Any reason you stick with hoodies instead of denim? Seems like it wouldn't last nearly as long

I think patched hoodies are a big fashion faux pas myself. The vest was fine though despite my disapproval for many bands on it :)

Damn I’ve never though about adding patches to a hoodie like that. Giving me some sick ideas.
I also have this camo jacket I need to get to work on.
EDIT: 100th post btw, congrats me.

After my main vest was completed I thought of other things I could do with the patches that I accumulated over the years. So I thought of different "themes" for some hoodies I had that had a lot of room on them. Such as (mostly) black metal patches on my Dissection hoodie with colors that matched the artwork, or all red patches on my black dahlia hoodie, and then the (again, mostly) folk/pagan metal themed korpiklaani hoodie. So it wasn't something I necessarily set out to do, but just something I thought of along the way while collecting my patches.

It may not necessarily be considered fashionable by most, but I thought it was a cool idea. I just love patches because I can rep multiple bands that I like on one piece of clothing. And whether you have a patch jacket/vest/hoodie or whatever, it can be one hell of conversation-starter at shows!

Hell yeah dude, like I said above, it's just something I randomly thought of. I think it would potentially be cool to do patches on something different like a pair of jeans or something too.

I might keep it simple and just do one back patch on a black hoodie.

Nice jacket there is almost no space left on there for a patch.

Thanks! :) Yeah, it's pretty much reached it's "final form", I just hope I can get the backpatch signed when I see Vomitor at Nuclear War Now in November!

I've started two new ones (a leather one and a blue denim one with sleeves) but they are still in very early stages and not worth posting yet.

I bought a really thick work jacket/hoodie for my patches since it gets way too cold in the winter for denim and it's worked pretty well. It's got around 30 patches on it now so that helps add another layer to block wind

Since when is metal "fashionable"?

^ Well kind of since always, in my opinion.

Especially in this day and age...

If it’s a fashion statement, let alone a style then it’s fashionable by definition. It doesn’t mean that it’s something that’s part of the fashion world per se, although some metal styles have been taken over by hipsters.
It’s not all bad though, it’s cool that girls wear more leather and denim now.

Also I like how Metallica's the only patch that's just the real thing (excluding the Hamburglar one).

All the others are actually rap/hip-hop artists written in the style of metal band logos. I didn't even notice that the first time I saw it haha.

Yeah haha it took me a minute too. I think it’s a bit lame, it’s a pretty cool jacket sure but why not just put some real metal and rap patches. It just makes it look dumb.

I almost wanted to say that the Doom patch was genuine, but then I noticed the initials, lol, how subtile :p

You're arguing that metal can be MADE a fashion statement, I'm saying metal inherently is not fashionable. It's anti-fashion, anti-trend, abrasive and against the grain. The definition of "fashion" courtesy of dictionary.com...."conventional usage in dress, manners, etc., especially of polite society, or conformity to it." Conventional, polite society, and conformity are all opposite to why most of us enjoy metal in the first place.

Bullshit. Do you think H&M, arguably one of the largest (and fashionable) clothing retail chains in the world, would sell Slayer, Metallica, Motörhead and Ramones t-shirts if it wasn't somehow fashionable? You see big stars like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and more immitate the classic metal/punk look with patched up leather jackets, and large fashion retailers have been making jackets and denim vests with the same general aesthetic as battlejackets for a few years now.
Agreed, metal is inherently a form of counter-culture, and true, many metalheads revolt at the thought of it being commercialised, but even so hugely popular bands like Metallica or even Sabaton have long lost or never had that anti-anything attitude. Listening to Metallica is as socially acceptable as listening to Radiohead by now.

And the thing is about the punk and metal styles is that they are themselves imitations of real non-fashions. When punk hit the UK and mass copied the US style making it the punk that we know today, it then became a conventional style so to speak because of the fact that every kid was wearing it.
And even when NYC bands were pioneering this stuff and imitating junkies it was not always out of necessity but as a fashion statement.
In metal you can see that the general more popular styles (ie jeans, leather jacket, high-tops. I know this is what everyone wore in that time, but you know what I mean) are also like that, imitations of the real unconventional and non-comformate styles like those of bikers, thugs and junkies for instance. Doesn’t mean it can’t be rad or counter-cultural.

Also that’s the wrong definition you should be looking for, that’s more like using to say “to be out of fashion”. Here’s the more relevant one: “1) the prevailing style (as in dress) during a particular time. Or 2) a prevailing custom, usage, or style.” courtesy of merriam-webster.

We're still kind of talking two different lines here. I will not debate what was said as we can go in circles for days. I will just reiterate my point that something like a "battle jacket" cannot be a fashion "faux pas" as it is about doing whatever the fuck you want and creating your own custom art piece. I learned to sew to do mine. These jackets are much more artistic than fashion in many ways. In any case, I need to finish up my own jacket and get some pics up along with the rest of these awesome ones

We aren’t really.. yes you have a point, but you’re taking the word “fashion” too seriously like you just don’t really like that word lol. It’s just like saying “I think that’s a bit lame”.
Anyway same here, I recently ordered patches of:
Nocturnus - Thresholds
Cryptic Slaughter - Convicted
Discharge logo
Bulldozer logo
Helloween logo

Should be here soon too

Some great jackets lately, fair play to all.

Have to say I don't like the hoodies with patches. Just don't do anything for me, although I like a back patch on a cheap plain hoodie.

Also, that jacket with the rappers names done in metal logos is very, very well done.

Yes! It's a pin though! Got it from this cool seller alongside Candlemass and the Slayer one. He gave me an extra MF - Melissa pin as well. http://pinfindergeneral.bigcartel.com/p ... th-triumph

TON indeed, N_S. Such a great logo.

That is badass. I plan on putting together one of my own this summer, I might just have to snag some like that.

I've been planning to make one for a while now, but I'm taking my time to plan out how I want it to look and stuff. Does anybody know where I could get an Eternal Nightmare back patch?

Getting a little dusty, and doesn't quite fit me anymore.

Quite proud of the Hellhammer back patch, I'm thinking of removing the patches and putting them onto a new vest that fits me better.

I am starting my first ever battle jacket. It will be nothing but Aussie bands. So far have Armoured Angel, Imminent Psychosis, Asylum, Lord, Envenomed, Espionage, Barbariön, The Hard Ons

Any suggestions for an awesome Aussie back patch?

For me, it would have to be Destroyer 666!

Out of interest, how many of you put badges/patches of your national/regional flags on your jackets? Quite dangerous in some parts of the world. Also anyone got any NSBM themed jackets? Had any trouble from it?

Guys (RegularK) it's not hard to rotate a picture.

I used to have the Québec flag on mine but I thought it was cheesy so it got removed. People with NSBM patches should get laughed at like the scum they are.

I have a Canadian flag on my vest. When I went over to England for a big festival a couple years back, it was actually how I met some guys I would become friends with. They still call me Canada to this day haha. The only hassle I've ever gotten was at a show in Edmonton, where a guy was bitching at me for not having a bunch of Canadian thrash patches on it! He said something like "How can you fly that flag without having X bands?".

Only vests are real. But yeah putting patches on a backpatch is ok, I've been considering it. My bag has many pins on it though.

Front is pretty much done.
