He asked for funeral doom, dude...And Ghost isn't proto doom. Proto doom must be something before Sabbath, stuff like Blue Cheer perhaps. Ghost isn't even doom to be honest.

My favs funeral doom bands: Esoteric, Skepticism, Mournful Congregation, not a big fan of the genre though.

Sorry, I was asking for suggestions, I should have put a question mark

Slightly odd request, I'm looking for stoner metal with hindu themes after casually looking at wikipedia because I'm sad like that, and thinking that that stuff would fit stoner to a tee.

I just want to emphasize the importance of Sleep - Dopesmoker for the noobs. Seriously one of the best doom albums, hard to find anything like it that so perfectly mashes up a lovecraftian sense of dread and sabbathian psychedelia.

I always preferred Holy Mountain to be honest, Dopesmoker never really held my interest for the length of time it demanded, even when I was stoned out of my mind.

Currently playing Kylesa's Static Tension. Amazing stuff, can't believe I've been dismissing the band for quite sometime. What the hell did I think?

Static Tensions is probably one of my favorite albums of all time, it's great. Seconding what the other guy said about Spiral Shadow though, it's less heavy and just not as good as Static Tensions, which I think is the peak of everything they've ever done.

There're hindu themes and much more in Samsara Blues Experiment.

Same here. But I could live without any Sleep album to tell the truth. Only stonerish stuff I couldn't live without are the few first Kyuss albums.

Y'know, I thought the same (about The Circus Leaves...), but after listening to it a bit more, it's become something of a slow burner for me, and I think I prefer it to Wretch, to be honest.

I'm looking for something like Coffins but without the Death Metal elements. Corrupted comes very close, but not what I'm after.

I never tried OM, I feared this would be boring as hell. Is it similar to BONG - which do bore me to death?

Om's more varied than Bong. They're more sludgy, doomy stoner with spiritual stuff thrown in. But they're not boring. Give them a chance.

Hey, i've been looking for a sludge/stoner band since a couple of months from now, the sound i'm looking for is something kinda like the one of Black Label Society's Sonic Brew album or Clutch. That's clean, maybe a little growled vocals, valvular amps and really heavy distortions. Happen to know any?

Try Planet Of Zeus, they have some sludgy/stoner/southern vibes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mii3kH1vDOs

Also try Bear Brawler for some sludge/stoner stuff, although they have a far more distorted sound to them

Recommended, the vocals could be improved, but the fuzzy riffs are solid.

I haven't listened to them for ages but I've always wanted to see them live. A friend of mine from Nevada will be coming into town for Xibalba and Despise You, I don't think he even knows what Drone is so it should be fun to see his reaction.

^ Cool shit, especially dig the vocals.

I'm looking for doom mixed with psychedelia. I know a lot of stoner/doom bands have psychedelic influences, but I'm looking for pretty close to a 50/50 split, where the psychedelia is just as important as the doom. The biggest reference I can think of is Naam. Acrimony and maybe Egypt are the only other ones I can think of.

I'm looking for nautical sounding sludge and doom similar to songs like "Hearts Alive" by Mastodon, and "The Hunt" by Ahab. Thanks.

You should check Moonless, Samsara Blues Experiment and Woburn House. Germany are good at psych stoner/doom.

Also "nautical" isn't really a thing...

Thanks Tony, already a big fan of Samsara Blues Experiment, but haven't heard of the two other bands. I really like them both, especially Woburn House (who are 100% what I was looking for). Listening to songs off their most recent album right now and I'm completely blown away.

@Frozen Doom, Fungoid Stream are Funeral Doom (you mentioned Ahab) and they seem to have somewhat of a nautik vibe, really weird atmospheres. Look past the name, great band. Probably way too obvious, but Isis's Oceanic is probably THE nautical themed sludge album.

@dystopia4, thanks for the suggestions. Fungoid Stream is awesome, and I didn't even think about ISIS ( I'm a bit of a noob to doom/stoner/sludge metal ).

This here is a recommendation to all who enjoy Electric Wizard, The Wounded Kings and Cough. New German band named Black Doom. Not the greatest band name ever, we can agree upon that, but the music is rock solid. Check it out.

I'm looking for just some new bands to listen to. I like electric wizard, acid bath, reverend bizarre, witch mountain, candlemass, sleep, black sabbath. I have a lot of material to catch up on listening to for all the bands I just listed, but anyway...

Awesome! Thank for the rec. Great stuff! I got super excited when I saw the three bands you mentioned.

Read the thread, I guess, lots of recommendations to be found.

Here's 3, The Gates of Slumber, Orodruin and Lord Vicar.

Also, SubRosa No Help for the mighty ones, Horn of the rhino Grengus & weight of coronation & Pallbearer Sorrow & extinction.

I'm just going to assume you've listened to Trouble (early material) & Saint Vitus. If not you've got a lot of catching up to do.
