MAAX (U.S.) "Unholy Rock & Roll" DIGI CD review by Ripple Music

Image

By ODIN

The press release that came along with this album says, “Maax can only be described as pure, old school, alcoholic heavy metal hellfire scathing the night with buzzsaw riffage of fist-banging, slutfucking black thrash n' roll to haunting passages of Luciferian menace.” So I guess if that’s the only way it can be described, my work here is done. Adios!

Just kidding. Although there is a lot of truth in that press release, I can elaborate a little. This is definitely an album with an old school feel. The production values feel a lot more like a black metal release, especially the vocals. And there is also that Motorhead-like, take no prisoners, vibe. The first track smacks you right in the mouth and the hits just keep coming. For an American band they sure have nailed the European metal style, and I certainly mean that in a good way. From reading their bio it appears that they have an issue with revolving door band members and if they could stabilize their lineup I think this band could make some serious noise in the metal world.

I guess if you are going to use the phrase “slut fucking” in the description of your music, it goes without saying that you refer to women as sluts in your lyrics, and have lots of songs about fucking and drinking. And fighting. And Satan. And lyrics like “Rot and roll, we are the new breed, Fuck you, this is our new creed”. Good thing these guys came along now instead of the days of the PMRC.

There is actually an impressive variety of music on this album. The first 6 tracks are along the lines of what you could call black n’ roll, mostly with an emphasis on just some solid rocking. “Do What Thou Wilt” has that kind of punky, Motley Crue feel, like something from their first 2 albums, before they went all hair metal. “Purge of Depravity” and “Overthrone” veer off into black metal territory. “Black Thrash Em All” has a nice, thrashy feel, hence the name. I tell ya, you don’t have to be a genius to write these things.

MAAX has 2 previous releases and based on what I heard here I will seek them out and see what they sounded like. This is definitely a band that you want to file away in your memory and keep an eye on. They are not a carbon copy of anything else that I am familiar with and take several elements of metal and combine them in their own way. Metal is a genre that needs some originality and these guys have it. Next time I go out on a Saturday night for some drinking, fighting and slut fucking, this is my soundtrack.

HYPERBOREAN (Sweden) "The Spirit of Warfare" CD review by http://www.themusicfix.co.uk

Image

By Dominic Hemy

As the proud owner of all three original Hyperborean demos, I was stunned when news filtered through that, some six years after the last of these, the band were re-emerging with debut offering The Spirit Of Warfare. Picking up where they left off, the three core figures now left proceed to charge through some particularly vitriolic yet surprisingly melodic black metal. The fascination with Cradle Of Filth has diminished somewhat since the early recordings, but is still noticeable and whilst not as sensationalist as the British headline makers, they are also significantly less compromising. Elements of prog and doom creep in as the songs shift and evolve beyond the usual manic thrashing and buzzing synonymous with the genre, but the guitars still have that evisceral chainsaw buzz as Magnus Persson sounds like he’s gargling razor blades; the waves of hatred and anger radiating from the very dark heart at the centre of The Spirit Of Warfare make it a delight to behold for lovers of more insidious music.

BANE (Serbia) "The Acausal Fire" DIGI CD review by http://www.wintertorment.com

Image

By patrick

bane is a band i have known about and followed for a few yrs.now so it's great to see they are on such a respected label like abyss rec.for those of you unfamilar with bane the band comes out of serbia's underground scene and the accusal fire is the bands second cd {the debut "chaos, darkness and emptiness was released in 2009} the accusal fire is ten tracks of melodic, yet semi brutal and aggressive blackend death metal.the guitars and drums are extremly fast and done to perfection.guitars have the thin black metal sound but also use some nicely done solo's not usually heard in this style of metal.the drums are non-stop but played with alot of precision and well-written patterns that fit perfectly with the rest of the music. the band does some keyboards but before you condemn the band to harshly the band knows how to meld the meld the keyboards with the rest of instruments for a fuller sound and adds an extra layer to bane's already full and dark sound.the vocals are a nice mix of deeper death growls and some blackend metal screams.fans of melodic, atmospheric should defintly give bane a chance i don't think you will be disapointed with the accusal fire.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) "Composition of Flesh" CD review by http://www.wintertorment.com

Image

By patrick

nothing like listening to some good ole old-school brutal swedish death metal to get the adreniline going is there?apparantly the musicians in corrosive carcass feel the same way and have created some of the Best and heaviest swedish death metal to be hard in some years.as soon as you hit the play button to listen to this monster of a release of you are instantly hit with heavy, thundering drums fast whirlind guitars that are equally as heavy as they are fast.the vocalist fits the music perfectly with his deep vicious growls.fans that enjoy early dismember, entombed and the more rawer swedish style bands will love corrosive carcass i know i can't wait to hear what these guys put out next.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by http://www.wintertorment.com

Image

By patrick

dan{owner of abyss rec.} defintly has great taste when it comes to signing top quality swedish blackend death metal. this time he has unleashed demonicus upon the undground maniacs "deadwork" is the bands second cd. and easily one of 2012's best death metal releases so far uncomprimising death metal fast, chaotic guitars, pummeling drums that go from mid- to blasting beats.the vocals are a nice mix of brutal death growls and more raw screams. demonicus will defintly impress the die-hard fanatics traditional swedish death metal.

