Destruction - N.o One Shall Survive
Still the better of the teutonic thrash bands.

Phantasm - the abominable

This is my favorite death metal band of all time. I feel unbelievably fortunate for the knowledge of this band's existence. Their style is so unlike anything I have heard in death metal before. Literally, if I looked up bands for a similar sound to these guys (and I have), I would fail to find it, and I've listened to a lot of death metal. The way these guys put together is so unconventional, yet they way they pull it off makes it some of the most bizarre sounding and genuinely awesome sounding bands I have ever heard in my life. Their style is so different than going through the motions like a normal death metal band would. The way I would describe their music is low fi horror death metal. Not like campy horror. I make the analogy that this is like watching a good horror film. A really really dark and graphic freaky horror film. Just like a film, there's suspense, slow parts, fast parts, shifts in plot, just as there is shifts in the tempo and loudness these guys play. There's a completely off the wall yarbirds cover on this album, as if it couldn't be more out there already.

The mystery surrounding this considerably unknown band, for me makes them a complete anomaly, a true gem. It's an album I cherish, and it's an album I absolutely swear by.

Katalepsy - Cold Flesh Citadel

The riff at 2:54 is one of the best slams ever made. Gives me goosebumps with that pick slide lead-in. Still my top album of 2013 and I don't expect it to get displaced. Defeated Sanity is firmly in #2 with no contenders (yet).

Helstar - Tyrannicide
'A Distant Thunder' is such a classic speed/power/thrash metal album.

Inverloch - Shadows of the Flame

It took me about a year to get round to buying the EP, but on the plus-side, re-discovering it has been great.

Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus

Nice rockabilly-like bouncy rhythm on this. Rockin'.

I see lots of people listening to Manilla Road. How's the new album?

Razor Of Occam - Altar of Corruption
How many other contemporary blackened thrash metal bands are there in the Aussie scene now?

I gotta wait a week 'til I order Mysterium. Can't wait though.

Manilla Road - Open The Gates

Back-to-back-to-back-to-back...... (etc.) standout songs on this album.

I haven't listened to them much but I can understand the excitement. I'll give it a listen later.

Razor Of Occam - Shadow Of The Cross
Their stuff is better than the newer D666 material.
