I finally got in touch with a vocalist who I think will sound great on the Coma Void material. I just sent him some rough mixes and lyrics earlier today so hopefully before too long I'll be doing the final mix/master then can finally get this album out!

(Y) nice to hear dude, seems like you've been searching for quite a bit!

Getting tempo mapping done for the 3rd Oshiego album, and we've begun rehearsing the material also. I always feel that a lot of rehearsals will make the recording process go smoothly. Imagine every rehearsal is a live recording, if you will. This way you won't get jittery during actual recording and having jammed it 1000 times before will make you nail the recording effortlessly. Megadeth rehearsed and performed most of Peace Sells way before committing it to tape, that's how such difficult songs were completed so quickly(even amidst all the drinking and drugging turmoil) The Sound Of Perseverence lineup rehearsed together EVERY DAY for four months before recording.

So the new band I jammed with went exceptionally well. Its going to be drums, guitar, vocals and eventually keyboards. I can't really describe it besides a mix of The Feederz, jangly guitar chords and Boris heavy parts. It sounded good and I have been getting really god at drums lately.

But haven't you been working on that album for much longer iamntbatman? Hopefully it'll all workout for you.

somefella, totally agree with you on that, that's how I did my recording with quite a few of my actual bands. I usually could one take everything be it on drums or guitar.

wizard you aint 'god' on drums. lol. but nice to hear, not too sure if it would be something I'd dig but hope it goes 'good' for you.

It was a typo lol. It was fun to do I think it will be something interesting that isn't focused on being fast or neccessarily heavy. Thanks I will see if I can record so you can hear a snippet of what you think. Definitely interesting.

Hmm, well, yeah. The first track is ancient; I think I wrote it for one of the songwriting contests like two or three years ago. I did another track (sans vocals) maybe a year after that, then later did the album intro track. Then the whole thing just sorta got left behind for a really long time until a couple months ago, when I dug that old stuff up, dicked around with it until it was where I wanted it, then did a whole lot more writing and recording to finish out the album. So, hopefully the "coming soon" in my signature is actually for real now, haha.

I know it was a typo, I was just fucking with you. I'm def interested cause it's not like I don't listen to stuff like that... I'm just unfamilar with the Feederz and i usually associate jangly guitars with indie rock and some scramz stuff.

iamntbatman, well I hope it all comes to fruitation this year. I want to hear it just to see what you have been piecing together for over years.

The Feederz are really dope. The singer ran off with Jello Biafra's wife! The guitar is tuned weird so it can do minor chords a lot. its just a bit trebely but we definitely have some heavy parts. Excited to be doing this more.

Cut out the body for my les paul project. I'm going to make it with a 25.5" scale and a high output pickup, and because I like long tedious work, it's going to have a carved top. Mahogany body, lightly figured maple top. I think I'll dye it deep red and black the edges, like a black cherry burst or red burst. We'll see. Not sure what kind of bridge I'm going to use on it yet, other than fixed. I don't have any precision power tools here, so drilling the posts for a tune o matic could be problematic. I have such a love/hate relationship with building guitars. I think I enjoy thinking about building them more than I enjoy actually building them.

Hmm, I've been playing through my crummy Zoom 505ii for the last six or so years and was content with it, but today I decided to dig out my old Boss Metalizer MZ-2 that has been rotting in one drawer or another for almost a decade, and damn me if it isn't ten times heavier than the Zoom. :o

I want a Line 6. I love cranking the treble/gain on those and pretending to chop down an entire forest with riffs.

Honestly don't get one. those are the most horrible things. Everyone who is a more serious muscian that actually knows about tone laughs at people who use them.

Esp if you ever plan to use it live. that's just an atrocious pile of shit.

Those Spider III heads aren't too bad for high gain distortion at low volumes, but yeah, pretty much what SLK said. I had to play through one of those at some stupid gig my old band did a while back. Terrible shit at stage volume, I wanted to personally apologize to everybody there after the show

you should've also apologized to your own ears for having to deal with that garbage. yea not too bad for high gain at low vol just to jam on but even recorded it sounds like shit.

Oh trust me, I did, haha. Promoter wanted each band to use gear that he provided to make sure the set times were on point, which was a bad move. Every band sounded like absolute shit.

I hope he never ran another show. Or maybe he was actively trying to ruin every band cause no one would ever want to see them again if they were unfamilar with you.

if I was given that to use I would've just used a mic and yelled 'dun dun dun' for guitar parts instead.

What would you reccomend SLK? I'm somewhat on the market for some new equipment. I'm mainly looking for something to record with.

I have a Fender Mustang amp now - it's handy because it has a USB port to go right into the computer for recording. I can also get a great fuzzy tone with it.

I detune and use the thickest Ernie Ball strings if that helps.

Downtune, not detune. Seriously, people have to stop mixing these up. Just get a good stompbox and run it through the Mustang if that's convenient for you. the Uber Metal or a modded Metal Zone will do well enough.

Well I might be the best guy to ask. I pretty much only know and like older gear. I don't do any direct line in for anything and I play at concert volume while recording.

So with that in mind.... get an Ampeg SS140 combo amp. I'm assuming that you mainly play at home. it'll be great to mic out and if you want to ever play live you can easily convert it from a combo to a regular Ampeg SS140 head. I mean basically by unplugging a wire simple. They run around 300-500 depending on when you see them. usually more towards the higher end cause they are getting snapped up.

also Somefella's suggestion would work as well I'm not really huge on pedals either. I like the HM2 for the classic Swedish death metal tone you can't get otherwise and I like the original green Big Muff on bass for some good grit.