ERUPTED (Sweden) "In the Grip of Chaos" CD review by http://www.wintertorment.com

Image

By patrick

erupted are a new band that hail from the mighty swedish underground but before you write them off as just another clone band or wanna-be etc give them a chance.the band obviously as mentioned is influenced by the early 90's gods of the swedish gods but i also hear some u.s influences from the legendary autopsy and cianide and similar style bands. you should get the metal picture by now. erupted don't waste time time they like their metal raw, dirty and straight to the point mid-paced guitars and drums, the band are not all clones as they have alot of good ideas within the music and keep it interesting.after listening to in the grip of chaos it's hard to believe this is the bands debut so i for one am really interested to hear and see where this band goes in the future but for now everyone who is into old-school swedish and u.s style death metal go to the abyss rec. web-store and buy this metal gem now!!!

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) "Reflections of a Psychotic Past" CD review by http://www.wintertorment.com

Image

By patrick

radiation originally split up in 92 but performed a reunion show in oct.2010 after a great response and the band had a blast they decided to reform.after twenty plus years radiation sickness release reflections of a psychotic past 19 songs of metal/punk crossover style. personally i'm not a huge fan of this style {it's not bad just never really got into it} but i do respect bands that do their genre justice and radiation sickness defintly know how to write and perform catchy, memorable, aggressive songs keeping their songs short and to the point ranging from a minute and a half to three minutes in range. so if your a fan of cross-over style music defintly check out radiation sickness.

FESTER (Norway) "A Celebration of Death" CD review by http://www.queensofsteel.com

Image

By Tania Gimenez

After 17 years since they drew their last album, "Silence," Fester Norwegians are back, and hopefully to stay. This forgotten gem in the early 90's the Norwegian extreme underground is back with new album, new label and new training except for Tiger Mathisen (who last played in 2011 the first album by his band SINCERA, but before This round we had not had any news of him).
Fester continue mixing elements of different styles of extreme metal as Thrash, Black, Death and even Doom, and also add to the mix a little heavy and even Jazz. Do not leave out the rhythm changes from a battery varied and natural, although at times dowry to the issues of certain industrial roundwood. The low weight gives that highlighted both in this work (as in the old days) and merges seamlessly with the guitar riffs. The truth is that Jon Bakker (Kampfar) shows keep up the deceased Jørgen Skjolden. In its first two rounds the guitar was the best they had, so I wondered if that practically glowing hallmark continue along this round, and amply demonstrates not having lost any strength and / or quality giving us a barrage of riffs and a great versatility that takes inspiration from different musical styles to adapt themselves to the compositions of the combo. Now they also have subtle synthesizers, and the truth is that they make the atmosphere even more dark and terrifying. The truth is they are a great addition to the combo, a fully steely incorporation (especially in the right measure in which they have used, and how they have). How could it be otherwise, the voices are still as features, with regular records (screams) of black metal in combination with some grunts. Undoubtedly, a good contrast the voice and tone usual with death metalhead base of the Norwegian training.
Moreover, the production does justice to an audio disc and composition of the old school. It is a production and sound dirty and rough, it seems that this aspect has not spent the time. Simply, do you need an album like this. A live album, heavier and less experimental than previous ones.
Disc spotless return of this cult band: Fester. Impeccable back very hard to live up to its past, and cuts like "Rites of Ceres" make it very clear (what a great way to open this book, by the way).

Rating: 9/10

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) Interview by The Wizard of Noz

Image

By Noswal Nevik

1. Start off by introducing yourself and what is your role in your band?

Hard one to start out with. I am Doug Palmer I do vocals for Radiation Sickness and co-founded the band with Ryan Rollins (RIP brother) in 1987.

2. I have read that you took an extented break from the Metal world, how has it been since you have returned. Is it business as usual or have things drastically changed?

It has been as fun as smack head winning a lifetime supply. Just great having the time of my life. For Radiation Sickness it is about fun that is it. If it ain't fun. I ain't doing it.

