So what is your favorite metal band that has come out of the city you currently live in?

My favorite would be Annihilator followed closely by Exciter (Ottawa, Canada). Annihilator are one of the first more underground bands I had gotten into a few years ago and I still love Jeff Waters' first two albums and about 70-80% of the rest of his albums. I admit that there are some consistency issues with some of it, all in all though I love this band and it is one of my favs. ( http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=140 )

As for Exciter.... how can you not like songs like Violence and Force and Heavy Metal Maniac? ( http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=1103 )

So what is your favorite band (or two) from your city? (If you don't live in a city just use the closest city to you)

I haven't really heard (m)any from my closest city of Wollongong, but Daemon Foetal Harvest is not too bad.

Can't say I have a singular favourite band from here in Brisbane, but there's a few very cool acts that tend to be unknown outside of the local scene. Defamer, Rookwood, Spire, Sedition, The Dead, Vomitor and Lustration are all quality.

uuhhh... Entombed, Opeth, Candlemass, Katatonia...
Pick a genre and I'm sure I have a favorite :)

Lets just say that there are a shitload of bands from Stockholm.
Which probably comes as surprise to no one.

From here my favourite band would be Demoniac - a blackened/power metal band, that was sortof a forerunner to Dragonforce - except much less flowery, etc. When i first heard 'em - a few years back - i was surprised. Not only had i not heard of the band at all - i didn't expect to see they were from Wellington - especially given that i thought the overall sound and feel of the band was quite unique, (considering the rather early dates of their releases) and they were of a fairly strong calibre cf what i have/had heard from NZ metal at the time.

Asides from that, this band Rad-X from here is pretty great. We played a show with them when they were still under their old band name -Destitude like 4-5 months ago, and i was impressed with their impressive twin-guitar attack, and the influences of traditional heavy/power/thrash elements in their music - something i had found rare in most NZ bands i had/have seen. Anyway, we have since become friends with the band and play shows with 'em on occasion.

Exhumed. They're the only good band in my city (San Jose) and they're also the only band from my city that made a name for themselves. I'm not saying they're bad though. They play some fucking sick deathgrind.

Probably either:

Celestiial (transcendental funeral doom of its own variety)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHHkJw5CIvg

or

Scaphe (kind of takes their cue from Man is the Bastard and goes from there)

There's never been ANY good bands that have come from Las Vegas. As soon as they consider starting up, they put down their instruments, unbutton their shirts, roll their sleeves and apply bottles of douche liberally. The skanks here only want the best.

Ulver, Arcturus, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Dødheimsgard.

And for a change of genre, DeLillos, Jokke & Valentinerne and Raga Rockers.

I killed the prom queen, either us or some of the other local barossa valley bands, heretics way or absinthe betrayed... on a national scale I'd probably say psycroptic or destroyer 666 though

WTF are you on about?

Martire
Stargazer
Cauldron Black Ram
Oni
Jesus Anal Penetration
Miserys Omen
Tzun Tzu
Mournful congregation

Are all Adelaide bands. Leave the hall!

Anyway, I'm from Melbourne, so there is a long, long list. I'd have to say disEMBOWELLMENT, followed by Destroyer 666 and Abominator.

My favorite band from the town I live in is Antheom and it is not so just because all the guys from that band are my friends. I like the music they play, it is one of my favorite metal genres. I would say that Antheom is the only true metal band in our town at present. :headbang:

We have a lot up here in boston but most of it's metalcore, that's what were know for. But we also have some great "genuine" metal acts. With so many choices Ill pick three hailing from Boston MA.

Ravage- Probably one of the best bands Ive ever heard, and with their new debut "the end of tomorrow", they are sure to go far in the speed/ power metal world. They have a power metal sound with a thrashy bite, with great songs, and great lyrics. I reccomend you get their new release, and check out "Freedom Fighter", and pretty much every song on that ambum. The whole thing is amazing.

Lich King- "Bay Area" (Boston, we have a bay too you know...) Thrash at it's best! Their first two albums sounded a bit like Exodus rip offs, but with their newest release "World Gone Dead", they have really found their own style. It's just great all around thrash, with the heavyness of Sodom, and speed of Exodus. Theyve got the best of both worlds. Check out the songs "Act of War", followed by "Ed-209" on their new release to get started.

Unearth- Unearth applies to the Metalcore/ Hardcore scene a bit more than the metal fans, but they have played Wacken, and still put on a great show. They dont have two many cliche breakdowns and crabcore-stage-coreography like other metalcore acts. They play thrashy, punchy, in-your-face metal. A great band, check out the song "Giles", and "Imposter's Kingdom" do get a feel for them!

Dr. Steel - heavy metal, VERY simmilar to Judas Priest
Jersey - heavy metal, heard only 2 tracks, might actually be better than the first one
Unholy Inquisition - best extreme metal band
Arisse - NS Thrash Metal

I just can't decide.

Be'lakor and Paramaecium are/were two from down my way that I like. There's also stuff like The Day Everything Became Nothing, who I've seen live a few times and are always good.

I'm assuming discounting bands that one is in already. So outside of anything I'm doing I would say Dead for Ten Weeks. regular brutal death metal. nice guys though.

Probably Cease. Pretty shit EP they put out but really cool live, they always deliver. Hypnotic/improv'd stoner/drone doom for those interested.. Although as I just said, they're not much on record.

I currently live in Norfolk, Nebraska. There are only two bands from this area, Faith Buried in Flames and The Lifeless Design. FBIF is fairly decent melodic death metal whereas TLD is more of a groove/death metal band. They're both okay. I suppose with a gun to my head, I would pick FBIF.

I got plenty to choose in the good Montreal scene.

Augury would be my choice!

Obliveon, Kataklysm, Vatican, Beneath the Massacre are close call

Bonded by Blood from Pomona. Really solid thrash band in my opinion. Not only that but I had classes in high school with the original bassist from that band.

Eh, Sportlov I guess, by the ones I've actually heard. Watain are from here as well, but I never really cared that much for them.

... I really need to get more into the local scene.

Both great bands with killer records and cool live gigs. Witnessed both on "home ground" now several times.
