slow-time, semi-acoustic with flashes of great intensity. Can be summarized as It All Fades , album number two Swedes The Gardnerz , published in 2012 by the label Abyss Records .

Music that has the important quality to immerse the listener in a sort of parallel universe (perfectly portrayed in my imagination within the bell'artwork that surrounds the album), especially thanks to its almost progressive rock interludes and very original for this kind of music. For the rest, between high (the opening track Do not Look Back ) and low (the cover of Darkthrone in Transilvanian Hunger is not bad but it seems a remake of 'Dust in the Wind' of Kansas), the blade runs very well but, paradoxically, continues to fascinate with its more acoustic moments with outbursts that death / doom, which still look pretty ordinary. Browse around the frequent presence of a female voice, which plots the disk almost Gothic. Overall the band has no major demerits, and level of technique looks good of course, but perhaps still a need for more work on the songwriting, which ranges between steps really super and others a little 'subdued. The growl of Niclas Ankarbranth is awestruck, absolutely scathing and fierce, but loses intensity in the most'' sung'' and less screaming. Beautiful sound of guitars Wilhelm Lindh , gifted musician who sports a rather inspired riffing and handsome, and talented drummer Vedran Bencic to manage the constant changes of time that this music requires. Finally, praise their bassist Francisco Martín , who manages to raise a good wall of sound and depth to give an important passages doom of this publication. But the feeling is that, despite the average success of It All Fades , The Gardnerz can really do even more ..

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by Altered Frequencies

Image

By harleytexas

Some Swedish death metal? I looked at my wife and joked about Sweden and the amount of death metal bands from there and I thought, “Here we go”, but this was one of the better bands that I’ve heard from there.

The band kicks ass, some awesome playing, throbbing bass, pounding drums without the cheesy tap, tap, tap noise of the double bass from most bands, some great guitar work and “heaven” forbid, and a vocalist that can be understood. This second album by DAEMONICUS has some great production work, clear and not too polished, just a great job to bring out the anger and power from this band. The band has some thrash and metal mixed in the way that they play, which really added a lot to this album. ”The Grandeur of Total Termination” and “We Feast On Your Flesh” are some heavy-hitting songs that I played a few times to get the full effect of the band’s power.

Some great speed, great guitar leads push this into another level that really turned this into a keeper and one that will be played a lot by me. I couldn’t recommend this album more.

The GATES OF SLUMBER (U.S.) "...the Awakening" CD review by Altered Frequencies

Image

By harleytexas

This is a re-release of their out of print first album from back in 2006 with an added bonus song by this doom metal band from Indianapolis.

It starts off with a cool intro which sets the mood of the album and then the first song begins, slow almost creeping in its heaviness. The album creeps by like watching molasses flow uphill in winter, not fast at all, except for two songs which the band picks up the pace and for them, lets loose. Those were the two songs that I liked the most, the BLACK SABBATH worshipping was a bit much for a whole album, the slowness just got to me after a while and I needed something a bit peppier. As a doom metal band, they are pretty good, the singing and playing are really well done, you can hear the talent that they have, but as a first album, you hope that they would leave behind the SABBATH and move into their own style on later releases.

I did enjoy the album and would recommend it if you are a doom fan, it would be a good purchase, I just wanted a bit more speed, but that’s what happens when you listen to doom.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by http://www.vs-webzine.com

Image

By ZeSnake

Duffer, behold, Abyss Records is FDA Rekotz or Razorback! By signing this Swedish group, the American label is betting that others have done before them, namely bet on a group of old-school Death "classic" but who knows do the job. The lucky winner is daemonicus, already existing since 2006 and author of an album in 2009 ( Host Of Rotting Flesh ). Deadwork is the name of the second album from this quintet of Umeå. Because yes, daemonicus is not a German or an exotic country, is a Swedish band that makes true Swedish Death, dirty and groovy, with a thematic focus zombies / horror and anti-religion, and zicos daubed in blood on the promo pictures. A program somewhat exceptional in absolute terms but this kind of old-school Death Thrash seems to be the 21st century: it's always the same thing, but as it sends and c ' is played, it goes ... daemonicus arises as just another offshoot of ENTOMBED and DISMEMBER, like a ENTRAILS example. Revival of pure 90's Swedish Death will appeal to a string of lovers, well emphasized by its very modern and very powerful (even if there is no need to cite a studio or a famous producer). 10 tracks, 43 minutes of Death gras buck guitars, mid-tempo with very heavy and singing zombie, this menu Deadwork . From there, I do not think it is useful to add much, except to point out a few pieces that charcutent well as the more melodic "The Grandeur of Total Termination" and "We Feast On Your Flesh, "crushing" Form Alive Dead to Life, "and the excellent" Nothing But Death "and" Blood Red November (MDXX) "in the end incredible. And Deadwork is still an album that knows how to stomp when must. Good style has been revised and corrected, and even though the second album daemonicus had its effect on the first listen, you get tired quickly the time you get used to the genre, and some redundancies appear. But it is obviously necessary to put all that aside and let it go crazy in the effectiveness of Swedish Death to appreciate Deadwork at fair value. Daemonicus is not the group of Swedish Death century, but delivers a good album of its kind, but it is no longer sufficient. It remains only to lovers suédoiseries a try to see if Deadwork deserves to return to their shelf CDs alongside other names revival Swedish Death.

ROCKING CORPSES (Finland) "Rock 'n' Rott" CD review by Heavy Metal Tribune

Image

By Hong Rui

Every once in awhile surprises spring forth in the often overly serious metal circle, poking fun at and parodying the aesthetics and attitudes that are prevalent within the genre. Finland’s Rocking Corpses, evidently, is one such band, with their over the top emphasis on themes of gore and horror in their music on their debut full length album, Rock N’ Rott.
The listener is greeted with a haunting sound sample on opening track Into the Grave, and the horror theme that the band has put in their music is immediately evident. And as the introductory track fades into the first proper track Up from the Grave, one is smouldered by the thick and heavy groovy riffs of Tony, while a contrasting standard rock-beat is played at the background on the drums, and the unique musical approach of Rocking Corpses is now clearly heard. For example, there is the vocal style of the band, with verses that are growled out in a typical death metal fashion while choruses are often catchy and sung out in clean vocals. There is also the lead guitar playing style of Tony, often displaying a very blues-rock influence, and this definitely gives Rocking Corpses a fresh sound compared to their other death metal peers.
Throughout the album, the wide range of influences that the band has put into their music are explored, and these often not only test the band’s ability as musicians, but also as songwriters as well as they attempt to fuse elements from genres not related to death metal into their basic foundation of death metal and blues-inspired rock and roll. For example, Necropolis contains sections that are pure hard rock that are placed between heavy death metal segments, and For Better for Worse even includes an intense, almost thrash metal-sounding intro segment. Fortunately, for the most part, the band manages to do so in a way that does not sound awkward or affect the entertainment quality of their music. The themes of gore that the band glorifies in their music is also upheld with moments such as on Life for a Life with the sound samples at the background, sounding like a mindless zombie feasting on what’s left of a corpse.
Unfortunately, it is also this inclusion of the diverse range of influences that is the downfall of Rocking Corpses. While the idea of including elements from various rock and metal subgenres could be a good idea, there are moments on the album where potentially brilliant ideas are not fully explored with the band’s obsession with including as many influences as possible, or the sudden switching of style just as things start to sound good. 925 even sounds like a standard, uninspired, radio-friendly hard rock song and does not fully display the talent that the duo have, and would easily put off metal purists.
That said though, despite its debatable genre classification, Rocking Corpses‘ Rock N’ Rott is an extremely fun album to listen to – not only because of their gore themes, but the fun attitude of the band towards their music is easily heard on the album. The music here is catchy as hell, and as the album progresses, one can’t help but find himself humming along to the tunes.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) "Composition of Flesh" CD review by Lacerated Thrash Metal

Image

By LaceratedArthalos

Flesh, flesh, flesh. What a wonderful thing it is. Flesh, gore, and blood are things that have been manipulated countless times in the metal universe, and little surprise there; it's one element that simply wants to be grasped by scores of bands. Especially when the matter is Swedish death metal, and when bands can't find anything to talk about other than ghouls and zombies, vivisection, dissection and butchering seem like very appealing lyrical subjects, and whether you're bored of the same gore laden lyrics or not, let's admit it, the plasma creature with numerous flesh webs sticking out of its bodice is a pretty cool armament for Swedish slaughterers to use to boast their mighty heavy churning of old school Swedeath. It's another Swedish band, another list of blood-dripping caustic songs, so I ask you, what the hell is special about Corrosive Carcass and their brand of infinitely duplicated Swedish styled death metal? Nothing, if truth be told, but besides a few bands, this is the best imitation I've heard all year, and I'm aplomb that you'll find the scathing turbulence of the music pleasuring, if not wholly convincing.