3. Tell me a little about the other members of the band? And do any of you play in other bands?

Byron Holton - Bass no other bands he has like 17 kids.

Kevin Gibson - Drums plays in all kinds of stuff.

Tom Ball - Guitar Same as Kevin.

I (Doug Palmer) do not have time to play in any other bands. I would like to do a super satanic black metal band.

4. Tell me a little about the releases you have and where they are available for purchase?

The first CD in 20 plus years "Reflections of a psychotic past" it also includes the 1990 LP "The other me, a journey into insanity". You can pick this gem up from: http://www.officialabyssrecords.com/ plus shirts, patches, hoodies, thongs, you name it.

We als released The first two demo tapes re-mastered a complete live set on CD and DVD. This is on Negative Reaction Records. You can find it at: http://negativereactionrecords.blogspot ... ss_27.html.

5. Are you a touring band or are you a studio only band? If you are a touring band list some of your best shows so far, or if you are a studio only band explain why that is?

We play a lot but like Friday and Saturday night. We drive a lot to play. I wish we could play more on the road, but all have kids and jobs. Best shows pre-break up A Day of Death 1990 the first death fest ever. Doing all we did with Repulsion and Impetigo. Playing a garage show with Macabre. After 2010 any and all shows have ruled.

6. Do you have any amusing stories from when you recorded your album or when you where on the road?

Sex stories, Drug and over dose stories? Getting kicked out of hotels because of pot smell stories. Fighting stage hands. We spent a lot of time on the road under 21. Drunk and on drugs. There is all kinds of stories. I would not trade it for anything. Well some of the nasty stuff.

7. Name some of the bands that have influenced your playing style and then name some of the bands that people think influenced you but didn't?

Deviated Instinct, Discharge, Napalm Death, Jim Jones and the Kool Ade Kids, Electro Hippies, Dr. Know (This Island Earth). Bands that people think that influenced us but did not. The Jackson Five, Napalm after Lee, Crumbsuckers, Agnostic Front, love all those bands but not a major influence.

8. What are some of your all time favorite albums?

Cryptic Slaughter - Money Talks, GBH anything they released, Slayer - Hell Awaits, Deviated Instinct anything, Electro Hippies - Play Fast or Die, Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness, The Accused - Grinning like an Undertaker, Napalm Death - Scum, Autopsy - Mental Funeral, Macabre - Gloom, Impulse -Manslaughter, He who laughs last...... There are so many.

9. Name some of the all time worst or overated Metal albums in your opinion?

Anything Metallica did after Cliff Burton died. Anything by 7 seconds.

10. Let everyone know what the band has planned for the future.

Reflections on wax, Reflections just the new songs on a split cassette and three split seven inches this year. I do not want to do a new CD just yet. We need to get "Reflections of a psychotic past" into a second pressing in three more months that is my goal.

Reach us for booking and just to bullshit at: http://www.facebook.com/RadiationDoug

Thanks for reading this mess.

DIE HARD (Sweden) "Evil Always Return / Emissaries of the Reaper" DIGI CD review by http://www.canadianassault.com

Image

By Patrick

Die Hard are a great Swedish band playing metal the way it should be played dirty, aggressive old-school death/thrash. Fast, raw guitar riffs, fast drumming pounding is amazing and well done. Gruff growls and blackened screeches spew out the lyrics. Die Hard are definitely fanatics of the old-school sound and I must say they play it with it a lot of aggression and passion. In an endless sea of bands who play old-school metal nowadays Die Hard are definitely at the top of the list of greats that will still be standing tall once the trend has passed and all the posers are either gone or crushed by the true metal warriors of the underground scene. Definitely a band for fans of old-school, raw aggressive death/thrash will enjoy this band and their releases.

SOUTHWICKED (U.S. / Europe) "Death's Crown" CD review by http://www.clandestinemetalzine.cl

Image

By Clandestine Metalzine

Death's Crown marks the return to the scene of one of its prodigal sons; I mean nothing more and nothing less than Alan West (ex-OBITUARY-ex-SIX FEET UNDER). Who returns with their decibelic impront, their unmistakable riffs.
Alan joined forces with Marco Vreven plus a couple of Belgian guys from SPHATTERED SKULL. What was the result? Classic Death Metal in the way of the Alan's past bands, but with a modern sound and sometimes own, without actually surprise too much, but I really like it. If you thought to find the ancient sound of the best times with OBITUARY, maybe you find it, but refined, updated and much more brutal.
If you consider yourself a true follower of death transformed in sound then is a must to add this album to your collection or if not it will be incomplete forever.
The name SOUTHWICKED was taken from Alfred P. Southwick, the inventor of the very first electric chair.

