You know that:

1) You're talking about a gothic metal band (so the name fits perfectly).
2) Tears are not only associated with sorrow but also with other emotions (happiness z. B.), or even with normal physiological responses.

RIGHT?

Now, I can only think about Destroyer 666 as a bad name for now. 666 on a band name - now THAT'S a cliché!

if you think a band name consisting of an adjective followed by a noun is pretentious, then what kind of names do you like?

Ah, after reading my post back to myself I can see how it could be taken the wrong way. I didn't mean that an adjective/noun combo is pretentious. What I mean to say is that I hate taking a pretentious adjective, a real $50 word that only assholes try to slip into normal conversation, and pairing it up with a noun. Despondent Chants. Tenebrous Shadow. Iniquitous Deeds.

When you tell somebody that you're in a band called Iniquitous Deeds, what you're really saying is, "I have very little to offer to humanity or a conversation over five minutes long. I won't take offense if you kill yourself while I talk about my World of Warcraft fan fiction. Hey, do you like boogers?"

"Manilla Road"

Never found this sounding very metal. Not that it is a must for a metal band, but still, it 'feels' unfitting.

The band wasn't the epitome of metal when it started, anyway. The name was, according to a later Shelton interview, something they came up with in early morning drunken stupour, supposed to mean the road of light or something to that effect.

A manilla is a kind of bracelet that was used as currency in West Africa in old times. The name always struck me as meaning "the road to Mali" or something exotic and adventurous like that.

I think Circle of Dead Children is an awesome name. I don't think "stupid brutal" when I hear it, I think "twisted as fuck". I mean, if they just wanted to be brutal, they could've gone with Splattered Babies or Pile of Dead Children or whatever, but dead kids arranged in a circle? For some weird ritual, or from a fucked up dream or something? That's creepy as fuck dude.

Total agreement on this.

Sticking strictly to metal, and not veering off into the deliberately poorly named -core bands, 'Eyehategod' has always irked me for some reason. It's one of those things that someone thought was much more clever than it actually ended up being. I don't find it offensive, not being religious; I just think that it's not nearly as smart as whoever named that band thought it was.

EHG is actually pretty "-core", you know... I mean, Sludge is pretty "-core" by definition.
And anyone who can't hear the parallels between Sludge and 90's Metalcore vocalists is in denial (especially in EHG's case).

Just sayin'.

More shit names:
I started a bedroom Noisecore project called "Cumfart" around '03 and recorded stuff on a microcassette.
Eventually, I switched to the infinitely classier name, "Rectal Necrosis"... None of the songs are about gore or porn or forced nihilism or misanthropy, despite the lame name, at least.

I actually kind of like that the name is misleading in that respect.

Sludge has hardcore punk influences. Tons of them, in fact. Not something that's very difficult to understand, really.

Make a Change...Kill Yourself. I stumbled across a review of this band on Sputnik Music and my immediate thought was "That name is incredibly stupid".

Where have you been? Melvins state Black Flag are a bigger influence then Black Sabbath and Eyehategod has a ton of hardcore punk iffs espeically with their faster riffs like in My Name is God (I Hate You).

Agreed !

Still, I guess 99% of us can't come out with a good name. Writing down a name for a song is difficult, imagine how hard it is for the name of a band when you haven't even released more than just a bunch of demos. I'd say it's even more difficult than giving a baby or a pet its name.

I'll complain about Morten Veland's originality when naming his bands.. Tristania/Sirenia/Mortemia. And I hate all of those bands that have meaningless (and not creative at all) names ending with '-ia', examples: Krypteria, Tristitia, Cadaveria and so on. It's almost like a sign of some kind of bad 'dark' band (with of course a few exceptions).

His/her album got a good review on here. So I guess we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but that name is dumb as fuck.

It's cliche and cheesy, but at the same time so fucking metal. Even better example is Gestapo 666, with an album titled not different than Black Gestapo Metal.

Because you bluntly asked for an explanation about something that's widely known, I guess.

That doesn't mean the concept was at all difficult to understand, it means it was unknown to I for reasons unknown to you.

That reason being that you automatically assume anything with "-core" influence is EVIL DEATHCORE AND METALCORE WHICH IS KILLING TRVE METAL!?

I would answer just saying "blurg", rather than making a puking noise.

Sounds like you and the 14 year-olds down at your local Hot Topic share the same modus-operandi when they're listening to Iwrestledabearonce and the Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza.

They have exactly one metal release, so I wouldn't really consider them a metal band.

FWIW I don't listen to Bluuurgh... at all. The point is that they would be a ridiculous band to discuss in regular conversation due to their name, in accordance with the general purpose of this thread.
