I listen to a LOT of non metal music, I have only a few albums I would give 100% though. I do agree with Peal Jam - Ten, and the mentions of Rush - 2112, also the Dead Can Dance.

I listened to a couple bands other people were liking here, the only one that really struck me good was the Vibrasphere, really good stuff. Cant remember who dropped it but thanks!!

Birch Book - Tangles in the Vine

The solo album by the front man of In Gowan Ring, really just simple folk acoustics with amazingly soothing vocals, wonderful wonderful lyrics, descriptive, setting, and emotional all into one. I listen to this album daily.

A Whisper in the Noise - Through the Ides of March

Absolutely the most depressing music I've heard, just epic. Most of the songs revolve around child slavery/labor, intense stuff, great music.

I think I'm forgetting a few, but yeah those two are marvelous. Oh just remembered one, Death in June - All Pigs Must Die, extremely dark and angry for a folkish project.

Jethro Tull- Aqualung
Pink Floyd- Animals
Rush- 2112

Faith No More - Angel Dust
This album is the epitome of music to me. I don't have a single complaint about it and I can listen to it endlessly and never get sick of it.

Nirvana - In Utero
This is the album that got me to want to be a musician back in 5th grade. It has my favorite recorded drum sound.

Russian Circles - Geneva
I've been following these guys for awhile and they just keep getting better. Geneva is an instrumental masterpiece. Dave, by the way, has my favorite live drum sound.

Deftones - White Pony
Even though they've released three great albums after this one, White Pony is still my favorite. It has the perfect mix of Around The Fur and the sound they became more familiar with in Saturday Night Wrist.

Melvins - Bullhead
Crushing and weird-as-fuck. Boris is a fucking awesome song.

Great band and album. I ignored Saturday Night Wrist for a couple of years because i didn't think i'd like Deftones much anymore, but it was a really good listen. All the stuff since White Pony has been brilliant.

SNW is definitely good. There are a lot of Deftones fans that hate it because it isn't Adrenaline or Around The Fur, which is bullshit. Just like there are plenty of Dillinger Escape Plan fans that hate anything with Greg on vocals because it isn't Calculating Infinity. Speaking of which, I was going to include Option Paralysis but I forgot somehow...

Come on guys, stop ruining this goddamn thread with your stupid unsolicited lists already; nobody wants them. Just post your favourites one at a time or something so you can at least write a paragraph about them.

Maynard Ferguson: Conquistador

On reflection, I think I have to add this one. Yeah, it's hard to be truly objective because it's probably the first album I remember ever falling in love with back when I was about three years old. Essentially "big band fusion", with some contemporary funk influences, groove aplenty and a trumpet lead who was sometimes called "Screech" back in the day because of the ungodly high notes he could hit with his instrument. It does feature some movie theme songs, which the record label wanted Maynard to re-arrange and include, but they're actually really good, especially the funkified version of the Star Trek thheme (yeah, it sounds totally ridiculous on paper but it really rules). It's also probably the first music that gave me nightmares, mostly because of the ominous title track, during which at such a tender age I always used to imagine a lion stalking and pouncing upon its prey, at least until the funkier second half comes in. Listen to that track here:

weird, my previous post didn't show up

Abom, the mix of trumpet (which I have recently decided is an instrument that never improves a song, except for Summoning), contemporary funk influences, (funkified) movie themes and big band fusion, well, that's pretty much the worst combination I could imagine, short of adding folk metal. I'd youtube it but my internets are too slow for youtube and currently and, well, based on that description I wouldn't want to go near it anyway 8) Must be a childhood memories thing.

Well, it's just about magic for me, except maybe for the show-tunes part; in fact i've been looking for music of this type for a very long time. Recently found a band called Munic Machine that seems to fit the bill very nicely! I love The Blackbyrds and Brecker Brothers, too. Trumpets have always been among my favourite instruments, and I'm not including Summoning because they don't use real ones. I actually played the trumpet for several years, too...still have one, though I'm sure the mouthpiece is rusty and should be replaced before I ever consider playing it again.
I meant contemporary funk in a 70s context, by the way....