This seriously is a complete composition of Dismember/Entombed worshiping, but then again, what band that engrossed the similar chainsaw textures didn't gimmick? Sure, there's been bands that added a twist of melody there and a hint of black here to prove to be more efficient and more original, but once you have such a cunning barrage of corpse-mangling, buzz laden violence, one can only care. Something that restores the energy here is definitely the length of the songs. Almost each song is as fast as a grindcore piece and as rambunctious as spiking thrash attack, and the intensity serves as a viable instrument to behold and set loose the immense plethora of fury driven riffs that reek of old school, and of course, flesh. Even the track titles seem as if they were written by some mad butcher, or some serial killer, as the album bears titles like ''Chainsaw Dissection'', ''Twist Of Knife'', ''Butchershop'' or ''The Flesh Is Not Enough'' which are so obsessed with murder and flesh that they seem more laughable rather than taken seriously. Over the thirteen songs on the album, only a couple of tracks show slight variation with different pacing of a few elements to garnish to the aura of the record, but as a whole, you'll find nothing but pure crushing insanity and horror obsessed death metal monstrosity.

''Collector'' has to be one of the more efficient tracks on the record, dealing twice as much pain as any with its near five minute length and sheer force that comes untouched, and some distinct aspects hidden in the brief clean guitar medley near the end. ''Composition Of Flesh'' is vulgar and abrupt in every matter, but that doesn't stop it from attaining a decent level of musicianship throughout, as I find the mass explosion of crunchy riffs to be as stamina draining as they are shattering, and the subtle melodies to be well composed and well placed among the other riffs. Yes, the path of the flesh is set, and set well I would say, but now, it's totally up to the tissues that form it to either thrive it further, or drown and distort it with their rancorous vibrations. And this album remains as one of the numerous pieces that are linked together in the formation of the flesh, and a robust piece at that.

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP review by http://www.funeralwedding.com

Image

By funeralwedding

New material known to those Swedes The Gardnerz. Following the same proposal the first cd, or 50% death, 50% doom.
Do not Look Back opens this cd as a rock old school death, some slower passages and even some vocalizations more "clean" are found in the band and to a certain "groove", but what prevails is the rot in good meaning is clear.
A Horrible Disease has taken more doom, found some vocal "throaty mezzo" which reminds us Sentenced in its middle phase.
A detail is unhealthy for the part where we find the vocal folds that were very interesting ... "Speak, Hear, Fear this false king" .
And another detail is to the guitar solos, which were well constructed metrically, showing that guitarist Wilhelm did his homework.
Now tell me what is this cover for Transilvanian Hunger Dark Throne? A version acútisca and that includes the participation of Paulina Strihavka, and that was great that way and at least different from the version esporrenta masters of raw black metal.
After the lull of the previous track, back to old school death with It All Fades , which also has some backing vocals of Paulina, giving a sinister mood to the music. The strength of Niclas guttural guitars mark and weight of this age, beyond that of traditional soil death bands of the 90s.
Melatonin follows a line more doom and rhythmic variations are well built. Ranging from heavy guitars and clean guitars are accompanied by drum casings that give a touch to her introspective.
And we have to quit Erasing Bad Specimen following as a continuation of the previous track, this has a certain groove and even some clean vocals are encontadas and very nice result.
It is worth mentioning here the kitchen very cohesive composed by Francisco Martin and the new drummer Vedran Bencic.
Contact the banda and get this new material because worth every penny invested.

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) "Stillbirth" CD review by Battle Helm

Image

By Anders Ekdahl

I’ve been waiting for this album for a while now. My expectations are quite high that this Swedish band will deliver a monolith of a death metal album. That this will be the ball breaker I’ve been waiting for. And what a ball breaker it is. From the word go this is a rollercoaster ride that only goes down. You’re taken on a ride that will have you gasping for air all the way. This is blasting death metal that takes no prisoners. It only leaves victims in its trail. Join the ride or end up maimed and dismembered. A full on blast that will leave you sweaty and tired, and that is just from the first ride. There are 8 more to go before you reach the end of the line. Who needs expensive diet courses when you have Fetus Stench to burn off all that excessive fat?

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by http://www.hardcity.gr

Image

By Hardcity

It needs a huge inspiration to create an album that after so many years are able the classic 90s Death sound to be sounded so fresh and original convincing you that you're dealing with something new. It sounds a bit oxymoron, doesn’t it? However, it is, but in the case of DAEMONICUS is something completely normal!

The element that makes the sound of 90s sounds so natural and authentic after two decades of life, is the fact that they manage to narrow the rawness of the sound by adding some new elements into their music from the nowadays genre.

These three Swedish guys manage to revive the old and authentic sound of the 90s through their second full-length album that will make you be amazed by the excruciating mid-tempo, original death-metal sounds.

What primarily excite the listener of Deadwork are its unique riffs. The duo of PO Wester and Jörgen Persson is explosive and on this album, their performance surpasses the limits of imagination. Majestically standing on DAEMONICUS’ compositions are giving us some great riffs through songs such as “The Grandeur of Total Termination,” “We Feast on Your Flesh” and my own favorite “Blood Red November.”

Johan Hallbäck is remarkable for the numerous rhythm breaks, his incessant energy and creates an excellent mix of techniques that gives to his work an irresistible charm. If we add the marvelous work that Martin Pudas done on bass, we understand that the rhythm section of Deadwork is truly astonishing.

The new album of DAEMONICUS will fascinate you. It is one step below in rawness compares to the album of 90s, but the technique of the band members coming into proper dose, creating one of the best death-metal albums for 2012. It’s an essential album to any fan of the genre, new and old.

MAAX (U.S.) "Unholy Rock & Roll" DIGI CD review by Twisted_Psychology

Image

By Twisted_Psychology

When the subject of black metal is discussed, there are specific stereotypes and tropes that are sure to come up just about every time. Even when looking past the various crimes that were committed by the genre’s more infamous adherents, one is likely to call forth images of corpse-painted faces and hypnotic song structures aided by lo-fi production. Maax seems to be one exception to that rule as they have disregarded the modern standards and opt for a more primal approach. While this is their second studio album, it happens to be their third release overall as they previously put out the Dawnbringer full-length in 2009 and the Six Pack Witchcraft EP in 2010.

Several listeners have tried to place Maax somewhere on the line between blackened thrash and death ‘n’ roll (The more you think about it, the more you realize how ridiculous the names of metal subgenres are these days), but their overall sound doesn’t seem to be too far off from what Venom was pioneering in the early 80s. This influence is best demonstrated on “Do What Thou Wilt,” an upbeat anthem that feels like a modern version of the classic “Welcome To Hell.” But while Cronos and his merry bunch may be the leading influence on this group, it’s not the only one to be found on here. One can find clear references to punk, thrash, black metal, and even some classic Motorhead here and there. Fortunately all of these elements work well with one another, reminding one of how most of them had their roots in a singular dirty force.

