So... I just saw a step by step photo album of someone making a milkshake out of bananas and living tarantula.

This the kind of shit that makes you suddenly sympathize with misanthropes like Ildjarn.

Poor little guy.

:puke:

Did I mention it's 0:30 and I was planning on going to bed?

Ok I found it online. That's just a lame attempt to get attention. But yeah, disturbing. Sigh.

What a pertinent subject of discussion, guys!

I'm currently writing a review instead of studying 'cause fuck the police! It's my longest review so far!

I forgot how good While Heaven Wept's Fear of Infinity was. Just randomly found it again on my computer after thinking I lost it and it's really great...one of the best examples of a unified album - something I talk about a lot - that I've heard in the last 2 or 3 years. They really just make every second count, and it's beautiful. I should do a review; it's been a long time coming.

Nope. Too mainstream. Think more obscure.

Is it that Innsmouth demo? or Realmbuilder? :P

Nah, I review more obscure stuff than this, albums with no reviews on MA usually. My last.fm will tell you by the way!

I really liked iamntbatman's review of Innsmouth, made me check the demo, it's quite great and highly recommended but yeah, it's Realmbuilder ;)

And my personal friends say that I know a obscure amount of bands..... I'm way out of my depth here.

Do you get to "accept" your own review into the archives, Tony? Just curious.

Btw, Empyreal, WHW is such a majestic band. It's been a while since I heard 'Vast Oceans Lachrymose'. Once I'm done with the Rotting Christ playlist, I'll revisit it. Kudos for the mention!

I also remember being quite hooked on Vast Oceans Lachrymose not too long ago, and then I simply kinda forgot about them. I should probably fix that, because that album rules. It rules hard.

It's weird with me because VOL never grabbed me. I like it, and the songs are good, but I just hate how it starts off with that 15 minute song and then the songs just get shorter and shorter as it goes on - that kind of album construction just doesn't flow right for me. FoI is just better for me; less heavy and less metal, but more genuine feeling.

Actually, I have no qualms with the arrangement of the tracklist in VOL. Hell, I actually kinda like how you go from the sweeping epic that is the opening song into more and more mellow territory as you make your way through the album. If I have to point out any flaws in it, then I'll mention that stupid, pointless intrumental stuck at the end. I get why it's supposed to be there, but I don't think that it fulfills its purpose in any way whatsoever, and it simply ends up being anticlimactic.

Of course. For those who want to read my new review, click my signature.

Also VOL >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fear of Infinity. It's just more epic. For those who want to read my new review, click my signature.

Less heavy? Less metal? More genuine?

Hmmm. Well I honestly have no points for comparison between the two since I haven't listened to FOI at all. With regards to the 15min epic in the beginning of VOL, it does seem a bit misplaced but look at the entire album as one continuous flowing musical piece. There are enough breaks even within that song to give it that dynamism (for lack of a better word). Song lengths are a tad trivial in my opinion, if you can enjoy the whole album in its entirety...at one go.

I'll check out FoI for sure sometime later. I just have so much new music to grapple with like some stoner/doom stuff that Tony recommended among other things.

I think this is why I've never seriously considered being a mod. There's a few albums where I want to submit a review saying only "It sucks, fuck you."

Groove Metal era Pantera, and the last two Metallica albums are only the first to come to mind. Anything Rhapsody have done too.

Haha, iAm. New mods are anointed in a manner that is privy only to the secret circle.

Getting back to WHW, I was going to "love" a song on last.fm and then I realized I had already done that two years back. I couldn't help but smile to myself.

I fully support your Rhapsody hate, iAm. Dreadful band. The last two Metallica albums are also pretty much worthless (except for All Nightmare Long, as that song rules). Now, as for groove era Pantera..... I do spin VDOP and RTS once in a blue moon, and both Cowboys from Hell (though this one isn't actual groove per se, IMO) and The Great Southern Trendkill I find to be pretty cool, so I'm not in the same camp as you regarding that one :-P

Groove Metal era Pantera is useless garbage for white supremest trailer trash. Absolutely nothing redeemable about them nowadays.

You lost me at "white supremacist". There's no pathetic neo-nazism in their music. There never was.

They don't openly sing about it, no, but there are a few videos on youtube of Phil talking about white power and what not. Oops typo. I gotta turn the auto-correct thing on Firefox off.

(go look those up, I don't wanna start a debate that will end up getting this thread locked)

Pantera is awesome. I used to think they sucked too, before I listened to their stuff beyond "Walk."

If by that you mean Power Metal is awesome, and everything else sucks to an almost offensive extent.

Guess I'll have to check those videos out, iAm. Still, the music doesn't reflect anything even resembling white supremacism, so I couldn't care less. And yes, Walk sucks more than an high powered vacuum, but it gets really tiresome to always hear people calling the band out on it. If you're gonna shit on them, then at least do it thoroughly.

I've never actually heard Power Metal...but I really love their groove stuff and think it kicks ass. After I got over the whole 'metal kids aren't supposed to like groove' stuff when I was about 15-16 I loved it - not to say that everyone will, but yeah, I think it's fucking great.

Thumbs up on the Rhapsody hate though. There's a band I could do without. :p

You owe yourself that, Emp. It's basically speedy USPM with a hybrid of Udo and Halford behind the mic (Anselmo is almost unrecognizable there), and it kicks so much ass it should be illegal.

Walk is just the quintessential shitsong. It's almost like it was made just for the purpose of people having a reason to take a dump on Pantera. Sure a lot of their other songs sucks too, but Walk sucks in a memorable way.

Huh? I never saw any of those white-supremacist elements. 90s Pantera were more of the tough-guy band to me rather than what iAm stated. Anyway I couldn't care less about this too.

Phil had some good vocals going on (right from the Power Metal days) till his whole drug habit kicked in. It's been downhill ever since. I agree that some of their groove songs are brilliant. Arguably the most popular anthemic songs of the 90s and Cowboys is still one hell of a record.

Pantera sucks, they're perhaps not white supremacists, but they're rednecks for sure, they love their dixie flag!