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) "Reflections of a Psychotic Past" CD review by http://www.clandestinemetalzine.cl

Image

By Clandestine Metalzine

RADIATIONS SICKNESS is another Old School Icons has return from the past. Their first recordings were released in the late of 80s (2 Demos) then in 1990 they recorded 2 EPs ("Bounds of Reality" & "The Other Me – A Journey into Insanity") and just a bit time later they disbanded to get lost in the vorágine of life, but they returned 20 years later with the same originality of its characteristic sound that could be described as the perfect blend of old and dear Death Metal with a lot of Crossover and a little bit of Grindcore. They called to their sound "Splattercore", undoubtedly an exact definition.
When you listen their music with great attention you will find their influences easily, from the Raw Grindcore of REPULSION, the irreverence of THE ACCÜSSED, MACABRE & SKELETAL EARTH to the consistent and elasticity of NAPALM DEATH.
Their songs are concise, short and direct to the bone, a bullet of pure Splattercore which will cross your bleedings ears. Another legend of evil returning to infect to all new metalheads.

HUMANGLED (Italy) "Odd Ethics" CD EP review by www.clandestinemetalzine.cl

Image

By Clandestine Metalzine

This 4 tracks EP is the continuation of their debut album "Fractal" (2010) which was very well criticized by the underground metal press. They continuing with their sticky Groove Detah Metal led by a Rhythmic defiant riffs, powerful and pristine reforced with a brutal vocalist "Smell Acrid" & "Deny your Creed" are two oustanding songs, because its technic.

Groove & Technical Death Metal ála la SIX FEET UNDER & OBITUARY charismatic and addictive.

This Extended Play was recorded in Italy, but was mixed & masterd in Unisound Studio (Orebro, Sw) by Dan Swano in Self.

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) "Stillbirth" CD review by www.clandestinemetalzine.cl

Image

By Clandestine Metalzine

Another young band from Sweden, but unlike most of their fellows musicians, they are strongly influenced by the American version of Death Metal, I mean influenced by bands like MALEVOLENT CREATION, CANNIBAL CORPSE etc. Their sound can be defined as a compact and fast Death Metal with a razonable technic.
9 tracks very similar to each other with very few surprises incorporated, the unpredectible here has no place, and you can guess the next note, the next riffs.
Except the aforeside, it is a LP easy to digest; you subconcious will assimilate it quickly.
Recommeded for seekers of the brutal and merciless music with attitude and vehemence, if you are one of them, then "Stillbirth" will become in one of your favorites albums of this year.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) "Composition of Flesh" CD review by http://www.clandestinemetalzine.cl

Image

By Clandestine Metalzine

Swedeath in its pure essence, but this time following in the footsteps of ignominious bands like: GROTESQUE, UNANIMATED & GOREMENT, this mean Death Metal crude and ruthless with a vocals from the grave, guturally monstrous. Their musical structures is filled with a plethora of rhythmic changes, guitar solos of grand category assambly of each of the tracks with single skill, their drummer completes the ecuation with their devasting fulfillment. Their lyrics are exclusively about dismemberment, disembowelment, blood & murder stories only for fans of this incomparable Nordic metal style.

ROCKING CORPSES (Finland) "Rock 'n' Rott" CD review by http://www.clandestinemetalzine.cl

Image

By Clandestine Metalzine

Are you looking for real and pure metal? You don't find it here, because ROCKING CORPSES is a hybrid of "metal", a strange mix of blues, Rock and some occational Groove Death Metal riffs. Their vocals mixed clear vocals with ferocius yells (Just like Chris Barnes). Their lyrics are about zombies, black humor and some horrific stories. If you can imagine an entity that is the perfect alloy between DANZIG-LIFE LOVERS & SIX FEET UNDER then I think you already have an idea of what I'm talking. Are you an orthodox metalhead, loyal to the old schol? Then vade retro and please fix your attention on others bands, but if you are a person in search of new sound continously then just go and listen this band, you don't lost anything, but maybe you can win a new favorite band, you never know.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by Dead Void Dream

Image

By Patrick

Dan (owner of Abyss Rec.) definitely has great taste when it comes to signing top quality Swedish blackened death metal. This time he has unleashed Daemonicus upon the underground maniacs. 'Deadwork' is the band's second album and easily one of 2012's best death metal releases (We're way beyond the schedule, I know - ED). Uncompromising death metal fast, chaotic guitars, pummelling drums that go from mid- to blasting beats. The vocals are a nice mix of brutal death growls and more raw screams. Daemonicus will definitely impress the die-hard fanatics traditional Swedish death metal.