Speaking of dirty, this album is also made distinct by its production. In a way similar to “Six Pack Witchcraft,” the production is incredibly raw and helps give the album a very live feel that works in its favor. The band itself doesn’t sound as distant as it did on the EP, but there is still a great deal of chaos and intensity to work with. Speaking of the band, they generally put on some good performances though there’s nothing particularly mind-blowing on display. The production aids the guitar playing and drums, making them both sound quite filthy throughout. In addition, the vocals are delivered in a raspy, mid-range bark that makes one wonder if they should be cleaner or harsher. Either way, they carry the songs well and show off a lot of energy.

In terms of how the songs themselves play out, Unholy Rock & Roll is somewhere between the two releases that came out before it. While the songwriting is generally more elaborate than Six Pack Witchcraft and has lengths similar to Dawnbringer, the songs are mostly executed in a very direct, upbeat fashion. In addition to the Venom worship on “Do What Thou Wilt,” “Rot ‘N’ Roll” and the title track are by far the strongest tracks that this release has to offer. Not only are the riffs catchy, but they also throw in some solid gang vocals during the choruses that do a lot to benefit the barroom atmosphere.

The opening tracks known as “Coldest Steel” and “Fight With Fire” are also worth noting for they show off a nice touch of early 80s thrash influence. While this does lead to the tracks having introductions that are respectively similar to Metallica’s “Hit the Lights” and Slayer’s “Angel Of Death,” they quickly become their own tracks with the latter featuring a particularly pounding hook.

Of course, there are a few outliers that move away from the album’s largely rock-oriented nature. The interestingly titled “Purge of Depravity 2: The Pentagram” is a two minute interlude meant to serve as a melodic break from the violence while “Overthrone” seems to take cues from the band’s purer black metal roots. They might not be the most immediate tracks on here but they are still pretty solid in their more dramatic nature.

As any musician will tell you, it is a nearly impossible task to capture the energy of a band’s live sound onto an actual studio release. However, Maax does manage to come pretty damn close to achieving this feat though they may still have a bit more work in terms of their songwriting skill. But for what it’s worth, this may be their most enjoyable album to date and one of the most fun releases that 2011 has to offer. This isn’t a deep album by any stretch of the imagination, but rather one that’s meant to be blared in hopes of pissing off your neighbors. And judging by the lack of complaints that I’ve gotten from mine, I either have really awesome neighbors or just need to make it louder…

Current Highlights:
“Fight With Fire”
“Unholy Rock & Roll”
“Do What Thou Wilt”
“Rot ‘N’ Roll”
"Black Thrash 'em All"

SOUTHWICKED (U.S. / Europe) "Death's Crown" CD review by http://www.voicesfromthedarkside.de

Image

By Nat Shapiro

The good old dirty south; America’s very own backyard of double standards: zealous Christianity on the surface, and a vibrant, sometimes violent but always debauched underbelly. From this underworld came bands like OBITUARY, MASSACRE, DEICIDE, etc. But while those bands were from the south, none of them announced their geographic origins. American bands as a whole never really hopped on the geography bandwagon - typically Norwegian Black Metal bands promoted their origins that way. True, there’s nothing specific about SOUTHWICKED. They could come from any number of southern cities. But they’re an American Death Metal band and I think, obviously, they have the south in mind when they write. If you like OBITUARY, you’ll dig this release. Allen West lets his guitar sing and it sounds great. But, good as this is, one could easily call it a forgotten OBITUARY album. Songs like the title track, ‘Death’s Crown’ and ‘Craving For Blood’ will induce the headbanging response, yet they will also leave you thinking about “The End Complete” and “Cause Of Death” and how West’s solos on this album sound so much like his older work. In addition to the inescapable OBITUARY element, some signs of SIX FEET UNDER appear, such as ‘Killing Spree’, which sounds like a left over song from the “Haunted” sessions. However, OBITUARY’s presence dominates nearly every aspect of this album. Just listen to ‘Graveyard Of Bones’ and you’ll see what I mean. So, if you’re a fan of Allen West, OBITUARY, and early SIX FEET UNDER, you’ll most certainly enjoy this. I know I did. http://www.facebook.com/southwicked, http://www.officialabyssrecords.com

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP review by http://www.thebreathlesssleep.com

Image

By Paul

It may sound like a cliché, but It All Fades , the last work of Swedes The Gardnerz , not a disc to use Death and Doom Metal, and surely never intended to be. The hardness and heaviness that could be expected from such extreme intermingling genres are shared equally with the progressive metal innumerable passages that appear throughout these 36 minutes of material.

"Mixing slow and heavy distorted riffs with melodies and clean, try to create our own kind of Metal. Taking influences from the musical spectrum, but maintaining a solid base of Metal. " This band defines the sound of his latest work, the second since the band was formed in Sweden in 2008. It is in this 2012 when the U.S. company based in Indiana Abyss Records , decided to produce this short form consists of six topics that might involve an advance on your musical style next predictable length, its resumed The System Of Nature 2011.

With respect to the current disc All Fades It is anything but simple and repetitive work. This is evident especially with the work that has been carried out on guitars, where in topics assigned to open the album, Do not Look Back and A Horrible Disease , they are responsible for carrying the weight of the progression of the and songs that introduce the most progressive of those who spoke before, surprising and giving a more drawn to the sound of the band. One example is unclear what course the cut A Horrible Disease , with excellent guitar work by the Wilhelm Lindh in using clean guitars that arpeggiated melodies evocative. As a perfect accompaniment to this dual character that the Swedes give the guitars on this record, is the versatility of vocalist Niclas Ankarbranth , who also splits his work between scraped and guttural voices, with paragraphs that just sounds more cleanly . These aspects are not random and are clearly intended by the band to create a versatile sound. Like two sides of the same coin.

After these first two issues, we come to Ecuador's EP with what is undoubtedly one of the great surprises and successes of the disc. At the tail of the second cut will happen the first notes of the next, until the beautiful voice of singer Paulina Strihavka utters the words "Transilvanian Hunger" . So, would that have an extremely trained ear and why not throw a lot of imagination to identify this with the depths of black metal that Darkthrone boasted such a mid-nineties. Cuesta get an idea of what would happen in the minds of these four Swedes to be decided at the classic versioning this way, and also give a result most perfect. Imagine the same melody, the same poetic lyrics, but Borrad of your mind anything metal end and leave only a female voice accompanied by two electric guitars with a totally clean sound: as a result will have this wonderful version. In this tribute, of course crucial participation of singer Paulina Strihavka, who also works on the title track to the album, and with his sultry voice gets colder fall for the moors and gloomy obscurantism. Topic that deserves a review on its own, but I will conclude by saying that the Hunger Transilvanian The Gardnerz is a very intelligent majestic turns of the screw to classic one of the major figures of the Norwegian black.

After this parenthesis returns the standard pattern of the eponymous album It All Fades , that occurs with heavy and forceful tone. Again we Strihavka Paulina's voice, this time to the chorus. With his operatic singing style gives the gothic touch to the subject, without neglecting the base course Doom.

The last two cuts, Melatonin and Erasing Bad Specimen , help me to focus on paragraph lyrical EP, whose theme revolves around philosophical questions of human beings, the lifestyle we lead, and the establishment of religion as a power dictatorship that has been manipulated by man since the beginning in order to control the nature of human beings. As an example, the second paragraph of A Horrible Disease, which reads as follows: " A long gone now teaching / learning Raped By A greedy men / Who now uses it for Their Own sick / And distored needs ".