I could think of a bunch, but the only one I can recall off the top of my head is Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene.

Subvision - So Far, So Noir (2006)
This is just amazing (indie-)pop. Singer is Tobias Forge, also known as Mary Goore, from Repugnant and Ghost (okay, the members of Ghost are secret but I'm pretty fucking certain it's him). I'm also pretty sure he writes all the stuff too. Everything is just so great on this record. The vocals, the lyrics, the melodies, guitars, bass, and it's got this really dramatic (best word I can find to describe it) atmosphere and feel to it. It has the same poppy elements like Ghost and the voice is very similar too, so if you liked them you would probably enjoy Subvision too. Sadly they have split up so there will probably not be any more records in the future. I'll put a link to their myspace here, but I'd say two of the three tracks on their myspace are the weakest on the album. Room 116 though is one of the best songs on there. Not even two months after discovering this true gem the song Psycamore took the number one spot on the list on my lastfm for songs I listen to the most!

Best tracks: Room 116, Fault, Psycamore, Necropolis.

Their myspace:
http://www.myspace.com/sofarsonoir

If you've got Spotify you can find the whole album there but I guess most of you don't!

and a lot of people dismiss Deftones because they got lumped in with Limp Bizkit etc in the 90's. I myself never properly heard them untill White Pony for that reason.

As for DEP i stopped after the 04 album. The EP with Patton is the only one i ever spin anymore. That shit was mega.

Oh geez, I have a feeling I can go on forever in this thread.. but let's start it off with The Doors.

Their whole studio discography with Morrison. Yes, all six albums recorded with Jim Morrison I would give 100%, even The Soft Parade (which many find to be their worst album). Vocally and lyrically, nothing beats Jim Morrison in my eyes. He's not only a rock legend, a beautiful poet, but he is a man who lived to his full fucking potential HIS way. Musically, the rest of The Doors were right up there with him. From album one to L.A. Woman, there has not been a single mediocre song. Some tracks throughout the discography took time to grow on me (Been Down So Long, Easy Ride, Love Street), but after years of listening to the band, this era is perfect in every way, enough said.

Neutral Milk Hotel "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea"
Wow, what a classic. As somebody has said before, I couldn't say it better myself. "The passion is unbelievable, and the fact that it's 13 years old is crazy. It stands head and shoulder above the myriad bands who've attempted to emulate the sound. Fuzzy guitars, trumpets, noise, and lots of passionate, honest modern american folk, with that kind of singer who isn't a "good" singer (not terrible by any means though), but who puts so much fucking passion into their voice that you really don't care. In fact, you wouldn't want it any other way." Thankyou, sortalikeadream, for taking the words out of my mouth!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iipO9Tvk1EI

Comus "First Utterance"
For 1971, this is pure madness. With the lyrics about hanging Christians, insanity, and even more crazy talk complimented by the most bizarre vocal styles I have ever heard (from calming female vocals to nasty snarls so distinct, you'll never forget them). The music is on a whole new level itself. This is pure acid folk. Violins, odd percussions, two acoustics, flute.. there is no other way to describe this BUT perfect.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae5ckJTB5o8

Portraits of Past "01010101"
Some people may bash me for listening to screamo, but this is unlike most screamo I have heard. Instead of chaotic, this is more on the "emotional" side of screamo. The thick production just gets me every time, and that bass is just so fuckin' solid. Every song on here is catchy and full of depth, just amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBST71OOyrU

Mogwai "The Beast Is Howling"
What can I say? It's goddamn Mogwai. This is their latest album from 2008, and every song on this album has it's own story to tell. From the opener "I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead" (which is why I got this album on a whim, actually) the whole album is just a book of musical art. Even contains one of my favourite ever songs, "Local Authority".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDj67VZnbUw

