The IGN boards specifically.

I know of a few users there with over 130k. One with 200k too.

The only lie there is that my mom isn't in Turkey, I wish, she could get me some souvenirs... Kind of sad to see 31 years old men being "trolls" like that, I guess he should try to become famous by following the code of ethics of depressive/suicidal black metal, if you guys know what I mean.

@Bastard: this is fucking awesome!

Pretty much. It's extremely vast, atmospheric damn heady stuff. The have fairly long songs that focus heavily on creating a cold, void-like savage beauty rife with ear shredding (but rather buried) vocals. Imagine being hurtled full tilt into the majestic, uncaring vacuum of space looking back into time, the birth and death of stars, supernovas devouring whole systems....

Stuff like this...

Really liked that, sounds a lot like the atmospheric 'nature' and 'winter' themed stuff i have been listening to lately....nice description by the way

There's something about darkspace that really lends itself to way overbearing metaphors. They're the sigur ros of BM. Rad band though.

That Darkspace song didn't really impress me, nor did it conjure up images of space. I guess it aint my thing.

I've only found dark ambient acts to bring forth that sort of atmosphere, personally.

Thy Catafalque conjure the space imagery in my head on certain songs. Though in a more "We are adventuring through space in strange machinery with a thousand blinking lights glimmering in the darkness" sort of way, rather than "I am observing endless expanses of gas clouds and long dead stars".

Hmm, I'm unfamiliar with that act, I'll check them out.

Now that I think about it Oxiplegatz has a feeling of adventurous space exploration for me (or rather Sidereal Journey does), but it's far more romanticized and fantasy based than what is being described. I'm also not sure how much of my perception of "spaciness" from them is legitimate. I suspect that I perceive a very real sense of adventurousness in their music, and then retrofit that to their spacey aesthetic. Cool stuff either way.

I've finally started listening to Enslaved (long overdue!) and wow.. 'Havenless' is such a fucking epic song. The chanting along with that awesome riff. Godly. Also listening to Gontyna Kry and an English band called Ildra. Pretty great stuff all.

I think 793 is their most epic one. Incredible song.

Aye, that was also really damn good. So far I've listened to the albums: Frost, Eld and Below the Lights. I'm sort of following autothrall's reviews as a guide. Liking what I've heard overall so far. Yggdrasil is another cool song with a great riff.

EDIT: Just listened to this Russian band: Arkona, on YouTube. Magnificent. Man, I'm really being bombarded with awesome music tonight,

What Darkspace really needs is some bitchin' guitar solos.

That's a lot of big talk for someone who makes music that sounds like a malfunctioning washing machine filled with rocks.

Portal sound infinitely better live than recorded. The live take of Glumurphonel that I first found them through is so much better than the studio version that it's not even funny.

The thing with Portal is that I perfectly understand what they're trying to achieve. It's just that I also think that they suck quite hard at it. That's too bad though, because I really dig their aesthetic choices, and the vocalist has a genuinely creepy stage presence

Sometimes, while moderating the band queue, I stumble upon bands that make me want to kill myself, just for how bad they are. Funnily enough, this time the band that achieved it plays DSBM.

I'd ask for the name, but most DSBM bands sound the same.

To be honest, "Dark 3.14" is more of an interlude than anything. Not really representative of the rest of their stuff at all.

Anneke Van Giersbergen's new song is REALLY good. Infinitely better than that LP she did with DJ Hidden recently, which kind of sucked (but being the fanboy I am I bought anyway)

I looooove her voice, but for me her own music is kinda ruined by her work with Devin Townsend. Her work on Addicted! and Epicloud are among my favorite female vocals, and no matter how good her own music is it's never going to beat those two albums.

See to me those two albums are far inferior to the gathering/her solo stuff. Although admittedly Everything is changing isn't so good as the others but still very enjoyable.

I haven't really listened to a lot of The Gathering to be honest. I listened to Home and Souvenirs. Both are beautiful and moody, but I also found them to be a little bit uneventful. How is the rest of their discography?

They're all mood music really, but my top three are Mandylion, how to measure a planet? and the west pole. The first is the most metal album they made with Anneke, very beautiful, with touches of shoegaze and dead can dance influence, and some pretty great doomy riffs. HTMAP? is more rock based, where they got a lot of influence from trip-hop and radiohead. It's a really varied album, and travel is probably my favourite song by them. I don't really know what to compare the west pole to, but if you find souvenirs and home uneventful I would say that it's more eventful than those two. The others from Mandylion onwards are all really beautiful too, especially Disclosure on that front, it builds some really nice soundscapes on heroes for ghosts and I can see four miles. I think Anneke's vocals have gotten better overall as the albums went on from her start in the gathering to her solo stuff now, but my favourite performance of hers is Herbal Movement from if_then_else, though I really do love this new song, and her cover of Papillon by the editors.

Silje is a really great singer too, on the latest two albums, especially on Disclosure where she was more involved with the writing of the album, and did lead vocals on all the songs, whereas on the west pole Marcela Bovio from stream of passion sung on pale traces and someone called Anne Van Hoogen sung on capital of nowhere (which is absolutely beautiful, really nice vocals and guitar work reminiscent of cocteau twins)

What is this acoustic-synth guitar that I'm hearing about?
It looks like it's producing sounds organically.

"Woaah, it sounds like...it sounds like a synthesizer...but it's not"

Haha.
