Century Media Records has signed Dutch death metal/doom outfit Grand Supreme Blood Court to a worldwide recording deal.

The band was founded in 2011 by former Asphyx guitarist Eric Daniels, who subsequently recruited his former Asphyx cohorts Martin van Drunen and Bob Bagchus to join.

Daniels comments: "GSBC is a five-piece band, with two guitar-players, in order to give more heaviness and possibilities to the songs. That differs from Asphyx, as well as the fact that we down-tuned to B and the challenge between heaviness and brutality. The structure of the songs is more basic, riffs will tell the story, we don't hesitate to play riffs longer if it feels right. GSBC is more brutal, saw-like playing than Asphyx what will be noticeable in the sound. Shortly said: GSBC is a band standing at its own, no wink to Asphyx, no connection."

The band's debut album will be completed this spring and should hit streets this fall.

Okay I'm interested in hearing this cause I'm betting it'll be awesome.. but who else thinks that's one of the dumbest band names I've ever heard... and I'm including derpcore shit like Eat a helicopter

Yeah, I kind of hate their band name, but the members involved are a bit undeniable in their legacies. Will definitely be interested in keeping an eye on this project.

Yea I'll be keeping an eye out.. I like how it says... oh it's a band standing on it's own no wink to Asphyx... aside from having the ex-guitarist, vocalist, and drummer. They are going to have to suck up all the reviews that are going to compare the two regardless to their desires.

These guys are finally active as hell. More Van Drunen is a good thing. Man needs more albums graced by his vocals. That band name sucks, though.

Hopefully between the three of them there's enough combined experience to understand that nothing they can say will stop the comparisons to Asphyx. With that being said I'm hoping they don't sound very similar at all. I'd love to see them emphasise the DOOM far more than the death and see how that turns out.

That's kinda what I'm getting out of the hints they are saying... a more doom direction with this project which I'll welcome.

I wish Eric Daniels would simply rejoin Asphyx. There's room there for two guitarists, and it might allow a wider variety in songwriting. Asphyx does doom and death metal equally well. Plus Eric's haunting leads are missing these days.

This seems like an odd way to bring this group out. There is so much hype already, and there is nothing more than a little quote, a cheap picture, and no demo tracks at all. They don't even have an Archives page, which only makes me think this shit is either a little unplanned or just them trying to over hype a band with no real writing progress made yet. Also key worlds like "worldwide recording deal"... Century Media? Come on, that word usage is so fucking dramatic.

Heres me thinking all the time were or what Daniels has been up to and all three members come along at once! Fuck I am very keen to hear what they come up with. Always loved Eric's guitar work and sound.

WTF? Sounds similar like Hail Of Bullets, in some respects. Saw like guitars? Check. Van Drunen? Check. Down-tuned to B? Check. I'm all for more related stuff, I guess, but I hope it doesn't take away from the other projects that I know I like as much or more than anything else that's being done.

Then again, more bands fronted by the best vocalist in death metal surely can only be a good thing, right?

I'm nothing but excited about this. You'd think it might come out sounding like Soulburn, which admittedly sounded a lot like Asphyx. Anyway, it's good to hear that Eric Daniels is still musically active. Also great to know that he's teamed up with his old cohorts. Always kind of wondered why he's not still in Asphyx, but I assume it's got something to do with their rigorous touring schedule. Seems that I read that somewhere...

Sure, the band name sounds silly when you say it, but the logo does it justice.

Anyway, I'm sure this will rule and I can't wait to hear it.

Had no idea about this, but I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the record when it drops. I love big, grinding, heavy doom/death chord work outs, so hopefully it will deliver. The band name is a bit meh, but it'll do.

When was the last time Martin van Drunen did two releases in a row with the same band? He's hopping about a lot between Asphyx, Hail of Bullets, all his guest appearances and now this.

I had forgotten all about this! Thanks for bumping this and confirming that at least it's on track in recording. I still don't like the name.

The band name rules, fuck y'all.

I've been listening to the new Asphyx more and more lately, so I'm starting to get pumped about this. Gonna rule!

I agree the band name sucks. Pretentious and unnecessarily long. Although I listen to a ton of bands who have names that suck or just don't matter all that much to me. You either have good music or you don't. Plenty of bands with good names suck (see: Necrovation and countless others).

I'm excited for this. Wish they'd give us a taste/teaser!

I hear so many bands predict a release date that's months incorrect. I'd take that with a grain of salt while they're still recording the darn thing.

In my experience, vocals usually come last when recording, so this will probably meet that October deadline. Or at least somewhere in the neighborhood.

For some reason, that (rad) artwork gives me a Hooded Menace sort of vibe. Not sure if it's the logo or what...fuck it I'm probably delusional. Anyways, this got me pumped even more.

It's probably the guys with the hoods... :oh shit:

Cool artwork and it seems that a song preview will be available within a couple of weeks. It will be interesting to hear it and see where this goes.

Yeah me too, I fuckin love his razor sharp guitar tone and those huge palm muted riffs, so crushing. This is the only thing missing from the new Asphyx albums IMO, don't get me wrong I still love those releases I just think Eric would 'add some' if you know what I mean. Looking forward to hearing this one.