Perhaps, if I had to sum ??up the feelings that leave this It All Fades with a single image, choose their own album cover, which has been borne by Daniel "Devilish" Johnsson (Malfeitor, Daemonicus). Not for originality, since it is still a cover to which we are accustomed, but the sinister background with the remains of what looks like a civilization doomed to disaster, alongside a landscape that is beautiful in my opinion. A contrast to the hair that comes to define the sound of the album, a mixture of toughness and beauty at a time, with spaces that explore deeper and darker territories of Death / Doom but leaving a loophole to hope.

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by Rocka Rolla Zine

Image

By Javier Salaverry

With almost ten years of existence, Eternal Helcaraxe launches its length debut, "Against all odds" under seal Abyss Records. This Irish quartet (Praetorian on guitar and vocals, Maulgrim on guitar, Thule on bass, and Tyrith on drums), released in 2008 their first demo ("palestine kingdom"), and in 2010 their first EP ("To whatever end") and then reach a contract with the mentioned label. Eternal Helcaraxe defines his music as "epic black metal," right definition if we stick with dark topics the band is hermetic in his lyrics, full of references to paganism and Celtic myths, and the merely instruments proposed by the quartet. A first hearing, it is possible to differentiate some influences from Immortal and Battory mainly by the tendency to structure the songs on the basis of fast riffs, complex and convoluted, but in any case difficult to encapsulate because Eternal Helcaraxe not afraid to venture to land more melodic and bombastic, and this was compounded by the almost operatic variants lyrical passages, mainly by the performance of Praetorian vocalist, who at times sings in a clear and melodic, then become brutal and aggressive . There is no denying the technical capacity of these Irish, who in addition to the above, manage for adding the album a touch of accessibility suggestive and attractive, but without losing his aggressiveness. Gentlemen, the black metal is not my favorite styles, but "Against All Odds" won the 50 minutes that were not enough hard disk. Recommended.

ROCKING CORPSES (Finland) "Rock 'n' Rott" CD review by http://www.metalhead.it

Image

By Alberto Vitale

I stop to look at the cover of this album. It will be old style death metal or brutal death metal? Rocking Corpses? Never heard of them! The title of the album is "Rock 'n Roll"? Then something is wrong. I put the album into the player and pressed the play. There is a chant, a hymn funeral Finnish and the roar of the rain. Bah, titled "Into the Grave". Following "Up from the Grave." Damn, died and resurrected? Aah, now I understand perhaps the band's name, album, and I discover later, the images inside the booklet. Here you have to deal with issues zombies. There is a growling voice, dark and evil, but there is also sung in a clean, which is nice. E 'followed by a southern-doom metal sound, with a nice solo included. Okay, so these are Rocking Corpses death 'n roll and anything southern, rock and doom. Moreover, the rock is in the title and there is also the next song. Carina "For Better for Worse" is frantic, almost punkeggiante. There is always a double voice, growl and clean together. The solos are always well made and executed to capture the attention. Are melodic. There is still doom 'n roll and then "Life for a Life," which seems the Mercyful Fate seen in a less serious. Pretty. "925" is the Galaxy! A hymn hard rock zombies! In fact, talking about them and with the usual irony. Probably the transmit repeatedly on radio, sooner or later. "Rocking Corpses" is a wild beast that runs through the desert, but "In the Dead of Night" is even more southern, less punk than the last, and is a stoner in disguise, but the best is given in "Necrophiliacs." A grim song because explicit, sensual (obviously) but cheeky and cheerful because of clean vocals on speed. "Dead End", reminds me of Metallica's "Garage Days". There's something rotten here. There is the stench of death, but also alcohol and unleash all this were Tony DK (Growl voice and guitars), Leper Laze (clean vocals and bass) and Vile (drummer and graphic artist). "Rock 'n Roll" turns to a thousand, the listening time flies frantic and pump energy because at the root of it all is the rock, or perhaps rock' n rott, as these Finnish define it.

Thrash metal is considered to be some of the fastest, meanest, and aggressive styles of metal out there. Its sole purpose is to wreck your fucking neck. That is exactly what Entrench managed to do with the release of their debut album "Inevitable Decay". Coming out of Västerås, Sweden, Entrench is as aggressive and relentless as the thrash gods of old. Many of the newer thrash bands sound too generic and weak, yet Entrench manages to keep the same level of ferocity the likes of Kreator circa "Pleasure to Kill" and Slayer's "Show no Mercy".

The album is an eight track thrashfest from start to finish. Songs like "As Dawn Breaks" and "Doubt What's Left" are chaotic tracks that have reverb filled aggressive vocals and speedy riffs with lots of fast picking. I even heard some Sodom and Possessed influences in these songs. Another cool thing about this album is that the songs are lengthy and very rarely does it sound repetitive. The creepiness of some of the riffs really set the mood right before it kicks you in the face with speed; it's a great mixture.

The album cover isn't an intricate piece of art or anything, but it flows and it looks like it belongs with the record. It gives off a very "old school" feeling; Back to the day when many bands just didn't have the money or means to have a masterpiece for an album cover. Entrench kept it true with this one. It's a town in ruins with a fire in the middle of it and no trace of life anywhere; "Inevitable Decay" indeed.

Overall, I enjoyed listening to this album. It took me back to a time when thrash was real. It's fast, it's loud, it's mean, and it fucking rules. It isn't anything new or anything that hasn't been done before, but Entrench does it very well. It is a very good buy for fans of Kreator/Sodom/Possessed style of thrash. I hope these guys stick around for a long time.

DEAD AWAKEN (Sweden) Interview by Agathokakological Webzine

Image

By Agathokakological Webzine

1. Hello and who is this from Dead Awaken?

Hi!

This is Jörgen, guitarist and vocalist of Dead Awaken.

2. The band formed in 2002 could you please give us a BRIEF history?

If we avoid all the personell change stories....

The band started out as a 5 piece, playing thrash with death influences.

With time, our style evolved more and more towards death metal.

Through several line up changes we've changed from a 5 piece, to a 4 piece to a 3 piece.

Back to being a 4 piece and back to 3 again.

We've stuck with being a 3 piece with me as the single guitarist and vocalist,

Mats "Masse" Blückert on drums and a couple of session bass players, that we alternate between.

We signed to Abyss records and are currently awaiting the release of our debut album and a local gig to celebrate the album release.

3. Tell us about some shows and gigs you guys have done, do you get out on the road much or do you mostly play local shows?

Unfortunately, mostly local shows.

No gigs abroad yet, but we hope that will change.

We've done cool shows with several great and bigger bands, like Entombed, Vomitory, Behemoth and Aborted.

4. I see you are about to release your debut album but you have been a band since 2002. I have to say that sticking with something so long shows a great deal of dedication and patience. Tell the readers a little about how you have kept the band going for all this time and how it feels now to finally get an official release out.

I'm just a stubborn bastard, I guess.

Quitting really never was an option.

I think it's important to remain true to yourselves.

Be honest in the music you write and you encrease your chances to last.

Feels great to finally release an album!

5. What are your lyrical concepts, do you stick to kind of the same themes?

From day one, it was war.

As I write all the lyrics these days, I feel ther's time for a bit of a change.

After all, a few of my fave bands focus on war as a theme.

Out of respect for bands like Bolt Thrower, Vomitory and Hail of bullets,

It's time to take a step away from the subject.

Current lyrical topics deal with the dark sides of the mind.

Grief, psychosis, fear, etc.

Very interesting to dig into the human mind.

6. Tell us about the recording of your debut album.

It was recorded by our friend Dennis, who's the guitarist in a band called Seventribe.

He built a small studio where the band practises, a comfortable environment for us to work in.

It kept me busy for a while, as I played everything but drums.