Bat For Lashes "Fur And Gold"
The debut album from pop artist Natasha Khan (who is reminiscent of Kate Bush and Bjork) strikes a nerve with a classic album here. All the songs are well written and her voice is so dreamy. Very full sound, and a few songs are so catchy (such as the chorus to "Prescilla" - I sing that in my head for days)!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDfjVT1-mwY

The Beatles "Magical Mystery Tour"
I have nothing more to say other than EVERY SONG IS A CLASSIC! I'm pretty sure before I knew this album existed, I have heard every song on the album elsewhere. When I found this, it had all of my favourite Beatles tracks on one album. Score!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI1z7xgeGsI

Black Mountain "In The Future"
Grooving hard rock with some classic psychedelic touch to it. You've got some beautiful female vocals, nostalgic psychedelic synthesizers, fuzzed out hard rockin' riffs, you have the slower songs, and the epic 17 minute trip. This has it all, and if it weren't for having such a modern production, you would think this came straight out of '67. But instead, it's 2008! Far out, man!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5hsj8KsQ0U

Devendra Banhart "Rejoicing In Our Hands"
Verrrrry fine folk with a strange twist on it. Devendra's vocals are so unique, how can you not love them? His guitar playing is superb, just listen to the song "A Sight To Behold". Some songs are plain silly ("Todo Los Dolores") while others are so passionate ("Will Is My Friend"). Couldn't complain one bit. His EP "The Black Babies" also makes this list, for the same reasons. Unique voice, amazing songwriting, and the transition of feeling from each song is great. Really talented musician.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcUWwR1FPo8

For almost the same reasons as above, I can name "The Moon And Antarctica" and "No One's First, And You're Next EP" from Modest Mouse. Such a great band..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrVETr8w6Gw

The Tea Company "Come And Have Some Tea With Me"
An obscure psychedelic rock/pop band with a perfect album. This sums up the 60's love generation very well, and includes a better-than-the-original cover of Vanilla Fudge's "You Keep Me Hangin' On". Really happy sounding stuff, I love it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67jMpuHyrG0

Black Moth Super Rainbow "Lost, Picking Flowers In The Woods"
I don't know if this is a full-length or a compilation or what.. but whatever it is, it is fucking AWESOME. Really good psychedelic electronic/pop. At times it can be so happy and upbeat and then BAM! you're tripping balls with a giant caterpillar. This is some of the most psyched out music I have ever heard, and I love it. Good stuff. Can you tell I'm really into psychedelic music? Hahaha.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmvOA_-c ... re=related

Salem Mass "Witch Burning"
Apparently one of the classic occult rock albums from the early 70's, Salem Mass built a strong cult reputation from this release. Very Doors' influenced with the keyboards and the vocals are so amateur, they are hard not to love. Bass is too low in the mix though, which is a true shame, for there are some bass standout points. Each of the 7 songs on here are memorable and contain some real musicianship. Obscure psychedelic rock is great, and this is a fine example of some.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBIRHBN_3U4

The Cure
"Disintegration" : A very sad, sad album, with some of the best lyrics to come from Robert Smith, in my opinion. Such a lovely album in all ways.
"Faith" : A short album from The Cure, but has a few very bleak songs, and the rest are just so catchy and head-bob worthy.
"Pornography" : What can I say? One of the darkest post-punk albums I have heard (then again I don't know much of the genre) and contains some of the best songs from 80's history. "The Hanging Garden", "One Hundred Years", "Pornography", "A Strange Day" etc. can you get much better than these? Love them to death.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H04eB936P5Q

Stone Temple Pilots "Core"
Grunge/hard rock at it's finest. Every. Single. Song. Is perfect. Every. Single. Way. Scott Weiland has just perfect vocals for the style this album is played in, and the lyrics are so fucking awesome. Half or more of this album is composed of hits, and those that aren't hits are just as great (if not a bit more enjoyable!). "Wet My Bed" is so... out there, how can you not love it?? "Where The River Goes" is seriously the best way to end this album, no doubt about it. When I began smoking pot a few years back, I would put this album on repeat, smoke a lot of weed, and play Zelda: Twilight Princess FOR HOURS, every day. Loved every second of it. Not only is it a great album for musical reasons, but it has alot of sentimental value to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHmsLUwnfi8

Alright.. I think I'm done. Sorry :D
EDIT - Put in links.

