does anybody know of any Norsecore-style black metal with Gothenburg riffs thrown in occasionally? I'm not looking for anything like Dissection, Sacramentum or Thulcandra and Unanimated. Not the typical melodeath/black mix, but literally Norsecore with occasional Gothenburg riffs.

Have you heard Dark Fortress' debut? They're mostly known as a symphonic black metal band, but many of their riffs on their first album are phrased in a similar way and carry similar melodic patterns to Dark Tranquillity's The Gallery or The Mind's I, just played a bit faster. Hope that helps.

For the request quoted above, you might want to check out Mutilation Rites. It's a bunch of neckbeards playing black metal, so naturally their style is impure for the lack of a better word. There is some very superficial Godspeed You! Black Emperor influence, but mostly it's black metal in the vein of Cobalt with the occasional grandiose melodic passage. The music (on Empyrean) is disjointed and poorly structured, but many individual passages are quite excellent. I've heard some releases by them besides the full-length, but they're not very impressive - delve deeper into their discography only if you enjoy the album proper.

I remember hearing a black metal band some time ago who had lyrics involving hospitals, but can't remember the name of them. Pretty sure that they're very well known around these parts, anybody know what band they are?

I'm looking for black metal that's in the same vein as the album Om by Negura Bunget. Does anyone know any bands, or more preferably, certain albums that are similar? Thanks in advance.

Can anybody recommend me some more black/thrash? My favorite bands in the style are Aura Noir, Nifelheim, Nocturnal Breed, Absu, Necrodeath, Destroyer 666, etc...

Jayke: Check out Flagellator for some of my favorite black thrashing ever. It was a one-off side project of Akhenaten from Judas Iscariot, though they sound mostly nothing alike. Here's a random track off the album:

Dødheimsgard's Monumental Possession people sleep on how good a release that is.

'nother one.
Does anybody have anything similar to From the Devil's Tomb by Weapon? The Inner Wolf has been on repeat on my iPod for about a week now and I was curious as to what other bands play a similar style of black/death metal.

^ I think jayke may have forgotten his request. He's been really active in the Death Help Thread! I hate making a recommendation that I think is fucking superb and then never getting any feedback on it. I do this purely out of selfishness, for the back-patting!

Don't forget my doom contributions, I could use a pat on the back too!

Joking aside, I haven't listened to it yet after getting all of those death metal recos. Being a big JI fan though, I'm sure I'll enjoy Akhenaton playing black/thrash. I keep meaning to check out Sarcophagus too, the vocalist of my band knew Andy when he was doing Sarcophagus and Judas Iscariot, and he said they were more death metal oriented. He said that despite the one man nihilistic black metal stigma, Andy was always a cool guy to him, which I found a bit surprising.

Re: The other suggestions,

I have Monumental Possession and it is indeed awesome, I actually like it more than Kronet Til Konge. I also have all of Witchery's stuff (despite their last few albums being subpar), and I also have most of Bewitched's albums. I will be checking out the others though, I haven't forgotten and appreciate the help!

Can anyone recommend me some black metal bands with keyboards? Not necessarily symphonic black metal.
A really good example of what I'm looking for is Burzum's Dunkelheit. Also wtf is that shit Varg is using?? I really like it. Like a lot. I must know.

Check out Windir if that's not too obvious.

I am looking for bands like Woods of Desolation; atmospheric depressive black metal with lots of acoustic guitar, shoegazing and an emphasis on nature.

@ Jonpo,

I think you were the one that recommended me some stuff like Mystifier and Amon before, and all of the stuff I checked out sounded awesome, I've just been having a tough time finding it. The Worship was on eBay last time I looked for about $30, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend that much, same story with Mystifier. I doubt there are any reissues on the horizon for these, so other than getting lucky at a used CD shop, am I stuck waiting for a better online listing, or does anyone actually have these in stock?

Vrolok, while not bearing much in the way of dark ambient, was very good. I love bm that has that kind of atmosphere of urban decay. As for Menace Ruine, I'm a long time fan, and their debut definitely fits the bill. Thanks!

has anybody heard the new Winterfylleth yet? I haven't been able to find it on the internet so far but it's apparently been out for a couple weeks now, I finally listened to Void of light today and I'm hooked on those melodies. I've heard the new being called Black metal album of the year by some reviewers and shit... can anyone back up such a claim who's heard the whole album?
here's the one track i've heard so far, good luck finding the rest of the album though...http://www.nocleansinging.com/2012/08/0 ... -of-light/
