Venom - Cast in Stone (2-disc) for $7.00 was a pretty cheap grab.

Also got a Crypticus CD for free last time I went to a local record store. That made me happy. :)

Dunno if these are really deals or not:

Mortem - Demon Tales LP - $13USD
Mythic - Mourning of the Winter Solstice MC - $3 (i know the 7'' version goes for at least $50, but dunno if the cassette is worth much)
Rigor Mortis - Freaks mLP - $3 (its pretty beat up though =/)
Covenant - In Times Before the Light Original Mordgrimm Pressing - $7
Cattle Decapitation - Ten Torments of the Damned 7'' - $7
Marduk - plague angel picture disc - $10

i also have some demos from moonblood side projects, and various german BM bands, along with various 7'' eps and cassette demos i usually buy on the blind purchase at local record stores. Some of this stuff could be worth a bit, but at the same time it may not go for more than the standard price, i don't see some of these titles on ebay frequently to be sure of their actual value.

I'm also the guy who has found used copies of classic Cd's for $5-10 each usually, though most aren't first or rare pressings anyway.

THE EVERDAWN Poems - Burn The Past (first press by Invasion Recs)
MIDVINTER At The Sight...
BLOOD STORM Atlantean Wardragon
NIGHTFALL Lesbian Show
THROES OF DAWN Pakkasherra
VASARIA Vasaria
DEFLESHED Under The Blade
These CDs are pride of my collection (also as OBTAINED ENSLAVEMENT, AETERNUS and GATES OF ISHTAR)

My most memorable haul is this one:

Graveland - Thousand Swords, first pressing on Lethal Records
Graveland - Carpathian Wolves, first pressing on Eternal Devils
Necromantia - Crossing the Fiery Path, first pressing on Osmose
Necromantia - Scarlet Evil, Witching Black, also first pressing on Osmose
Bethlehem - Dictius te Necare, first pressing on Red Stream

From a second-hand store for about 5 to 10 euros a piece, some six years ago.

About eight years ago, I bought the first pressing of Darkthrone's A Blaze in the Northern Sky new, for normal cd price (13 euros), which still somewhat amazes me. Same deal with the first three Countess albums, normal cd prices, not second-hand, bought 5 or 6 years ago. Real surprise when I found those just sitting there in a store.

Also got some rare stuff from Napalm records for absurdly cheap prices, like Sort Vokter - Folkloric Necro Metal, Ildjarn - Forest Poetry, Nastrond - Age of Fire, all for around 5 euros.

Dismember-The God That Never Was and Slayer-Christ Illusion for 2$ each.

My metal collection consists of like 5 CD's. The rest are mp3's on my computer.

But the best deal ever for moi:

Iron Maiden-Edward the Great for like 12$. My first metal CD ever which turned me into a metalhead.

The cheapest CD I've ever bought was probably Cephalic Carnage - Anomalies. I won it for about $3 Aussie dollars on eBay but had to pay another $3 for postage. Still, it is much cheaper than what you have to pay for in store.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but I have ALL of their albums and got most of them for $10 Australian, which is a lot less than 7 euros.

The best used cd haul I ever encountered was when I found Purtenance "Member of Immortal Damnation", Necrophobic "The Nocturnal Silence" - first US press with "Shadows of the Moon", and Gorguts "Obscura" at a local second hand cd shop for $7.00 a piece. It will be a long time before I top that haul again, i'm sure.

I've been collecting records and CDs for a long time, but a couple memorable ones:

10 copies (!) of the Steel "Heavy Metal Machine" Pic 7" single at a record show in Holland for EUR 3 each
The "Death Metal" compilation LP (gore cover) for $20 at a Philly record show
Possessed "Seven Churches" promo LP (including bio and 8x10 photo) at an Ephrata, PA store for $7

My best was either Illogicist - Subjected or Massacra - Final Holocaust. Whichever it was, it was had for 6$.

A couple weeks ago, I saw a used copy of Hypnosia - Extreme Hatred on Amazon for $6.50. Of course, it was days after I payed $25 for mine. My copy is like new though, so that's nice.

