Darkthrone - Blacksmith of the North (Keep That Ancient Fire)
Holy shit that opening riff put me on a good one! First time listening to Dark Thrones and Black Flags and so far, it's amazing.

Rotten Sound - Exit

Not as good as Murderworks, but this one is close! Rotten Sound at the best point in their career (even though Cursed is pretty good). Great grind.

Oh, the blasphemy! :p I love Rotten Sound and Exit is by far their best work, and probably the best example of Kai's abilities on the drums. It's just out of this world. I agree with Cursed being great though, it actually surprised me how catchy it is.

Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale

So I continue on downers, and this is one of the most tripped out, psychedelic and demented ones I've ever encountered. If all funeral doom would be half as dynamic as this it would have a lot more fans.

Metallica - The Shortest Straw

Say what you want about this album but I still think it features some of the best riffing Metallica ever came up with.

Striker - It Could be Worse

Probably one of my most played albums in a while; infinitely catchy and outright solid.

An Autumn for Crippled Children - Past Tense

A bit refreshing, after all the old-school stuff I've been listening to.

Gates Of Ishtar - The dawn of flames

Very good example of how the Swedish Black/Death cult is done. Thrilling, catchy and touching without being too kitschy. The keyboards are unnecessary though.

Mors Principium Est - I Will Return
I never bothered too much about this band until just now. But already 3 songs into the album and I think I can go for multiple listens.

Really cool. It's somewhere in my top 10, but just unsure where. That opening track is so good.

Ophis - Withered Shades

I like this one better than their debut, Streams of Misery. Nothing too special about it - standard death/doom with some faster sections scattered - but it's competent and is worth hunting down.

On the second last song (One Man Stands) of Anthrax - Persistence Of Time

Damn Joey has a sick voice. He uses a lot of restraint on this one, which adds tension, and payoff when he finally lets loose.

Chocked full with ridiculously catchy riffs, simply awesome. Making a top 10 is going to be really difficult this year, some worthy albums are going to miss out.
