What about bootlegs mentioned in the info of an album release? Somebody updated Sororicide - The Entity stating «This CD is also released by "Strike Force Records" in 2007.» However the Strike Force release is in no way official and is almost certainly a cheap CD-R copy by the infamous vegascds guy. If this "release" is even going to be mentioned it should be clear it's a bootleg so nobody spends a significant chunk of change on it before an official reissue is delivered (and yes, efforts are being made towards one).

If you encounter an album page that portrays a known bootleg as an official release, then you've found a good opportunity to use the report function.

Thank you for updating! There's actually a lot of info I can add about that release. How many points until one is able to edit that info?

There are _lots_ of bootlegs he's done. Basically anything on

Strike Force Records
Time Warp Records
Evil Eye Records
Mosh It Up Records
Hot Metal Records

is highly suspect.

I think you must be veteran with >500 points to edit some info. I have 600 something. I was never that often here

Hot Metal Records is a greek bootleg label.

It would be good to add infos on those albums that got "reissued" to inform people, so they wont like to get these or at least wont pay a fortune to copied crap.

Ahh, Hot Metal was in the same list.

The first three (Strike Force, Time Warm, Evil Eye) are for sure him.

I'm told there are bootlegs of these: PARIAH, A.R.G., Capricorn,
Vulture, Taramis, Tyran Pace, Aggressor, Razor, Forbidden and
Cutty Sark.

I agree though, a list would be very helpful. To be truthful the guy has bootlegged so much stuff I don't think he even knows what he's bootlegged! Perhaps a sticky or a new thread would be helpful.

Ive updated those I could find in the new alias. Unfortunately ebay is preventing me to look on all auctions for whatever reasons.
I added bootleg info on God Macabre, Iceland, Agressor and whatnot. Dont remember all.

I guess it is high time to make a thread about the growing number of bootlegs that are circulating in the scene

Many of you have been astonished recently because they were dursted for adding bootlegs

"oh I did not know it was a bootleg"

Let's use this thread to make a list (as complete as possible) and afterwards, people, you won't have ANY excuse if you add Bootlegs

Let's add mostly the most "known" bootlegs circulating, those which are often added by users

If you are not sure about an album you wish to add but you are not sure if it is official or not , just ask here for confirmation

I'll update this list regularly to make a "summary" of the bootlegs on the list on this 1st page

Thanks

Bootlegs as in albums published, produced or distributed without the consent of the band. This does not include merchandise or fan-created shirts.

Do you mean True Kings of Norway? As far as I know, it's an official release. I did some research, but no results came up giving a confirmation about it indeed being a bootleg release. If you can provide sources (links) for your claims, that would be helpful.

Pretty sure this is a bootleg:

metal-archives.com/release.php?id=166292

Kamelot doesn't seem to have a discography on their official website, but they do on their official myspace, and this release isn't listed (their discography on their myspace page goes in chronological order, so this release would be the very first if it were official). The myspace page is http://www.myspace.com/kamelot.

Not to mention a few other "odd" things about this release:

The track "Once and Future King" is listed as "Future Kings" (sure, sometimes misprings happen...).

A member on the official forum claims that the backside claims it to have been released by a sublabel that had shut down long before 2007 (this is just forum talk, though...not real evidence, I suppose).

It's never been mentioned on Kamelot's website (surely, they would've put up something promoting it if it were an official release, not to mention the administrators there consider it a bootleg).

It contains songs owned by two completely different companies (Universal and SPV).

I know forum talk isn't really evidence, but you'll notice that even the administrator of the official site (Post #8) says it's a bootleg.

http://www.kamelot.com/kamforum/index.p ... =9787&st=0

None of Kamelot's official sites have this release listed.

Why don't you just ask the band for clarification, hm? I think they will also be interested in setting this matter straight.

As a pre-1985 era Rush fan, I have owned or at least listened to most of their early albums, but I recently came across a live LP called "Fifth Order of Angels" that had some early unreleased tracks on it. I am not sure if this is a "new" release, but it is not listed on their M-A page, and I certainly dont want to be a dumbass and go add it if it's not legit. So, is "Fifth Order of Angels" a legitimate Rush album or not? (Even if it's not, I still wouldnt mind owning a copy.)

Then somebody ought to make it sticky again... because this thread's kind of an important one.

Yet, when it was a sticky, the thread got sometimes no posts at all for several months. Since we had already enough stickies, we got rid of this one.

But shouldn't there be a constant resource at hand? I'm sure it's been suggested, time and again, that there be a separate section on the site for listing bootlegs...

Sólstafir's 1997 promo tape was deleted shortly after I added it today. I didn't realise it was consided an unofficial release - I took it to be an official promo due to its mention in the band's Myspace blog entry here: http://www.myspace.com/solstafir/blog/524362045

Sorry about that. Does this mean the 2004 promo entry will be removed as well?

This thread isn't comprehensive enough to deserve a sticky. It's not even that useful.

Usually you can easily find out if an album is a bootleg or not. Just google for it. If someone is lazy enough that he can't even google an album, it's not a sticky that's going to help him.

The Kamelot bootleg seems to have been re-added by someone. It had been removed, but it now appears that someone has recently added it again.

http://www.myspace.com/jerkoffrecords
keeps getting mentioned as a bootlegger label:
https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=% ... =firefox-a

http://www.myspace.com/grindblockrecords/blog/540331597

Does anyone know whether this is a legit release?
http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=287930

Maybe each of the label's release should be checked.

Hello,

Please don't bash me for bringing up an ancient question here, but it's about Burzum's Draugen - Rarities, which I cannot add. Originally a bootleg, yes, but the BoB version seems to be listed as an official compilation on the Burzum site.

http://www.burzum.org/eng/discography/c ... ties.shtml

Just like The Oath Of Black Blood, originally unofficial, but released later on with a total permission from the band.
Could it be accepted, or is the standpoint of MA still against it?

Greetz,
DismalSolitude

Hello,

Please somebody can tell me why, a zine release appears on Sepultura's discography. I don't belive this is a valid release; it's not part of the band's official discography. Thanks

It is valid because it was publicly available. Most bands don't count them in their discography because they are special/gift releases to promote the band or a release rather than a full separate album or similar, but as long as it was publicly available, it is valid by our standards.

The Nod - Nodding Off! is considered a bootleg by the band. When I found this out, I filed a report and got my addition removed. However, it's not common knowledge, so it should probably be mentioned in the band's description. Nothing against the user who has added it back, as it'll probably keep getting added by people if they haven't learned the story behind the release.

Here's what band leader Darren wrote about its status. You need to be logged into FB for the link to take you directly to the comment. Otherwise it's in reply to the photo with Iron Maiden members he posted:
Quote:
we recorded it about a month before the concert as a live in the studio,no overdubs demo for the sound engineer so He could get familiar with the new songs..then it was stolen & illegally printed & released bout a year later by a homosexual cocksucker !
https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewZeal ... 4465304967

The story I heard but can't confirm is that it was released by an ex-member to recover costs of recording the previous album. Hence why he used S002 as the catalog no. and felt he had the right to make it look like the band's next legitimate release.