ERUPTED (Sweden) "In the Grip of Chaos" CD review by Dead Void Dream

Image

By Patrick

Erupted are a new band that hail from the mighty Swedish underground but before you write them off as just another clone band or wanna-be give them a chance. The band obviously as mentioned is influenced by the early '90s Swerige-gods but I also hear some U.S. influences from the legendary Autopsy and Cianide and similar style bands. You should get the metal picture by now. Erupted don't waste time - they like their metal raw, dirty and straight to the point, with mid-paced guitars and drums. The band are not all clones as they have a lot of good ideas within the music and keep it interesting. After listening to 'In The Grip Of Chaos' it's hard to believe this is the band's debut so I for one am really interested to hear and see where this band goes in the future, but for now everyone who is into old-school Swedish and U.S.-style death metal go to the Abyss Rec. web-store and buy this metal gem now!!!

BANE (Serbia) "The Acausal Fire" DIGI CD review by Dead Void Dream

Image

By Patrick

Bane is a band I have known about and followed for a few years now, so it's great to see they are on such a respected label like Abyss. For those of you unfamiliar with Bane - the band comes out of Serbia's underground scene and 'The Acausal Fire' is their second CD (the debut 'Chaos, Darkness And Emptiness' was released in 2009). 'The Acausal Fire' is ten tracks of melodic, yet semi brutal and aggressive blackened death metal, the guitars and drums are extremely fast and done to perfection, guitars have the thin black metal sound but also use some nicely done solos not usually heard in this style of metal. The drums are non-stop but played with a lot of precision and well-written patterns that fit perfectly with the rest of the music. The band does some keyboards but before you condemn the band too harshly they know how to meld the keyboards with the rest of the instruments for a fuller sound and the keys add an extra layer to Bane's already full and dark sound. The vocals are a nice mix of deeper death growls and some blackened metal screams. Fans of melodic, atmospheric should definitely give Bane a chance - I don't think you will be disappointed by this album.

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP review by Aristocrazia Webzine

Image

By Mourning

The Gardnerz I had landed aristocracy of when the first album "The System Of Nature" I was sent by Wilhelm still in a self-produced, later became part of the roster of the Abyss Records, the same label that supports their second release, the ' ep "It All Fades."
Mini akbum containing five new and a cover is the evolution that was expected of a band doom / death from more than discreet personal touch, we find it is the corrosivity of the prowess of the metal of death Scandinavian mold, the mother country Sweden is also evident if some reminiscence Finnish here and there you can feel.
instead has increased the rate of progressive elements both in terms of the composition of riffing - slightly more complicated but able to properly juggle between sensations purely metal and other devoted to the acoustic side, with the effect of increasing the transparency factor in the songs - both as regards their purely atmospheric now even more varied and intriguing.
tracks move on these coordinates giving more or less unleash elemental nature, combining it always this tendency to soften and become sweetish but never dull, the opener "Do not Look Back" is a prime example of how the band has worked particularly on the weaving of plots capable of wriggle easily changing shape and substance in the race, while the cover of Darkthrone Immortal "Transilvanian Hunger" is a lesson in class and personality that would schiaffata face the myriad cover bands who are unable to go beyond the banal imitation of the original.
the song is disrupted, the frost becomes compelling melancholy dominant, the splinters of the guitar riffato turned into an exhibition folk gentle, she was given new life and performance of the singer Paulina Strihavka (which will pay for the items in the second title track) is sublime, the interpretation of the lyrics written by Fenriz is so suave and gentle in some places to touch the lulling, yet you will notice that listening to good music is that, still the "Transilvanian Hunger" we love.
Gardnerz The The have made ??a big step forward, the bases that were planted with the debut were already perfect square and to support the artistic qualities of good quality inherent in the Swedish combo, now this place so widely dedicated to give space to sound the "middle" is so that on the whole the whole body music it receives gain, going forward listening in fact you will appreciate chapters as "Melatonin" and "Erasing Bad Specimen" in which the classic aura and a layer of desolation additional join the company offered so far.
Going forward, I can only look forward to the release of the second work of this group, and hope that the changes in this "It All Fades" - including in the production you will notice significant progress with regard to yield and care of both sounds - find further development and maturation, so I can only strongly recommend the purchase of this little gem.

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) Interview by Aristocrazia Webzine

Image

By Mourning

Scopriamolo.

Bentornato su Aristocrazia Webzine Wilhelm, come stai?

Wilhelm: Ehi!

Cos'hanno fatto i The Gardnerz?

I'm pleased to share again a couple of thoughts with Wilhelm of The Gardnerz. The artist, in fact, has already been our guest at the time of release of the debut "The System Of Nature" and we had deepened our knowledge of the band. Where they are now? Let's find out.

