Hello everyone.

I have searched for this subject within the forum, and for my surprise I haven't found any post about it.

Does anyone know if there are at least future plans for a Metal-Archives app for iPhone, Android or Metro?

I have an iPhone and I use to access metal archives a lot from it, mainly when I'm listening to new bands with it. Though the website takes a while to load on the iPhone, so it would be really nice to have a proper app for that.

I really hope it comes up sometime soon.

I still use the Android one and it is fairly basic although it does everything I need it to do. The only thing I wish it had was some sort of built in forum support to make browsing/posting easier to do from a phone.

An app for the iPhone would be amazing.

The Android one is really good when it works. It tends to crash when I so much as look at it sideways.

I wouldn't complain about a Windows/Metro/Windows Phone app, since I'm running Windows 8 on my laptop and have a Windows 8 phone... :)

Guys, I never understood this craze. If your smartphone HAS access to the internet, WHY would you ever visit a website through an app instead of the browser? These kinds of website apps are very basic and don't have access to most features, including the forums. I personally have a shortcut for the website on my android's home screen and that suits me perfectly.

In terms of viewing the forums, I use chrome as my browser on android. It's quite nifty and it zooms in and out nicely while displaying the text crisply. I have the google nexus s (4 inch screen) just so you know, and that might give you a better idea on comparing your experience with mine.

The only issue comes in typing posts, for which brevity is not a choice >_<

Laptop came pre-installed, I'm used to Windows, too lazy to install/learn a new US, list goes on.

Windows Phone is actually pretty good, but then I can't stand iOS and Android doesn't particularly tickle my fancy either.

Brilliant, the Android app is really, really good. It makes it really easy to read lyrics/reviews while listening on my phone. It's a bit of a faff to get the full site to display well on the phone... so 2 thumbs up to whoever made this!

Ah, the old days when a phone was actually used for calling/texting. Remember those? Now all this generation has got their nose stuck in their damn Whatever the Hell You Call It Version 3-phone.

An app is a lot more convenient, but yes, my iPhone has Internet on it so I just bookmarked the site and I'm good to go.

It's faster. I find the app very useful when I'm in a record store and want to quickly look up info about a specific release, but this is pretty much the only time I use it.

I use the android one all the time, it serves its purpose to simply look up bands or albums when I don't have time to get on the computer or use my web browser on my phone.

Exactly. I have the site saved on my iphone and access it whenever I want to look up a release.

^ I always think of that as "fuck this, fuck you" even though I know it's for "fixed that for you". It makes Morrigan seem much more sadistic with the former definition.

An app is supposed to have all the images and componentes pre-loaded, saving bandwidth and time to download them, and also, Metal-Archives website isn't enhanced to work on a smartphone, like wikipedia, for example. "m.wikipedia.com" and a whole bunch of famous websites. a "m.metal-archives" would be amazing, but even better and faster/reliable/convinient would be a App for Android/iPhone/Metro.

I'm still dreaming about it.

I am an IT professional, even though I was a programmer its not my expertise, and I know nothing about Objective-C (iPhone's running programming language) and I don't really have time to study it. If I could, I'd surely dive on that.

Remember when mobile phones were too fucking heavy and colossally proportioned to be actually portable? Yeah, those were the times.

I think Dave hit it on the head. A mobile specific version of the site would be wonderful, because accessing the regular site through a mobile browser is a chore. Hence where an app is useful. I can't imagine loading all the album art into it would be advisable though. That must be a pretty substantial amount of data, only a minuscule fraction of which you'd use.

Sometimes this information is helpful if you see a CD or record for sale and want to know more about it on the spot.