7. Although you haven't had an official release until now, I see that you released a handful of demos over the years, are any of these titles available to purchase anywhere? Is any of the material from the demos used on the new album?

Most of the songs on the album are originally on old demo's.

The demo material is not really available, I have them laying around somewhere.

We focus more on the future.

8. Who is in the line up now?

Ooops, seems like I answered that in question #2! XD

Me on guitar and vocals.

Mats Blückert on drums.

A couple of session bass player, who jump in when needed.( Magnus Wall/ Jonas Stålhammar)

9. What can people expect when the go to a Dead Awaken show? Do you have any shows coming up that you would like to mention?

Intensity. We're very focused.

We have a lot of fun performing live and that shows.

We're dead serious about our music, but a big smile behind the mike is not unusual.

10. Thank you for the interview, any closing words thoughts, information on contacting the band or where to get your merchandise.

Please check our music out, buy the cd!

Keep supporting extreme music.

We don't currently have a webstore, so the best way to get our merch is at our shows.

New tshirts are currently on the way.

Contact us at [email protected] and we'll get you he merch.

Thanks!

ENTRENCH (Sweden) "Inevitable Decay" CD review by http://www.volumesofsin.com

Image

By Villi Thorne

Entrench are a Swedish thrash metal group that formed in 2005. Since the release of their debut full-length album Inevitable Decay in 2011, the group have been gaining a steady incline of attention in the pits of the underground. What does this debut album have to offer, and how does it stack up in the thrash metal world in general?

When taking a look at the physical album itself, there is a clear and defined 1980's style tied into the packaging, which was done by Joel Sundin. If one didn't have any prior knowledge of Entrench it would be easy to assume that this CD was released thirty years ago... and this feature only enhances the genuine lo-fi production present in the content itself. The vocals are encompassed in a very mild echo, the drums are raw and gritty, and the guitars are slightly muffled. These features combined make for a great old school thrash experience, however it seems to be found more commonly in material within the past few years as somewhat of a wave of classic thrash revival. The mixing is flawlessly consistent and keeps the drums pressed to the back of the material, while the rhythm and lead guitars sit ontop of one another, the lead guitar slightly more dominate, and the bass is barely audible which is commonplace in the thrash genre.

The vocals are the most prominent track throughout the content, and they are very passionate and aggressive. It's clear to hear that the vocalist, Fredrik Pellbrink, believes in his message and presses to convey it to the listener using tormented growls and screams in well placed areas and an overall agonized tone. It's also fresh to hear some thrash that doesn't center itself around one or two lyrical themes and instead diversifies itself. At times, the vocal style can come off as more death metal inspired rather than thrash and is reminiscent of what would be found in classic material of the genre, this gives the overall album a slight death metal undertone. Another contributing factor to this undertone would be the drumming which sticks mostly to heavy one-two blast beats, sometimes throwing in hi-hat crashes for variance. The drums work in sync with the rhythm guitar to help keep the material heavy since the bass is hardly present.

The first two tracks, "As Dawn Breaks" and "Debt of Sorrow", start Inevitable Decay off to a frenzied beginning and the content only continues to heat up from there. "Doubt What's Left" is as fast as it gets on this album, and it's enough to send the listeners' head spinning with a fantastic flurry of inhumanly accelerated riffs and powerful blast beats that pierce through the background. This track shows just what Entrench are capable of in terms of audible velocity and at the same time they manage to keep a tight and fluid structure. "Into Oblivion", "Doubt What's Left", "Where Only Ruins Remain" and "Portrait of a Phobia" are the more noteworthy tracks given. "Portrait of a Phobia" sets a very creepy and dark atmosphere with an slow, eerie, high string lead intro that gets backed up by a slow, chugging rhythm riff. Gradually the two guitars merge into the same riff, the lead playing slightly higher than the rhythm. The slower style of this track helps to contrast against the two ear igniting tracks that come before it, however the song doesn't stay slow for long. Instead of simply exploding into unholy pandemonium, it ramps itself up gradually until you go from casually nodding your head and air drumming the beats to windmilling with chaotic frenzy by the time the solo erupts and the song begins fading out. Too bad though, it would've been great to get another 10-20 seconds of that tasty solo that ends the song on a cliff hanger.

The lead guitar is strong throughout the eight tracks present and sets most of the hooks, which are incredibly catchy. The steady, more often than not palm muted, backing rhythm guitar provides a heavy and dependable foundation that allows the lead guitar to branch out into innovative one-string benders which are abundant throughout the song compositions. The compositions themselves are fairly uniform, and it's good to hear thrash that actually has an underlying structure which often brings the song full circle in a verse-chorus-verse kind of way, without always having the same vocal verse-chorus-verse structure. Sprinkled over these structures are various solos, all of which are unique and done tastefully with fluid skill. The only issue with the guitars are that they share the same tone. Given the choice of classic production values, there would be more depth provided if the guitar tones varied more than they do. Often, it isn't the tone of the two guitars that change and is rather that the lead guitar plays a few frets higher than the rhythm guitar, or on a higher string variance of the same chord.

Going back to the physical look of the album, the artwork is creepy and desolate, augmented with little bones and skulls in the fire in the center of the art piece. It isn't until the last track, "Where Only Ruins Remain", that it's clear the artwork depicts a visual based off of the lyrics from that particular song. This is a nicely added touch that brings more life to the audible content, a trait too often lost in a lot of recent release.

Overall, Entrench have released a powerful debut album with an authentic old-school vibe, both physically and audibly. The leads will embed themselves into the listeners' psyche and the consistent structure of the material keeps everything flowing smoothly. The lyrics tell many stories that are worth paying attention to and deserve an in-depth listen and/or read through. The solos are fast, electrifying and intense. Inevitable Decay is highly recommended, especially for those looking for newer material with a good classic touch to it that doesn't feel forced or gimmicky. You can pick the album up from Abyss Records for only $10.00.

BANE (Serbia) "The Acausal Fire" DIGI CD review by http://www.metal-observer.com

Image

By Shawn

BANE's second full length album, “The Acausal Fire”, was released in 2012, just slightly before the band was placed on hold. The listener is first greeted by a brooding orchestral piece, “Bringing Forth The Endless Dark Aeon”, and it's easy to be lulled into a complacent state. After nearly three minutes of dark, yet easy listening orchestration, this Serbian Black / Death act truly comes forth with the first notes of “The End Of Humanity”. Lightning fast blast beats and blazing trem lines burst forth with a heavier than thou attitude that continues for just about the entire forty minute run time.

This is a fast and heavy album, as the speed and intensity brought out on “The End Of Humanity” continues, but the entire album isn't just blast beats and trem picking as some section show a winding, minor key guitar passage a la MARDUK. During these “slower” (but no less heavy) the drums stay fast with double kicks and thunderous rolls and fills. BANE's strongest point is actually when the heaviness begins to stagnate and they ease the burden with some softer elements, such as the acoustic passage at the end of “In Endless Silence” or the traditionally inspired lead lines during “World Of Desolation” and “Existence In Denial”. For the most part the vocals are a deep, raspy style with occasional higher pitches shouts that are no less raspy. A few times show a clean, chanted style of vocals, which, while extremely unexpected with such a blazing album, seem to flow in and out with ease. Even while the clean vocals are present, the music remains fast and vicious, which is an excellent counterpoint and change of pace.

The production is crisp and clear; especially so for Black Metal. Every guitar note is audible, the bass is thick and carries the low end while staying to rear of the mix and the drums are thunderous without detracting from the rest of the music. The bass drum is loud enough to hear each double bass run without straining but the loud and popping snare drum could be turned down a bit. The vocals are to the forefront, but like the drums, don't take away from the instruments. The cleaner vocals are a little higher in the mix than the standard vocals and can be a little grating at times, but they're fairly infrequent, so it's not a huge issue. The clean production makes this no less heavy or dark, but those looking for basement Black Metal will be turned off by the polish present.