Wilhelm, welcome back on Aristocrazia Webzine, how are you?

Wilhelm: Hey! I'm doing great, I just finished my Portuguese course, so finally I have some free time. Been a bit too much with a fulltime job, fulltime studies and trying to do some band stuff as well.

Two years have passed away from our first conversation, what has changed in this time? What did The Gardnerz do?

Fuck, has it been that long? Shit man, time fly's. The biggest change is that we have a new drummer, Vedran Bencic. Besides that, just keeping on with our deadly doom. We have been busy creating new music and just trying to promote the band and our releases as much as possible. When Vedran was living in Sweden we rehearsing like crazy, but now when he is back in Croatia that is kind of tricky, ahahah.

Thanking Francisco, your bass player, I was able to listen the EP "It All Fades" before its official release and what surprised me was particularly noting more details in a sound more less enclosed in its extreme influences, do you want to talk about it?

For you I'll talk about anything! I guess what you are talking about has its roots in that I listen to and enjoy playing all kinds of music. And I really enjoy when music is dynamic and ever changing. So I think it is fun to play around with all kinds of influences and ways of writing music. With this band I have a sort of anything goes approached.

Why did you choose a sound so clean and a big room dedicated to acoustic section? It's an appetizer that anticipates further development leading up to the second release?

I really love clean parts in metal music, as a listener so I think it is only natural that I incorporate those things in my music. And I think having the clean and mellow stuff helps the heavy stuff become even heavier, sort of giving the listener a breather and the just a smack in the face when the heavy shit kicks back in. I would have to say no, the new songs I have, has clean parts for sure but not more than "It All Fades", we are not changing our style or something like that, just more of everything. I want to keep all the parts that I have had in the songs. Hopefully we will be cranking out this doom 'n' death when we are old and grey. Of course I always try to evolve the music and play around with it, but I want to keep the main idea: deadly doom! Or as my friend Martin put it "brutal doom".

Chapter "Transilvanian Hunger": why the choice of covering this song? How did the version that you created born, and especially from where it comes out the angelic voice of Paulina Strihavka?

I have to give some of the blame to our bassist Francisco, he asked me if it wouldn't be cool to make an acoustic version of a metal song, sort of like a bonus track. And I thought why not, and after some thinking I remembered that had figured out the main part of "Transilvanian Hunger" way back when I was working as a guitar teacher. And creating my version of it by accident while I was learning the Kansas song "Dust In The Wind", (requested by some students of mine). While I was learning the song, I fucked up with the chord changes and all of a sudden I was playing "Transilvanian Hunger"! My original idea was to just do it as a little interlude, like a minute or so, but when I had done it like that I liked it so much that I decided to do the entire song. Pauline is a friend of mine that I have been doing some acoustic covers with, standard rock, blues and country songs. She had already agreed to do the stuff on the track "It All Fades" so she was happy to do the Darkthrone cover as well. It was a bit funny since she is not a metal fan at all, and when I was playing the original version of "Transilvanian Hunger" she was like "hmm, okey". But she really nailed the vocals and I think her voice really made the song.

The album, from self-produced, became an official release under Abyss Records, and the EP has followed the same path. We will have also the second album released by the label of Daniel Ferguson? How is working with him?

I can't really say to be honest, I enjoy working with him and he has done us very good so far. But we don't have any contractual obligations with him, so who knows. If someone else comes dangling a super fat contract, we might take it. We have been talking about releasing a single with him this year, so that is what is in the pipeline right now. Waiting for it to be mixed and mastered and then it will explode in your face like a nice canon blast of epic doomy goodness.

What's the status of The Gardnerz now? Have you unlocked the live situation? Have you had the opportunity to play the songs of "It All Fades" in that area?

We are mainly writing new songs and trying our darndest to promote our albums. Well we have a lineup now that we could do live shows with, now that our drummer at least is fairly close. We actually had a tour in the works for September of last year but it unfortunately feel through. We have been talking about getting our act together and really push for some shows this year. So hopefully something will turn up, since that part of the bands life has been very tricky for us. Stuff falling through and unreasoned offers.

In the last five years, the doom scene has had a considerable emphasis, the quality of the releases has held steady at very high levels and there are more people with a passion for this often overlooked style. What is, in your opinion, the reason of this "window" that has been creating? I think for example to the Nuclear Blast that start by signing bands like Witchcraft and Orchid: this is only a trend cycle?

