And to think I thought he was saying Negatron all this time...

Speaking of lyrics, I've always found the lyrics on Helloween's Halloween to be rather silly, if only because I have yet to find any other metal band that has written lyrics about Charlie Brown.

The mac-daddy of weird Helloween lyrics will always be Rise and Fall. Incidentally, it's also one of my favorites.

The production is completely plastic and artificial. "Supposedly death metal" because of the breakdowns and wimpy metalcore riffs. I don't actually care what genre they are, but there are many similarities with deathcore and metalcore. It's absolutely not pure death metal, and if you enjoy "Icon" you probably enjoy deathcore aswell.

Surprised no one has mentioned these gems by Nattefrost yet. Not really surprising considering it's Nattefrost but still...

Intro to 'Preteen Deathfuck' really made me look around when I first listened to the album. Was at my friends flat and we were blasting the album out while having a few drinks. That started and we were sure the police would have been called.

'Nattefrost Takes a Piss' first time I heard this I just couldn't understand why there is a recording of the musician having a leak!

'Eine kleine Arschmuzick' basically just Nattefrost with diarrhoea.

Also the beginning of a song by Dark Fortress always makes me chuckle (can't remember the name it's on Seance about halfway through the album) the singer does a really deep burp to start the vocals.

Marduk had a few moments on Rom 5:12 where Mortuus done almost a black metal James Hetfield impersonation.

The lounge music break on Red Skinned Scapegoat from the new Cryptopsy album. Absolutely out of the blue and just kind of happens. It's the musical equivalent of a Big Lipped Alligator Moment.

No, they're not, but he found it strange that on such a well-known and respected record there was such a piece.

Metalcore riffs? :durr:

I not only enjoy Icon, but I love it. I also happen to despise deathcore. There isn't a single deathcore band that I've found enjoyable. So there goes that logic.

I was going to bring up Nattefrost for this thread but had to do some research on the exact songs I'm thinking of.

Now the porn/scatological samples shouldn't be too WTF, as he's incorporated these things as far back as Carpathian Forest's Black Shining Leather, (although they are still rather obnoxious).

Natterfrost's has two really WTF moments. First you have "Still Reaching For Hell" on Blood & Vomit. Total runtime of 6:01, with the first 3:21 consisting of (somewhat expected) weirdo ambient noises, but the real WTF moment here is the remaining 2:39, which is just some truly bizarre marching band music. Then on Terrorist (awesome album BTW) you have "Dinsadansdjeveldyrkaar!!!" which is a straightforward rock song with these really, really strange cartoon like clean vocals.

Nattefrost is an odd guy, apparently

If you hate peachiness in DT, then you should steer very clear of A Dramatic Turn Of Events, as the lyrics to this album are largely right wing American propaganda (regardless of your personal political positions, this album is very preachy). And too be fair, DT has stated that "The Great Debate" was supposed to be their attempt to discuss the stem cell research issue neutrally, presenting both side of the argument.

The song "Black Arrows" on Manowar's "Hail to England" album.

Now bearing in mind this was the 1st Manowar album i listened too and i was unaware of Demaio's love for these overly flambouyant bass solo's.

Holy crap its awful and i didnt expect something like that all. The tone of the bass is absolutely torture to listen too.

The last track or two on Root albums, i've noticed, are usually "wtf moments".

The Temple in the Underworld: A big drum solo accompanied by Big Boss cackling madly, then doodling around with a childish melody on a cheap old keyboard for a while.

The Book: A distorted dialogue between a tiny voiced creature and a big-ass thing that's completely uncomprehensible, followed by the words "Yes! I know!", a giant thunderclap, and then a crazy piano solo that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

The Black Seal: one of the coolest songs on the album, until all the music fades out except for a harmonised vocal chorus, that repeats the same lines for about twenty minutes.

Daemon Viam Invenieunt: Big Boss chanting "You can't always get what you want" in various cartoonish voices, followed by a chugging one-chord march.

madness of the Graves: Big Boss has a ridiculous amount of fun with an effects processor as he distorts his voice in about a thousand different ways to sound like the speeches of several diffrent aliens or demons. Can't understand a bloody word they're saying, but they sound very amused and gleeful. All this is accompanied by pounding tribal percussion, and then a beautiful piano/vocal piece.