“The Acausal Fire” is a very fast and heavy album which should please fans of polished Black Death Metal. While this is not an original album by any stretch of the imagination, BANE throws enough changes into the pace to keep things interesting. Like I mentioned, when the music borders on stagnation, BANE throws a curve ball and suck you right back in. Fast trem lines, fast blast beats and vicious vocals, with a few unexpected twists and turns: if that sounds good to you, then by all means check this out.

The GATES OF SLUMBER (U.S.) "...the Awakening" CD review by Aristocrazia Webzine

Image

By Mourning

Reprints have become more than ever a craze? It just seems to me that in recent years is enormous and at times unwarranted use such a means to give birth to anything? Like all decisions in life, also bring back a disc should have its own why. Sometimes, however, see album insignificant, regardless of personal preference, or left a few months before put back into circulation in formats ultra luxury - then substantial additions often have little or nothing - quite irritating.
It is also true that if certain operations do not exist Many would not be able to get hold of various beads, some for personal reasons or just for the misfortune of not having had the time to retrieve a record produced even in limited edition.
gems of writing reborn, the Abyss Records provides the its contribution, giving new life to the first album of The Gates Of Slumber, now a veteran of the band in Indianapolis doom scene.
The three decades of career paths far from the trio led by guitarist and vocalist Karl Simon had as the first turning point of the publication debut "... The Awakening", arrived after giving birth to three demo.
The sound of the formation at the time completed by Jason McCash on bass and drummer Chuck Brown (the latter is no longer in line-up, the drums now there is Iron Bob Fouts), is a great blend of Black Sabbath Ozzy period, Saint Vitus, references to the epic and dark Manilla Road to Celtic Frost.
His revival in this capacity modernized does not have some kind of extreme changes, the most obvious notes reside in the title intro saddled anticipating "The Awakening (Interpolating The Wrath Of The Undead)", which at one time without a name has now become "Resurrection From The Underworld"; inserting a closure of the ladder of bonus track " The Cloaked Figure "(also present in the vinyl version edited by Iron Kodex, but contains five additional songs), taken from the demo of the same name released in 2004, and in graphics today, curated by Ken Kelly, an artist who has already worked with The Gates Of Slumber at "Suffer No Guilt" and that many will remember for sure for the various works created for Manowar and the Rainbow "Rising".
"... The Awakening" has given birth to a job live and transmit impulses from the old school, and certainly at the time it became part of the collections of many regular users of the genre. However, if you had not had the opportunity in the past, now here, do not miss this one, this record is worth, as indeed deserves everything so far has been given to these musicians, the doom fluid flowing through their veins.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by Pest Webzine

Image

By Adrian

I'm one of those guys that never get tired of listening to old-school Death Metal even though there are so many such bands nowadays and they keep on popping out everywhere. Anyway, I was surprised to find in Daemonicus a perfect blend of all three big names of the Swedish Death Metal scene (Unleashed, Entombed, Dismember) but still offering a modern approach, a polished (and still raw) sound that fits like a glove with this music. The music is massive sounding, minacing and dark but at the same time melodic and easy to digest. Here and there the band throws in some absolutely awesome guitar leads that really made my day, but the vocals are also good enough and comprehensive, the drums part is really well executed, the bass is fat sounding as we're used to in this genre, and the guitars have that specific rusty Sunlight sound. But to sum it up Daemonicus released an album that will certainly impress all old-school Death Metallers out there.

SEPTEKH (Sweden) "Apollonian Eyes" CD EP review by http://www.heavyhardmetalmania.net

Image

By Wilhelm Lindh

Okay my friends and random surfer trolls, so I'm going to start this review by stating that I'm not a huge thrash fan and I find most retro thrash band utterly useless and pointless. But when I saw/heard the promo clip for Septekh's song Burn It To The Ground, I was totally floored, thinking holy shit this is killer, I want to hear the rest of the Ep called Apollonian Eyes, and now I have!

So what is a Septekh and what does it do, to be honest, I haven't got a clue, but the band Septekh is a thrash/death metal band from some shit hole in Sweden called Stockholm (never heard of it)with a really rotten and dirty sound, it makes me feel like a dirty, dirty boy. Actually it was the guitar tone and overall production that first got my attention, because it is glorious! Really crushing production, and combined that with the raw sound of the drums and the manic vocals and we have a real winner.

What is really fun about reviewing music is that you get to listen to so much new stuff and get in contact with so many new bands. Ok, don't get me wrong many of the albums I get send my way is complete run of the mill garbage, but sometimes you get something that just feels right and you want to take it home to mom and dad and make if feel like one in the family. And this was the way I felt when I heard the video I talked about earlier in this review. And when a promo pack of this EP found its way to my email, I was really ecstatic, cause the rest of the four songs were just as good.

The music is a fast paced mash of thrash, old school death metal and some black metal, at time it gets so frantic that I cannot keep from smiling. And the main reason for this is that I generally don't like this kinds of thrash/ death metal. But what these guys have done with this EP I find completely amazing, together the frantic riffing and the manic vocals is just bliss. The really thick and heavy production of course helps, cause it is like a big kick in the gut.

The vocals are death metal growls mixed up with more of a black metal touch. At times they remind me of the vocals in Necrophobic, and at times the music as well. Sometimes the vocalist makes high screams that end up cracking his voice and these are just epic.

So since this is a short affair, lets do a rundown of the songs!

Apollonian Eyes, a little fire cracker of a song that is a perfect opener with its fast pace and punkish no bullshit attitude.

Burn It To The Ground, I totally get why this song got to be the video song of this Ep, it is just a blast of a song, its groovy and catchy like nothing ells, not as fast as the others thou, more groovy. I imagine that when these fine fellows plays live this song will for sure cause some sore necks and broken ribs.

Cursing The Skies, in this one we are again faced with high speeds and even a bit of blast beat on the drums! This one has a bit more of a black metal feeling then the others, cool change!

Vlad Tepes sets his stake in us at a more moderate pace then the song before, more groove again. And about half way through the song the black metal darkness descends again and we are treated to some soul crushing angst. The vocalist sounds really tortured here, but the vocalist later proclaims that Vlad Tepes was his bitch, so maybe he was actually having a good time.

So to wrap this baby up in barbed wire and send it off I will say if you like fast paced and groovy thrash/death metal Septekh's new EP Apollonian Eyes needs to find a home in your collection since it made a believer of me and I generally pass on this kind of music. So by that I want to say, that it is really good. And if the matter of my personal taste is not enough to convince you, this Ep has the best sound I have heard in a long time, its heavy, full and the drums are raw and fantastic.
You thought I have forgot the bass didn't you?? But oh no! The bass is fairly high in the mix with a killer cleanish tone, and that means heavynessss (with four s, mind you). And at the end of the last song we get a little bass outro, I give them a gold star for that!
Well that is all I have to say, so check out this band and wake up and burn it down!!

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) Interview by http://www.cmar-net.org

Image

By Ante Turic Anternet

The Gardnerz-doom / death metal band from the cold southern Sweden. The band was formed in 2008. years by guitarists Wilhelm. What makes this band special, besides the classic heavy and slow doom riffs, melodic and progressive parts, unusual for a world of doom metal. The band released the album The System Of Nature (2011.) And EP It All Fades (2012.), Both under the auspices of the U.S. publishing house Abyss Records.A 2013 plan to release 7 "panel Exiting Reality also to Abyss Records.

Hello Vedran and welcome to the pages of our site!

Greetings to you. Thanks for your interest, support and media.

To begin please introduce yourself and the band, for those who know what this actually works!