Bathory - s/t 'Yellow Goat' for £8.00 in a record shop who clearly thought it was a regular one. Sold it for £200 (it was in really bad condition), but now really, really wish I'd kept it (I was broke).

I really don't understand what happened to the prices for these. It's a good album, but not THAT good.

About 6 or 7 years ago I found an obscure little power metal distro with October Tide's ultra-rare Rain Without End CD in stock for $8.00! They wound up having 8 copies in stock, so I bought them all, kept one for myself, and Ebayed the rest for big bucks.

There's some good bargains here. But 50$ for a record isn't a bargain...

My most memorable moment was finding an old ENTOMBED 7"EP for 3.00€ in a record store, taking two CDs with it, and when time came to pay, the seller told me he got other old 7"EPs for sale. I took 32 of them, each for 3.00€ piece, and he called the person who sold them to get me a better bargain : 90.00€ for 32 7"EPs, including UNLEASHED, DISSECTION, ORDER FROM CHAOS, etc, mostly stuff from the early 90's on labels like Thrash Records, etc. I bought a few remaining ones the following times I went to this shop.

I sold or traded some, doubles or the ones I didn't like.

LLN + kvlt points + BM status symbol = highly sought after album.

It's a great release, however it's sad because the same rich people who buy the EAL DLP for $1,000+ are the ones who won't listen to the music, much less the $100+ CD version. The damn thing should just be reprinted, even in 1,000 copies with alternate cover or something.

It is a great album which, is why I haven't sold it off on ebay for absurd profit yet. I have to admit it is kind of thrilling to own something people regularly spend $1000 for. I have originals of most of the rest of the Mutiilation catalog, acquired for similar prices when they were released. I'm holding onto them in case of a financial emergency ;) Otherwise, I agree. It'd be nice if some rich metal head founded a label devoted to quality (no Back on Black, thank you) reissues of all these old albums, vinyl and cd.

I've never found any surprise bargains, but back when I was really trying to build up my metal collection (in late 2005 and the summer of 2006) Drakkar Records in France used to have these great $5 CD sales. My favorites from those sales were the first three Drudkh CD's, the first two Die Saat CD's, the second Arkona CD, some Hate Forest, Nokturnal Mortum, Astrofaes, Forefather, Wyrd, Slavland, etc.

NWN is good and tends to focus on great bands new and old. The re-releases they've done are good quality.

It's rather unfortunate that back on black has licenses to reissue so many classic albums, given the absurd prices and semi-often low quality of them when so many others could re-release these out of print vinyl and at least sell them for a standard $15 give or take price, and be of higher quality.

A few years back, I bought a wicked haul of 110 cds from a guy off ebay. I paid something like $400 which itself it prtty good, thats like 4$ a cd. 70% of the bands I never heard of (at the time), but the majority were awesome death metal from the 90s all firsts presses. some of my favourites and first presses/ early albums included:

Abramelin
Asphyx
Atrocity
Benediction
Bolt Thrower
Coroner
Dissection
Entombed
Gorguts
Malevolent Creation
Morgoth
Necrophagist
Nile
Pentacle
Rotten Sound
Rotting Christ
Sentenced
Solitude Aeturnus

That lot really gave my tastes a boost, not to mention months worth of listening to new (to me) cds.

My recent cheap buys are:

Venom's "Welcome to Hell" and "Black Metal" from Combat Records - 7$
Infester's "To The Depths... In Degradation" - 6$
Morpheus Descends's "Ritual of Infinity w/Adipocere", Decomposed's demo, and Volitle Zylog's demo - FREE. A god among men is giving them to me. In return, I am sending him a shirt and a few obscure things.
Mayhem's "Live in Leipzig" - Free, more or less, getting it through a trade with a good friend of mine.
Judas Priest's Re-Release Collection - 60$, the whole thing. The FYE in Macon, Ga. was going out of business, so I scooped that and some other stuff up.
Iron Maiden's "The X Factor" - 2$, but I hate that album.

You can always find some really good stuff if you like in the right places. Xtreme Music Records has a fabulous little catalogue with alot of stuff that is rarely in print, Like Dead Congregation's full length. I've still got to get that.