Fuck man I don't know, haha! Maybe it is that the garage rock scene has really exploded and some of those fans have been turned on to some more heavy shit. To be honest I have no knowledge about that scene at all, since I'm more of a death metal dude anyway. Just always been more into the more slower death bands. Never really been into the doom scene that much. I have always preferred the growling vocals of death and black metal. It is only in the last few years I have been listening to more real doom bands, like Trouble and Warning (fuck, they were good thou). I have always been a huge Black Sabbath fan, so I have always looked at it like I have Black Sabbath, so I don't need any other stuff like it, since they are the best anyway. Regarding the bigger labels signing more doom bands, I would say that is more them wanting to cash in on a trend. I'm not saying it is a bad thing since that is what a corporation is supposed to do, and since it is great for the bands, everyone wins.

As a listener and music fan what are the albums that you mostly liked in this year? And there are a couple of names wherewhit you would like to collaborate, perhaps giving rise to a split album or imagining them as "guests" in your album?

To be honest I haven't bought that many new albums, I did get the new Dying Fetus album, Woods Of Ypres album and the latest Bob Dylan album (which is fucking amazing). Some albums I bought that aren't new but that I really enjoyed and listened to a lot this year are: Funeral "From These Wounds"; Chemical Disaster "Third Wound", thanks to Luiz for sending me this one, "muito obrigado"; Warning "Watching From A Distance", I have to rank this album as one of my all time favorites, and I have been wanting to buy it since our vocalist Niclas played it for me, and earlier this year I finally did it. And while writing this I'm rocking out to Fleshless "Hate Is Born", which Earache for some reason included in my Woods Of Ypres order, fucking killer, such a amazing band Fleshless, an insane mix of brutality and melody! Regarding collaboration I can't really say, I haven't given it much thought.

What's boiling in The Gardnerz's pot? Are you involved in songwriting process?

Right now the single I mentioned before is the main thing, it is two soon to be The Gardnerz classics! Believe you fucking me! Well since I'm the one writing all the music I would have to say yes, haha! So far we have ten-eleven new songs and two new creative cover songs!

There are also other projects around the current members of the line-up?

Yes! Niclas has his amazing band Vandöd, which has some killer stuff in the works. Francisco is involved in with almost all known bands in existence, No Francisco Martín, no music scene period! He is playing with Sacramento, Inner Sanctvm and a few more that I can't remember. Vedran is not involved with anything that I know of, and I play bass in the black metal band Pandemonium, and we have some killer shit coming your way soon!

We thank you again for your time. Let's close our conversation, waiting perhaps for a future opportunity to update us, I leave you one last time the the word for a greeting addressed to our readers.

Hailz fuckers! Hope you enjoy my ramblings and if you haven't done so check out The Gardnerz in whatever media that fits your listening needs.

FAUST (Italy) "From Glory to Infinity" DIGI CD review by Embriotomia Zine

Image

By Homer_Nava

This album is one of the most recent because it was released in October ’09 and there's no doubt it is one of the best albums I’ve heard lately. Faust is an Italian band that executes death metal with high levels of evolution where every detail is carefully treated. Faust was formed in 1992 by Aleister (guitar/voice), who is the leader and founder of the band and also played in Ancient (Nor). I’m sure that this is the best release of the band so far.

Fast death metal is mixed very well regarding technique, melody and brutality, and as a result of this we have tracks where the riffs are intense and macabre with some acoustic parts and both guitars doing a great job, creating an original and versatile sound that doesn't deserve any comparison because there are no similar styles and sounds. The Faust style demonstrates that the influences are left aside to create a masterpiece with unpredictable sounds. They are good musicians and I don’t doubt that besides death metal, they were inspired by known virtuous guitar players as well.

From Glory To Infinity offers us nine songs beginning with Purple Children, giving us the best overture of this cd. Here is the notable line Faust is into because it has an intense beginning and fast passages with an obscure ambiance. There’s an instrumental song here as well that is in fact a kind of duel among the two guitar players. They also used this in the best way, finishing the cd with an instrumental outro.

The cd is professional. The album was mixed at Trident Studios where bands such as Testament, Sadus, and Exodus have worked, so you’ll get the idea about the quality of the recording. The lyrics are topics about perversions and anti-Christianity with very suggestive cover art as well as excellent artwork within the booklet. More points of quality? Ok, here plays an ex-Dimmu Borgir guitar player and Steve DiGiorgio on the bass, so let’s imagine the quality of this band. I don’t usually rate bands, but if I would it would be 9.5/10.

Faust is modern-style, old death metal that shows that there are no limits to this style.

