Soilwork - The Living Infinite II

Now that I've listened to this album a few times, I can safely say that I think this is a real comeback after the lackluster 'The Panic Broadcast'. While it does bother me that their lineup has changed so much since their glory days, I have to admit that it seems to have revitalized them. I read in an interview with Björn Strid that the new guitarist wanted to bring back some of the 'melancholy' that was on the first four albums, and they seem to have done that. Personally, I don't think 'melancholy' is the right word for the feeling a lot of their older stuff had; 'desperation' is closer, I think. Either way, this is a good album.

Ixion - Leaving

I've been on a black metal spree lately, I need some variation and have kept going back to the Ixion album for another listen. Beautiful.

Ixion are great. Ever tried Darkspace? If you're on a black metal spree, and like music which sounds like space, you can't go wrong with that.

NP: Sepultura - Troops of Doom

This is probably the song for me in recent times which had the longest incubation period as "the one with that riff in it, y'know" to me actually finding out which song it was. A good 6-8 months of it periodically coming into my head, at least.

Alice in Chains - Stone

What a badass song. Hypnotic sludgy main riff begins where "Check My Brain" left off and what a cool solo utilizing delay and chorus.

Hobbs' Angel Of Death - Lucifer's Domain

Pretty fuckin' awesome Aussie thrash, with some very, darkly cool riffs and songs to be found. You like thrash old or new? Give these old timers a run, you might be surprised...

The "When Fire Rains Down..." EP is worth listening to - I'd been overlooking it for some time.

Nice!

np: Amorphis - Forgotten Sunrise

My favorite song of Tales From A Thousand Lakes! It has some really heart tearing melodies.. and I love the oldschool sound of the whole album.

Man, I forgot how awesome James sounded on this track. I just love that vicious screaming attack he goes for here.

Finntroll - Mordminnen

Listening to the new Finntroll, and I'm liking this a hell of a lot more than their previous effort. Nifelvind tried to be far to serious for it's own good, and while it did have some great songs the album quickly wore down after about 10 spins.
