I'll probably snag the new Iron Lung when they play here in a few weeks.

Holy shit I didn't even realize they were touring, guess I'll be seeing them Thursday now. Last time they came through my area they only made it through about 7 minutes before the show got shut down, at least this one's at a legit venue

Anyone here into Guillotine Terror? Pretty good 90's crust/death/grind from Japan.

I have one of their 7ins!

Edit: And it's actually the one you posted a song from. Got it long ago from relapse when they were selling a ton of tapes and vinyl for a buck apiece.

Fuck, that's a killer score. Have one of their CDs on the way from Japan, but I haven't had much luck finding anything else.

Ok... so... I don't know fucking shit about grindcore. The closest I've gotten to it is Bolt Thrower. So I'm here for some ejumakashun. What would y'all consider three to five of the greatest grindcore albums for absolute starter-kit noob reference points? Not only in terms of aesthetic appeal but also historical importance.

Not necessarily looking to "get into" grindcore, more just trying to get a clear picture of what the hell it really is, and how it sets itself apart from metal. Thanks!

EDIT: Oop, just noticed the starter list at the beginning of the thread. Well, feel free to rec further anyhow.

I'd say these three are just about as influential and essential as an album can be:

Napalm Death - FETO
Repulsion - Horrified
Terrorizer - World Downfall

Those 3 are a great place to start and all have some degree of "metal influence" so they may be a little easier to get into. Being that you mentioned Bolt Thrower I'd say you should give Death Toll 80k a listen. They're a newer band but you can hear the BT influence in a bunch of their riffs and they have a relatively good production which may appeal more to someone who isn't as versed in the realms of low-fi blasting chaos that much of the genre wallows in haha.

http://deathtoll80k.bandcamp.com/album/harsh-realities

I'd also say, if you like more "technical" stuff you should give Gridlink and Discordance Axis a listen. It's the same main dude in both bands. I like Gridlink better but that's probably heresy.

http://gridlink.bandcamp.com/album/amber-gray
http://discordanceaxis.bandcamp.com/alb ... -dreamless

And then there is the glory that is mincecore! You've probably heard of Agathocles who originated the term but I think Archagathus do it better these days... that's also probably heresy. Much more punk influence.

http://tolivealie.bandcamp.com/album/canadian-horse-lp

That's way more than you said you wanted I guess but OH WELL. Grindcore rules and even though it's all based in the same ethos there's a fair amount of deviation in sound within the genre. If you dig anything in particular that you come across post it up and we'll send you to more similar jams.

@Under_Starmere: On top of what has already been recommended, also look into both of Assuck's albums.

I might have to see about finding a cd as well, never knew there was one.

When I bought it I just did it based on the sentence description and the name. I figured for a dollar it's worth it. it was one of the few good ones out of all the other stuff that wasn't great.

They have quite a few full-length releases, but it seems pretty hard to find the stuff outside of Japan.

We don't talk about much goregrind in here... and usually any goregrind talk seems to go the way of LDoH, Haemmorhage, etc. but for anyone that's even remotely a fan you need to check the new Violent Gorge jams from the 5" split they're doing with Sete Star Sept. Noisy!

Violent Gorge rules.

Holy fuck that is ridiculous... They live up to their name.

While it's not grindcore yall should check out Sordo if you haven't.

Edit: Was browsing around and I found this release:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF9mW_wPeQM

Crushing is a good word. Mad awesome breakdowns that remind me of hardcore breakdowns and sick grind blasts.

If you guys are into blogs, downloading stuff on the dl and being a genuine piece of shit like me Equivoke did a real cool piece on Canadian grind bands, specifically B.C. Check it out, some I knew, some I didn't- worth a check.

I'm looking for some more grind that incorporates electronic noise/power electronics in to the mix. PV or fastcore reccs are welcome but I'm NOT looking for Sore Throat/Anal Cunt styled noise-core (I like the style but it's not what I'm after) nor am I looking for any cyber grind bands but rather something more conventional with noise worked in as interludes or mixed into the music. Something along the lines or Full of Hell or Knelt Rote. Anything I'm missing out on?

The Endless Blockade/Column of Heaven? Maybe the Gas Chamber demo/LP?

Column of Heaven is great, they slipped my mind earlier but they're right in line with what I'm after. The Endless Blockade sounds promising too thanks man

Try Robocop & Bookburner (though the latter only have about 5 minutes of material).

Anyway, so both the new Children of God and Hatred Surge are pretty weak. Children of God are kind of going off in the direction I was afraid they would - less grind and more modern sort of "dark hardcore" or whatnot. And the Hatred Surge album just sounds like a so-so Mammoth Grinder album. I've been enjoying the new Nails alot more.

Kind of an odd request here, but I just wrote some goregrind, well my interpretation of goregrind, and I know it's not "by the book", but I was curious if there are any grind or goregrind bands that write in a similar style?

I´m a big fan of Goregrind, not matter if its groovy or blasty or whatever.
But to me thats Gorenoise with some funny sounds in between.

I apprechiate it, though. :)

Listen to "Mind Ripper" by Insect Warfare or "Bleak" by DeathToll80k.
Those are two of the best Grind songs ever made IMO and very good examples how it differs from Metal.

Dead Infection rules, glad you like 'em! As far as similar stuff goes, I think if you like DI you'd probably also like Dahmer and Sewn Shut. Saying they sound similar is a bit of a stretch, but whenever I listen to one of these bands, I usually listen to the other two as well.

Hey, np, glad I could help. :)

Dahmer is pretty cool as well, forgot about them before.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-eqgcO1Sp0

oops, I just saw Dragunov mentioned them already...

Super Fun happy Slide is worth a shot, too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAAJkjbRimg

The more I youtube about Dead Infection the more I question myself how I could ignore this band despite knowing their name and reputation.
Holy shit are they good.
I think Brodequin stole the riff from "From The Anatomical Deeps", cant pinpoint it exactly, but I know I heard it before. They covered it, most likely.
EDIT...yeah, they did.

DI : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVoPwBwEPp8

I think the rest of those tracks are for other stuff (ie. not for the SSS split, like the first track) but it doesn't sy for what...

There isn't nearly enough room on one side of a 5" for anything past Rhinocerebral Torment.

I noticed that, still rules though. But Rhinocerebral Torment is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Have you heard the stuff on Archagathus' bandcamp that's for their split with Dead Issue? If not, DO IT

Cosigned on both the Archagathus songs being BANGIN' and Rhinocerebral Torment being my fav of the lot. I really like the wacky noise shit interspersed throughout the jams but not actually being part of the songs...