Wonderful woodland beast of an album. As you say, there's nothing like it...even the second album doesn't even come close...I"m not sure if I'd rate it 100% or not, but really, I can say the same for anything I've picked, and it is certainly one of my favourite albums, too.

I should check out Black Mountain and Salem Witch.

Personally, I hear no faults in that Comus album. Every song is really pure, no matter the length or the style. Glad to see some appreciation for that album.

As far as Black Mountain goes, they have three albums, all really good, but In The Future is the best. This is probably one of my favourite tracks, and a fine example of their sound.

Salem Witch is awesome, but the vocals might turn off some people. Somewhat high pitched and the mixing isn't the greatest, but regardless, this album is perfect because I cannot imagine it any other way.

That Mogwai album is pretty boring. My least played of theirs for sure.

Areoplane Over The Sea is brilliant.

Magical Mystery Tour is excellent and overlooked/underrated. For a Beatles album anyway.

I agree with this, fantastic album. This one (and the group as a whole) grew on me after a couple of years, as I could not stand The Cure ten years ago, because I was (and still am) heavily into Metal, but after a few, dedicated, repeated spins of Disintegration it had me hooked. The wonderful, drab, yet beautiful atmosphere this album has is nothing short of astonishing, and unmatched. Possibly the only The Cure album I can come back to for repeated listens, along with Pornography.

Agreed. Mr. Beast is my favorite. Have you heard the leaked songs from their upcoming album? They sound pretty bad.

Also... that album is called The Hawk Is Howling. Not Beast.

There are only three albums I'd give 100%, and they're all non-metal albums.

The Clash - London Calling.
Guns 'N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction.
Immortal Technique - Revolutionary: Vol. 2.

Haven't heard new tracks. You are probably right though.

Last EITS didn't do much for me. Mono and Red Sparrowes latest were pretty good though i think.

Since the Blade Runner OST was mentioned I'd like to throw in Ennio Morricone's work on The Thing, very creepy and a great fit to an excellent movie.

Another one would be G.B.H.'s The Clay Years. A definite reason I started listening to punk rock, not counting thrash of course, and every thing off this comp was one awesome song after another.

Very true! John Carpenter was the one who made the actual theme to The Thing, right?

This reminds me that I will give any soundtrack Goblin did 100%. I have a few of their CD's and it's always a mind-blowing listen.

Dawn Of The Dead was a good Goblin album, although my favorite song from this movie will always be The Gonk.

Music Has The Right To Children- Boards of Canada

First Born- Eyedea and Abilities

No Gods, No Managers- Choking Victim

Just three off the top of my head. There's way more that I'd give 100% to, but I'm not about to post +9000 albums/bands that everyone else already has.

Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction. Start to finish an amazing album.

Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks. You have to be into this style of music for it to work, but from start to finish this album is great. Raw, angry and a real good kick in the teeth.

The Dark Knight - OST (Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard)

The only non-metal album that i can give a solid 100% . It's one gem of a soundtrack, a must listen, especially if u liked the movie. The album begins with a faint weird sound that gets louder and sharper as the track progresses... unforgettable. You can hear it during the introduction-scene of 'The Joker', at the beginning of the film. The whole album is like watching an unending train wreck...

 Hans Zimmer!

Awesome album, but HOLY FUCK has Crack-Rocksteady/Stza fanboyism gotten annoying as shit. Especially when kids call his bands Crust...NO, Crust is Anarcho Punk & Hardcore + Extreme Metal, Crust is fucking Doom, Nausea, Amebix, etc, the CRS bands live the crusty life style, but the music is not even close to Crust. Plus when people endlessly fap them it's just plain annoying regardless.