 I think I've only listened to that entire song once. The first 4 minutes are really great, though! Mad bastards.

haha, I'm pretty sure I"ve fallen asleep to Big Boss's incantation at least once. It's sure less annoying than that Neurosis album that ends in a similar vein, or the Brutal Truth one that just has Kevin Sharpe screaming "Pray!" over and over again.

This was another WTF moment for me back in '97 when this album first came out, but for some inexplicable reason, I just love this track (even back then). I never end this album before all 21:50 of it expires, and I also never skip it when my iPod's shuffle comes to it. I just find it absurdly mesmerizing or hypnotizing, I guess.

“Back in the day”, as it were, I used to get a kick from casually putting this on in the background at a lower volume and watching my family and friends be slowly unnerved by it when they eventually realized the same 9 second sample was on in the background for 20 minutes or so. Nowadays, I guess I just appreciate it for the aesthetics.

It took me some time to realize that the looped sample is an excerpt of 1:12-1:21 of "Average People" from the same album.

Damn, Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom is such a beastly and savage album-I have to put it on right now. I'll end up flinging shit at my coworkers and stomping around the office like an ape.

 I really hate it, and I actually do think the album is pretty awesome, too. I fully endorse the plan to begin a Animal Kingdom-inspired killing rage at work though.

Sleeps holy mountain is one of my favorites and the riffs on that album are so relentless. It's part of the really early stoner rock movement from the 90s. But there's one song on there called "some grass" and it's a really cool 45 second long blue grass tune, right smack in the middle of the raw power, high gain awesomeness that is holy mountain.

I always figured it was an homage to the Orchid interlude that Sabbath put on Master Of Reality. Then again, Sabbath's acoustic interludes never made much sense to begin with either... :P

Lo Ruhamah - The Glory of God.
Nice album but the ill timed, off-key clean vocals littered through it almost ruin it for me,
They make me cringe every single time

I saw a mention of Taake here and I'll add another: Doedskvad part VII. At around 6 minutes, "Oh, oh yeah, oh" comes in and almost ruins an awesome riff.

 Taake is awesome for this kind of thing. In either track 1 or track 2 on the Doedskvad album, he shouts something in Norwegian which I cannot for the life of me hear as anything other than 'PSYCHADELIC!'

What about the moment in track 3 of Ulver's 'Bergtatt' album, when there's suddenly a shot/bang sound much louder than the rest of that song? Just about makes me fall over when I hear that on headphones.

Got another Taake moment here. It's on Bjoergvin when the song with the jaw's harp(i think it's called that way) comes on. The first time I listened to the album I was realy suprised when suddenly that 'boing' sound apeared for the first time. It even took me a while to recognize that that sound was coming from the record I was just listening to

Many albums have samples and they may not be considered WTF moments as much, but the pair on Gutteral Secrete's song 'Coprophilic Asphyxia' really crack me up.

Beginning of song woman says: "What is it about good sex that makes me have ta crap?"

End of song she says: "You really jarred somethin' loose, tiger"

;)

The entire Slagry album by Master's Hammer just felt like a massive attempt to troll every black metal fan that has ever existed and ever will exist, odd music not necessarily bad.

As was already pointed out, that's actually Fenriz (or might even be Zephyrous) and he is introducing Nocturno Culto as he comes in with the vocals right afterwards.

obvious wtf moments :

-seeing the video for cherry orchard...followed by (still) listening to that album for the first time

-excited and frantic running into and out of a shop with the black album the day it came out, and my first spin of that abomination

-hearing one second by paradise lost after placeing icon on a pedestal

-hearing primus for the frist time (tommy the cat)

-hearing deadly sinners by 3 inch bloods

-my first exposure to crotchduster

I was waiting for the awesome thrash that never came for an hour or so. I actually gave it a few more listens in an attempt to see if I had missed something, but no such luck. It was possibly the WORST moment of my metal teenages (but good in that I have never placed any band on such a high pedestal since then).

Well, Dan Swano is a big fan of old school goth rock, and especially loves Sisters of Mercy. Sacrificed seems to be his little tribute to that particular music style, and while I agree that it indeed doesn't fit with the general mood of TSS, it's still a great song and I like it for what it is (not to mention it must be easily one of the catchiest tunes ever penned down by Dan). Besides, isn't The Spectral Sorrows a rather weird album on the first place, at least for Swedeath standards?

I think "Sacrificed" is a great song, and the Manowar cover too. Both of them are WTF moments but in good ways, and make the album interesting and a cut above some other albums in the scene...they give the band identity.