I am a drummer from Osijek and I played in bands such as Uziel, Savage Harmony, Insomnis with Zoran Misic and several bands at the very beginnings of music. I recorded a few demo albums and albums with bands in which I was active from '98 until now.
As far as the band is concerned, it is a Swedish doom / death metal band. The originator of all Wilhelm Lindh, he is also a guitarist, author and lyricist of songs, and the job is shared with singer songwriter Niclas Ankarbranthom. There is Francisco Martin, he plays bass guitar and of course that I'm a little out of the drum. We are a small multinational team because I am from Croatian, Francisco from Chile, but lives in Sweden and Wilhelm and the Swedes Niclas.

Our up sheet in the Swedish band sounds more than good! How you could end up in that situation and how you would fare in Sweden?

I came to the wall, mostly unhappy past experiences and I did not know where to go in the musical sense. I played in many bands, but I do not have the strength nor the nerve lies, fabrications and those which do not appreciate my desires or thinking anything. Would immediately noted that this does not apply to Zoki because no matter how high, is totally 'down to earth' person, regardless of what was happening in his musical life, because he was the first person that people are targeted when talking about it.
Basically I was frustrated by all of this has flown away to Sweden (as much as a man of 110 pounds might be dashing) to visit my sister who lives there. There I decided to review ads that ask musicians alike. So I ran into Wilhelmov ad and checked out the music that I hear if I could play it at all. I sent an email and a week later I answered Wilhelm, shared tasks, and invited me to audition and I passed the test. So I'm now their drummer.

What is life like in Sweden? From our standpoint, from Croatian, it all looks wonderful and very tempting, but is it really so?

And from my point of view everything looks more or less fine and good, but certainly not so. I have some opinions on this, I mean that we live here, we are wizards for them, but I am not always there and does not really know much about it. But definitely they are better than us. Alcohol and cigarettes are they expensive, it is true, but I would not be a problem to give 50 for a pack of cigarettes that I paid £ 10 000, and it took them a minimum wage, something like that. Generally they are very valuable people, but I was a little too formal in everything. It's hard to meet someone on the street because there is not going to coffee and the like, and there bukiraju two weeks in advance to come as guests. Of course I'm exaggerating, but not even close to what we are.
use this opportunity to apologize for misinformation Niclas I said, which is that in Sweden no pasty. I was totally wrong, and it has a ga with cheese. I'm sure because my ga is described in detail to prove that I am wrong. Anyway, it's hard to get to him because I was in an unsuccessful search, probably circulated underground as cocaine.

How are you familiar with the metal scene in Croatia, and that bands allocated?

So of course I'm familiar with Osijek bands and see the guys working at full speed, playing and doing the tour. Are more active than the bands in which I played and I see each other help as well. Of the bands that I would mention are thrown to the dogs, Defiant, Warhead, Mardraum, Inciter, and Infernal Chaos Addict Tenebre that constantly come across, which is great, they are everywhere.

Just at this moment, as we speak, Infernal Tenebre appearance at Norway Trondheim Metalfest. Did you know about that?

No, I had no idea, and hats off to the guys on the persistence and deserved success. I googled the band Uziel other day, looking for pictures from the concert because I was all executed. I came across an article from the early 2000's Infernal Tenebre and I was surprised how much it is actually an old band. It's time to actually do something and someone goes to hand and I hope that they will be well paid for it.

How hard is it, in your experience, get on some big metal festival, regardless of which country you come from?

In my experience it is currently impossible because I've never played on a big metal festival. The greatest concert I played was the bike fest in Slavonski ship, but this is not it. I have no idea, persistence is essential and should be a push wherever, on a bluff, where flies flies without fear of failure. Not playing Infernal Tenebre at Metalfest because they fell from the sky, but because they have done something to achieve this. I think in this business or whatever you define it to go headlong through a wall to get something accomplished, and of course act as a group, not as individuals. From whichever government comes to the band think it's just as hard, just as everyone is struggling. Now if the band comes from Sweden does not mean that it is all served. The only thing I can think of is that their musical equipment when usporediš cheaper wages and have better access to high-quality instruments, that's all, but again the Swedes do not agree with me on this point. They were all expensive :)

Let's get back to The Gardnerz. Tell me more about your writings, you have in fact declared as a doom death metal band. Are the texts are limited exclusively to this topic?

I later joined the band, which is declared as a doom / death metal, and I can not say that I had no previous experience with doom metal. However, I think that the text and music is different from that in some moments. I think there are no rules, Wilhelm made a skeleton tracks, Niclas write lyrics and I put on my drum on it. Given that I have no experience in this kind of music, my drum is not even a bit 'doom' except in moments in which the song demands it of me. Some of the topics include religion, materialism, decoration companies, etc. I do not know too much about it because I do not write lyrics. To give me to write lyrics I would write about love, rainbow colors and butterflies.

History is one of the themes represented in your writings. Do you think that history is not as exact as what most people think it is, because it is written so and so, and can be interpreted in several ways. Can we say that each has a history of two or even more'' true'' version?

Of course I believe that history is not correct, because it was initially passed on "word of mouth" or something that we later called "broken telephone". Later, when there was an occurrence letters, newspapers and books, people who were in power and had the power to control what comes out in public, that is what the 'truth' people need to know.
As such an example may indicate the song Shift In Thought which indicates that the Swedes original instigators of racism and that Hitler took the idea from them, that it is not taught in schools and it's all presented in order to hide their own stupidity.

Closely linked with the history of the religion. As much as the band deals with the subject of faith?

Pretty :)

Two years ago, you signed a record deal with Abyss Records. How has it helped you in your career?

Yes, that was before I came into the band, so I think that helped a lot. I mean, every band needs a record label and should handle CD and booklet, make a nice package, and they are costly, and then all it needs to multiply. The band immediately looks serious when he has a quality product or two behind and record label that helps them and pushes them forward.

Under their auspices are released and EP album 'It All Fades'. Is the album met your expectations?

Thus, it is a small 36-minute EP or mini-album, which is our second official release of the second issue under the auspices of the Abyss Records. I have no idea what is the opinion of the rest of the band, but I know that I am not pleased with drum, the way he played, but mostly hooks and still queasy about that and now I have all ignored. I have not had time to record, it was the speed with regard to the recording drum. But what's done is done, but I have to live the rest of life. You've also done It All Fades review and rating was 7.5 / 10 which is generally all that. I am pleased with the score, and I wish that the higher, but I am also satisfied with the current situation. Somehow, as a band we thrive in creative and musical terms.

What is currently happening with the band, and what are your plans for 2013. year?

Currently we are preparing the seventh edition plates Exiting Reality. Everything is recorded and for that matter all are happy, I still hook drum and still do all ignored. But I think that's the best we've ever filmed, the production is better than It All Fades, the panel will include two songs Exiting Exiting Reality and Reality pt.1 pt.2. They will probably be released in digital form and the course will be released through Abyss Records. Wrapper is responsible for All Things Rotten (Maggot Meister) a man who worked for the Children Of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Pain, Snowy Shaw, etc. Definitely made ??a brilliant job.
Wider some information and some agreements for concerts in South America, so that know nothing with any certainty. Apparently it is some gigs in the 9th month. Meanwhile, prepare the ground for the second album, we have a number of songs and ideas that need to be polished and put in order. When all that's taken out and choose the songs I think we will go into the studio.

When can we expect you in Croatia?

Now that I do not know, but I'm in your head Osijek UFO Festival in July, and somehow it all first trying to organize in your head so you guys an idea then and by the organizers. That's just my idea with anyone I did not talk about it, but here it is what I'm spinning through my head before I put the idea on the table.

Thanks a lot for this interview and I hope to see you soon!

Thank you very much and we hope to see you soon.
Cheers!