Haha that's funny you mention the Swedish Death Metal pedal, it's the only pedal I've ever seriously considered spending money on. Ever since I read that Dan Ekeroth book.

Yes I play at home, so this is all good advice. I don't know much about cabs/heads and all this lingo. I've had a Best Buy guitar and this same Fender amp for around 3 years.

I think it's time to get a new guitar if the brand that you tell me is Best Buy. I can guarantee that ain't great.

Just search on ebay Ampeg SS140 and it'll pop up.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ampeg-SS140C-2X ... _556wt_671

only one up I see right now.

it's a good pedal the HM2 I have one.

I feel you lol. Alas, I'm in college and poor. I'll keep an eye out for the Ampeg though, this guy makes it seem pretty great.

I've heard one of the splits you posted on here. It was Myrkridia, I thought that was some really good bestial-esque shit man. It's obvious you live and breathe music though, and I respect that. I'd listen to more if you have more bandcamp links.

A buddy of mine recently scored an SS150c 2x12, and I can't wait for him to bring it down so I can play through it. If one ever pops up and I happen to have some extra spending money, I will buy it in a heartbeat.

As for the HM-2, I really enjoy that pedal as well. It sounds really good through my Shockwave and the 4x12 I have w/ Swamp Thangs in it. I actually use the HM-2 more for bass stuff nowadays, shit sounds nasty! A lot of people pass that pedal off and say it's only good for Swedeath stuff, and that that style is tired and "hip", but man through a powerful amp and good speakers those things sound mean.

Yea you can't just beat a fucking good tone regardless if someone thinks it tired or not. Who cares? it sounds great. I ain't tried it on bass, just guitar.

Micrulah:

speedritualrecords.storenvy.com

everything on that link aside from Pornography is my work. Each release you click on and it brings you to a link that you can listen to it.

Glad you liked that Myrkridia, it's been awhile since I had wrote those songs and I'm quite pleased that it's out and I can hear the whole thing in it's entirety. And appreciate that you picked up that music is if not all my life a large percentage of it. haha.

Cool, wasn't sure if those were just purchase links or streaming as well. It shows man, it's respectable. I can't wait until I have my shit recorded and available for people to listen.

I'm listening to Ishimura too, sounds like Thou but heavier. I dig it. I like how experimental and weird all this stuff sounds man.

I have an SS140, and I like it. I got it for a steal, and I think it's a perfect black metal amp. Also with you just playing at home, a solid state amp would probably be a lot easier to deal with than a tube amp.

Wrote a bit of deathgrind today. Deathgrind is coming to be my music genre for random ideas that I'll mess with later. Didn't really have the energy to do much else, as I worked overnight and then went right back to work at noon. Needless to say, I'll sleep well tonight.

Going to see Carcass in NYC in a few days, then Richard Dawkins in DC right after. I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks. I'm going to work on the SG some, and I think I can make a good guitar out of it. I'm going to switch the pickup out, get the action nice and low, shave the nut, and slim down the neck. Oh, and add a real strap button instead of a big screw, hahaha.

Just saw that thread in the seeking musicians forum about a split for death/doom or osdm. Can't believe I missed it! I've been in a musical slump the past couple weeks, a project like that is exactly what I need to kick start the musical parts of my brain. I may try to write something like that, old school death/doom stuff that's as raw as buttsex in the desert.

Gah, lucky bastard.

Picking up some new shows, one on the 1st, the 6th and POSSIBLY the 17th, the 17th being the benefit show for Jill Funerus which has Avulsion and Hellcannon playing. Would love to play the 17th but seems unlikely.

SLK, why don't you add credits on your bandcamp pages? If you write and play everything you gotta brag about it. :)

Thanks, that's a comparison I really didn't expect to hear at least with Ishimura. I like creating things that sound interesting to me, it's just good luck if anyone else enjoys it as well.

What the hell is wrong with a big screw? that's what i have for my Iron Bird. Nothing says metal like some huge jutting screw that can stab the fuck out of your leg or side than that. Also did I get that Mountain of Beard to you? I think I did but I keep feeling that I didn't.

I don't know, I guess I'm lazy. Or I figured someone could click on the pictures of the layout and see who did what even if it's my name on all of it aside from probably vocals on different things.

Of course man. I'm noticing a balance between black/grind/death and experimental stuff in your music. You've really got the OSDM sound down pat in the stuff with that kind of playing in it. It's obvious you've listened to a lot of Autopsy and put your own spin on it :P

Absolutely, I raised myself pretty much on Autopsy and Incantation. It's a classic style that really never gets old to me. I do a lot of writing from the gut so that's why it's a swirl around those styles cause for me it's all about the feel than the technical aspects that could swamp down a song. That and understanding the very basics of why certain bands sound the way they do and incorporate those same elements when I'm doing a band to get it to sound similar. Like taking their colors and creating something of your own with them.

I do plan on doing some other stuff in the future that is more tech. maybe even some retarded slam for the sake of doing slam. I just need more time, and less distractions which is mainly gta5 right now and preparing for 2 artshows in the next couple of months so I can sell all my stupid paintings and cds to buy more shit I don't need. hell probably will use it to build my home studio I've been planning to for the last couple of years.

The guitarist in my band just quit cause he feels he just doesn't have time to dedicate to any sort of full time band. And I bought his guitar rig, which the cabs were from a guitarist of an even earlier band that I had going on for like 5 years before he had the same issue with time and moving to FL. Well now I have 2 straight cabs, one 412, one 215 both have some high end speakers in them, they were I think old carvin boxes that the first guitarist used, then gutted and rewired. I could sell each for 300 easy. I also got a Randall RH100 with the cabs. I picked it all up for 5.
