Was listening to Kamelot's latest and a line in the song "Veritas" caught my attention - namely, "You will kneel before me and you will confess that I'm god."

And I got to thinking that there must be more songs out there, and more bands than just Kamelot, with themes of power, megalomania, self-deification, apotheosis, and other notions of exaltation. I know Kamelot has done their fair share (especially on the Faustian albums) and one other that comes to mind is from the "Aina - Days of Rising Doom" album...project...thing...where the villain is singing about embracing the darkness and becoming a tyrant. "The Beast Within," and "The Siege of Aina." Musically speaking, the album got crucified in reviews but I'm keeping to a lyrical-themes perspective here.

I know this might be a kinda specialized request so I'll try not to overspecify criteria right off. The only thing I do want to clarify is that I mean "power" as in "delusions of grandeur" (or actual grandeur - fantasy themed stuff about actually becoming a god is welcome), not "white power" or anything like that. No NSBM please.

Clean midrange vocals (gender doesn't matter) are my preference but growls are welcome too. The only thing I really can't stand is hair-metal style singing. Like I said, though, I know I'm being pretty specific and beggars can't be choosers, so I promise, no more limitations for now.

Hoping to put together a BOFH playlist for the office, when the users piss me off or when my inner evil netadmin feels like coming out to play.

Thanks!

Imagika has a few, check them out. The song G. H. B. comes to mind.

EDIT: Scratch that, I meant the song "Your Creator".

I haven't actually taken a look at the lyrics, but Blackest Ov The Black by Behemoth might fit the bill. Actually to me, Zos Kia Cultus is the epitome of self-deification in metal. Going mostly by sound that is (I seldom read lyric sheets so don't know how much megalomania is addressed).

Good stuff.

Thanks, everyone. Will keep searching along these lines - hopefully these bands have done more like what's been posted.
