Blog update:

It feels weird to be so close to 30.000 views in total. To me, that's a lot! Thanks to everyone who's been bothering to read so far - There are still many more reviews to come!!
This week's review is probably my first of a Portuguese band. Tod Huetet Uebel's debut EP is an intense piece of black metal, and with the free download included on the site you better check that shit out!
"The band aspires to be something great and achieves some form of that magnitude by the sheer force of this EP."

Next up:
Ragehammer - War Hawks

Ragehammer from Poland make their way unto the scene with a surprisingly well-made demo effort of blackened thraaash
"Ragehammer immediately assail the ears of the hapless victims listening to War Hawks for the first time."

Blog update:

Spain may not be the most obvious "black metal country". They managed to produce two good BM acts, though!
"The efforts of both Spanish bands speaks of great musical integrity and a creativity that many current groups and bands lack."

Forestfather - Hereafter

Blog update:

Forestfather - Hereafter
Atmospheric black metal is trending nowadays, but it's not all shit. Hereafter was a bit of a mixed experience for me, but "There's nothing to hold against the recording itself. The production is gritty and cold and feels sufficiently organic for the music to positively benefit from it."

Thanks for the review. Multiple times people seem to mention Alcest and Agalloch and their ilk but I get none of that from Forestfather. They share way more in common with bands like Empyrium and Ulver than the Cascadian scene. The production on the album was one of the best aspects about it. Glad you recognized how professional and bitter sounding it is.

Haven't listened to Empyrium, but I can see what you mean about certain Ulver albums.

Back to the roots, simple, basic death metal is what Arizona's Apocryphal have produced for their first demo.

Blog update:

This is one of the longer ones (that's what she said) - Trou Noir is an international effort with members hailing from France and Russia, delivering a cosmic message of ambient-laden black metal
"The transitions between the ten tracks on Trou Noir's first demo are seamless and immaculate, making the whole demo coalesce with each element being consistently integrated without much effort."

I thought I'd never memorize a name like Sguaguarahchristis. Likewise, I thought their music would be unmemorable trash. Never judge a book by its cover seems to be relevant in this situation