Rating: 90%

BANE (Serbia) "The Acausal Fire" DIGI CD review by http://www.vs-webzine.com

Image

By ZeSnake

On reflection, BANE should be the first group from the former Yugoslavia I listen to. Well of course there is the Slovenian LAIBACH and NEUROTECH, but that is extreme metal is BANE me discover the extreme ex-Yugoslav scene, if indeed there is one. All that to say that these countries do not seem to successfully penetrate the international as it crosses few training ex-Yugoslavia. BANE, we from Novi Sad in Serbia, has existed since 2006 and acausal The Fire is the second album after Chaos, Darkness & Emptiness (2010), two separate outputs for three still splits. To complete the identity card, say BANE has offered his Swedish passport as Black / Death slightly melodic Scandinavian sounds like never before. Put DISSECTION, DARK FUNERAL, THE LEGION NAGLFAR and in a package with a spirit a little more Death Metal-times (at BELPHEGOR) and BANE will magically appear. Nothing really exceptional in appearance but in truth, the Black / Death melodic BANE is quite good and quite well crafted, eminently well agreed. acausal The Fire is in the strict line of Chaos, Darkness & Emptiness , without significant change. Sharp riffs, melodic leads and tremolos, large blasts (rare) breaks acoustic (discrete) solos, vocals and voice over death WB, BANE this program and the group does not really look very far in absolute terms. After the great symphonic intro "Bringing Forth the Endless Dark Aeon", the band alternates Serbian blastants access fees and melodic, often within songs. After starting well fit-in with "The End of Humanity," a strong emphasis melodic then moved on tracks like "In Silence Endless" (with riffs terrible) or "Light the Black Flame", but comes without BANE struggling to find its balance with songs like the excellent "The Truth Unleashed", the more rhythmic "World of Desolation" or "Existence in Denial." If the riffs rather inspired in all, are really the strength of acausal The Fire , the group also knows very daring including the epic "As Chaos Rises" bristling with vocals (which recroisera on "The Truth Unleashed ") that recall the A Bliss To Suffer from THE LEGION for better or for worse (it will choose your side). After the outro "Paradoxical Entering the Sphere", BANE pays tribute to his influences by taking the inevitable "Night's Blood" DISSECTION, very faithful to the original (except for the battery which unfortunately did not breath required). Speaking of battery, its pretty awful this item and undoubtedly the major flaw of The Fire acausal , even if we've heard much worse. Some songs are a little easier sometimes, but overall BANE has arguments to deliver a Black / Death quite correct, with riffs that send good. And I would even say that acausal The Fire improves with tapping and proves to be a pleasant surprise in the end. Of Black / Death without much fuss Swedish but really good overall, with effective composting what is already sufficient. For once, Abyss Records releases something better than average, and given that this group was friendly Serbian me the first approach, so I recommend heartily second album BANE who is looking for Black / Death melodic, but well done (despite the cover very ugly). Too bad we may never see how the group can change, group line-up already highly unstable is on hiatus since its leader Branislav Panic emigrated to Canada. It hopes to put together a full line-up but hard to tell if BANE will keep his soul. Therefore take advantage of The Fire acausal which is a pretty solid album failing to revolutionize the genre.

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) "Stillbirth" CD review by http://www.vs-webzine.com

Image

By Olivier 'Zoltar' Badin

Life is sometimes as simple as a fetus. Or as an ostentatious name and a resume that says more than words ... So now, if you are called a priori zieutant this name oh subtle and discovering in it the presence of the last drummer date BLOOD RED THRONE we did not a group of zouk, you were right. No need to beat around the bush 666 times: with AEON, FETUS STENCH is one of those groups who have Swedish as Scandinavian passport . Except that if the first try - with some talent admittedly - to steal her four-hour DEICIDE Glen Benton soon as his back is turned, its potos of 'stink fetus' (ah, that sense of modern poetry!), they prefer to catch the CANNIBAL CORPSE George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher in a dark corner for him poking his mojo. therefore if you are a fan of 'torture' and other 'Kill' but the last MALEVOLENT CREATION (including in this way if particular speeder typically thrash riffs otherwise) and if you like this style in the tradition of the first half of the 90s has at least the intelligence to drape an execution and a production, they, all that is more current, so there is a good chance that the glances of 'Stillbirth' You take effect. still a bad piece slower and unhealthy as "Severe Suffering" is an exception. But "Stillbirth is a product (yes) that does not disappoint. Provided by cons not looking for something complicated - although operating in two guitars, FETUS STENCH has simplified life and rarely bother solos example. Or really deep level concept rather than the words of these nine pieces declining their usual batch of gore shots without even trying to pretend to be original. At the same time, with a name and a pouch like, the opposite would have been surprising ... But for a group displaying only eighteen months of existence, this is the kind of album that makes the job as they say sufficiently effective to pro and gently nod the deathster warned that lies within each of us (yes, even you at the back!).
