Inspired by the Cnn thread, let's hear about examples of metal popping up in mainstream movies and TV. Not the big bands, stuff you'd have to be a metalhead to appreciate.

For example, last night on The Office, there was a scene with a cleaning crew coming in later in the evening, and they were blasting the new Arkona from their stereo. I couldn't believe it at first, it was great.

Suffocation is pretty well-known though.

Hopefully we can prevent this thread from turning into a big flame war of which band's sold out and which ones didn't...threads like these usually don't end well.

Either way, I'm sure everyone remembers these three incidents:

1. Miley Cyrus wearing Iron Maiden t-shirts.

2. Grindcore in the movie 'Extract' (I think it was Extract).

3. The "Mayhem On A Cross" episode of Bones.

Lots of people are probably already aware of this but Cannibal Corpse appeared in Ace Ventura. Apparently Jim Carey was a big fan.

Also, does anyone remember how amazingly awesome iTunes' metal section is? As of this moment, the featured bands are Burzum, Dark Tranquillity, Xasthur, Immolation, High On Fire and Fear Factory. It's not filled with nu/core shit! Rejoice!

Don't forget Napalm Death, Slayer, and Entombed...

Back when I was in Driver's Ed, the class was forced to watch an old Dateline report about dangerous roads. The song that they kept using during the transitions to different scenes was a Fear Factory remix from Remanufacture. I was thrilled to hear one of my favorite bands coming through the TV during one of the most boring days of my life.

A song from Sepultura's Arise album was on the movie Taldega Nights during the final race.

The song is Desperate Cry and might I say it's intense.

Sounds more like she's a wannabe metalhead than a real metalhead. Honestly, she lists here favorite bands as Lamb of God, The Devil Wears Prada, Dr. Acula and more deathcore (ugh).

there was a story that popped up a few months ago in the news about a guy being a huge Cattle Decapitation fan and it turns out he had been burying human body parts in his yard, authorities/neighbors found out. and i believe that there was a Cattle Decap song called "Human Body Farm" or something like that, which is what people were blaming the whole incident upon. it took place in San Diego or somewhere in California i believe, where the band is from.

i also heard that this was rumored to be a fake, set up by the band simply to gain exposure for their new album. either way it's news and metal.

According to Wikipedia (not the most reliable source), there was a West Wing episode about two kids who sent death threats with the quote "Following the Voice of Blood" and were influenced by Graveland.

That Duck Dodgers episode DID have the greatest plan for world domination ever: play easy listening jazz until the world is too relaxed to fight back.

Its all Metal/deathcore, but still, pretty big shock from you know, disney channel. She likes pig squeals though, so there is no redemption for her.

EDIT: beaten to it.

Friends has a few metal references. Phoebe's brother wears band shirts like Anthrax and Motorhead occasionally, though doesn't really draw attention to them much. Carcass were also mentioned when a woman complained about how her husband wanted to book them for their wedding - later on when it turns out the woman is trying to book the same band Monica wants for her own wedding, Phoebe excitedly asks "does this mean Carcass is available?" There was one as well when someone was asking Phoebe what songs she liked playing on her guitar and she mentioned she was learning some Iron Maiden covers.

I see someone's already mentioned Slayer on Harry Hill. I didn't actually see this when it was aired (cos Harry Hill's a bit shit tbh lol) but later on my mate messaged me on MSN saying "You're into Slayer right?" and I said yeah, and he was talking about how he heard Slayer on Harry Hill, thought it sounded awesome and wanted me to suggest an album for him to buy from them next time he went to the record shop. This is a Christian guy whose favourite bands are all 80's pop artists, so it's a significant step forward hahaa.

Also forgot to mention, in the programme The Inbetweeners, on the wall of the common room there's a Mayhem poster, always amuses me. In another teen programme, Skins, one episode in the third series opened with Motorhead's Ace Of Spades, with the main character of the episode singing along to it while running down the street, drinking vodka and harassing passersby. The very first episode of Skins had a grindcore/death metal type tune briefly played near the start which Tony uses to distract his dad to allow his sister to sneak in after a night out, I have no idea which band it was from but I'd love to know.

Slayer and Cradle of Filth I think both where shown playing live on Viva la Bam.

And while not nearly as noteworthy, I recall on Peewee's Big Adventure the part where he flees Universal studios and disrupts a Twisted Sister video shoot.

Surprised no one menchion this yet, Zombieland. For Whome the Bell Tolls was the opening track and they played a Motley Crue song as well in it.

Not exactly mainstream, but Manga Entertainment used the really catchty intro from Celtic Frost's "The Heart Beneath" for one of their adds in the 90's. I still watch the trailer for nostalgia.

The movie Shoot 'Em Up, starring Clive Owen, has Ace of Spades by Motorhead and Zen by SYL, and also a couple of not quite metal bands like Nirvana, Wolfmother, AC/DC and Motley Crue (most people consider them metal, but I generally call them hard rock).