SEPTEKH (Sweden) "Apollonian Eyes" CD EP review by http://www.nocleansinging.com

Image

By Islander

I couldn’t help but be intrigued by Sweden’s Septekh before ever hearing a note of their new four-song EP, Apollonian Eyes. They claim as influences not only Motörhead and Slayer but also Fenriz (Darkthrone) and Frost (Satyricon, 1349), not only The Exploited and Death Breath but also DHG and Emperor. They embrace the label “dirty thrashy death metal” but they profess a fondness for vintage Sherry, they sport blazers and vests on stage, and they cultivate a nice assortment of Snidely Whiplash moustaches.

If you have trouble wrapping your mind around all that and what it might portend for Septekh’s music, join the club. Perhaps you now begin to understand why I was intrigued. Of course, curiosity has killed some cats — this could have been a mess — but Apollonian Eyes left this cat purring.

All four songs on the EP are jet-fueled, rip-roaring, fast-paced romps. They’re loaded with jagged, rapidly jabbing riffs and frenzied drumwork, but that’s balanced by hard-chugging, road-eating, Motörhead-style heavy rock rhythms and a nice assortment of guitar solos that alternately spit flames and whirl like a dervish.

In the vocal department, Nils “Grznls” Meseke delivers a balls-to-the-wall performance, usually howling in a scalding blast that you’d never hear from Lemmy unless he’d just been set on fire, but occasionally dropping down into bestial croaks and death metal roars (my favorite coming when you first hear “We burn it to the ground!” in the song of the same name).

Down at the core of the music on this EP there beats an old-school, heavy metal heart, but despite its primal (and feral) appeal the music is often technically demanding and it’s performed with machine precision. Tempos and even time signatures veer on a dime, and fingers really fly across the fretboards, especially during the bombastic guitar-and-bass-interplay on the final track, “Vlad Tepes”.

Yet despite an impressive degree of instrumental flash, the music comes across as barely controlled mayhem. It’s mosh-pit fuel distilled from some high-grade ingredients. I guess vintage Sherry can fuck you up just as hard as bottom-shelf swill.

It turns out that the array of disparate influences named by Septekh isn’t an exercise in name-dropping. While “dirty thrashy death metal” may be a reasonably accurate summing up of the band’s sound, there’s a lot more going on in this EP than that label suggests, and the result is as interesting as it is a shitload of fun. It’s hell-raising genre blending that works, and works very well indeed.

DEAD AWAKEN (Sweden) Interview by Smile Pretty for the Devil

Image

By SinisterAngel

Dead Awaken started out in the spring of 2002. The members were: Andreas "Adde" Backström - guitar, Joakim Edlund - Drums, Jonas Lindberg - guitar Andreas "Fluff" Morén - vocals. The band was missing a bass player, but those army boots were soon filled by former ABHOTH guitarist/vocalist Jörgen Kristensen.During all these years some members left the band, others joined it and now the current members are: Jörgen kristensen on guitar and vocals,Mats Blückert on drums and Magnus Wall/Jonas Stålhammar as a session bass player. On April 1st, 2013 their last album "Where Hope Turns Dripping Red" will be released by Abyss records. Here is a recent interview with them:

1.When you formed tha band what was your dream for it ? have you accomplished it yet ?

When forming my first band, back in '88, the dream was just to stand on stage and play metal.
When joining Dead Awaken, 14 years later, the dream was to get back into playing Death Metal and taking things to new heights.
I think I/we've accomplished that, yes.
Now we're looking forward to our debut album release.

2.How would you describe your last album "Where Hope Turns Dripping Red" ?do you think fans will like it?

It's an intense and very aggressive affair.
By far our most intense work ever.
We hope people will like it. Seems like we're considered old school, I hope our fans will consider us timeless.

3.Why did your bass player Andreas leave the band?

It was a mutual decision.
He had a lot of ideas that never ended up being Dead Awaken material.
His side project Bleeding Utopia turned more and more into his main project.
It was time for him to move on and I was happy to do the bass work in the studio.
Very developing for me.

4.Are you satisfied with your last studiowork?

Yeah, I'm happy with it.
When listening to it, I hear things that could have been done better.
But, I guess that's normal with musicians.
Constantly developing, we're rarely happy with our past efforts.

5.What are your future plans? Will you make a tour ?

The plan is to get out on the road.
We don't have a tour planned, but a one week tour or so, would be great!

SEPTEKH (Sweden) "Apollonian Eyes" CD EP review by http://www.metalreviews.com

Image

By Alex

I don’t quite remember why I skipped on Septekh earlier EP titled The Seth Avalanche. Perhaps it was the picture of the jackal face on the cover that did not impress me. Or maybe I underappreciated Fuckslut from Hell, the opening (and incidentally the best) track on that EP. Sticking with their way of issuing shorter releases, the Swedes are back, yet with another EP called Apollonian Eyes, continuing to proliferate their blend of what they call dirty thrash/death metal.

Not as punky as the Norwegians Aura Noir and Audiopain Septekh remind me of, they stick to their chaotic and demented style on the opening title track of the EP. After some military march overtones creep in on Apollonian Eyes, the fight between this structure and dementia keeps on going, with depravity prevailing in the end either way. Burn It to the Ground is catchy, especially in the chorus, lower register sounding Sodom, with Patrick Strom’s bass being audible throughout and even getting to play his own role on this track. The vocals by Nils Meseke are buried a bit, but they are right back where they need to be on the At The Gates going a little crazier than normal Cursing the Skies.

It the closer Vlad Tepes, however, which surprised me the most. Very unexpectedly, this song provided me with a totally different angle of Septekh, reminding me distantly early Dark Tranquillity on Skydancer, with a number of melodic flows and ebbs, tremolos picking up energy, and appropriately tortured vocals. Vlad Tepes, title befitting, has a lot of blackened character in addition to its lunging predatory riffs making it the most interesting song on the album.

The Swedes are still looking for their way, but sound more confident with every subsequent EP they put out.

CHAOSSWORN (Sweden) "Chalice of Black Flames" CD EP review by http://www.metalteamuk.net

Image

By Andrew Doherty

This EP is one of a number of current releases from Abyss Records. Chaossworn, whose current or previous name of Cryptic Death I didn’t know, are from Sweden. Blackened Death Metal is their style. An impressive credential is the involvement of Dan Swano, who mastered this work and whose familiar influence on Swedish Metal is apparent here.
But let’s give the band some credit. Each track on this EP is the creative fusion of many dark elements. “Crowned and Winged” starts with the thumping march that you’d associate with Amon Amarth. With it there are twisty modern-style Black Metal guitar interludes. There’s a good dose of Death Metal but it’s also melodic and quite catchy too. As you may gather, there’s a lot going on here. There’s a constant change of movement and mood, but it’s all impressively dark and well played. “Crowned and Winged” returns to the march. The drum sets the tempo, the guitar changes the mood and the vocalist breathes fire throughout. Altogether this works well. “Bringer of Storms” takes a different angle. Fury and anger resound as the drums are battered purposefully and ominously, while the guitar works up and down and vocalist growls gruesomely. Towards the end, it slows down and ends on a suitable note of death, leading as it does into the title track. Here a different kind of march is played. It’s uncompromising and brutal but not without its attraction. The vocalist growls to the rancid rhythm. In common with the previous tracks, a break is used to signal a movement into another sphere. This time we enter a Death Metal wonderland. It’s technical as much of the guitar work is but it never lacks movement. The message which seems to come from the guitar as the track closes is that everyone has died but it’s not morbid. It’s more majestic than and reinforces the notion of death. “Chalice of Black Flames” is another good track and a prime example of old-school Swedish Melodic Death Metal.
“Chalice of Black Flames” as an EP has three good tracks which are as dark as hell, great to listen to and full of technical skill. It’s just a shame there wasn’t more than the 15 minutes that we had here.
