The new Satan album "Atom by Atom" has been out for about a month now and hasn't been reviewed yet. Anyone care to take a stab at it?

Not on the archives, but you can check out my short review below if you'd like. Personally, I didn't like the album as much as everyone else did. There's nothing wrong with it, but it felt like a rehash of Life Sentence, but with worse riffs and songs. Still a solid record though. Here's the review:

Spoiler: show
Quote:
“Atom By Atom” marks the second album for the legendary NWOBHM Satan since their return a few years ago. The good news for fans of the band is that this album largely follows the path forged by their previous record. Many of the same types of melodies and rhythms that the band has used in the past appear on this record, almost to the point where “Atom By Atom” is simply an extension of the previous album.

Perhaps the biggest similarity this album has to the previous one in the production. The guitars still have that incredibly satisfying crunch that sounds distinctly like Satan (one listen to the opening riff of “Ruination” will make this incredibly clear), and they deliver a plethora of riffs and solos. Beyond the guitars, Brian Ross’ epic vocals are the other primary driver of the album. His voice is unmistakable, and he even still manages to throw in a few high-pitched screams (like the one that opens the record). The drumming is also on-point, with the tons of interesting fills, and an overall style that is a bit more laid back, giving all of the instruments room to breathe (the main riff of "My Own God" being a great example of this relaxed style).

The strange part of “Atom By Atom” is that even though the execution is spot-on, it just doesn’t have the same impact that “Life Sentence” did. Perhaps it’s because that album was far more unexpected, and especially given how authentic it managed to sound in 2013, it was a breath of fresh air. This album is more of the same, which is fine, but even the songs don’t stick quite as well. In fact, pretty much every song has a catchy chorus, and some solid riffs, but there’s nothing worth revisiting as often as songs like “Siege Mentality” or “Testimony” from the band’s last album. This album is a little more consistent quality-wise, but its highs are nowhere near as high. That doesn’t stop songs like “The Devil’s Infantry” and “Atom By Atom” from rocking incredibly hard though. It just means that this is a solid addition to their catalogue rather than a career-defining album.

Thanks. Yeah, it struck me as an extension/continuation of Life Sentence. Not as melodic/catchy, maybe a bit darker/technical. I'm still digesting it, and probably should compare them back-to-back sometime.

I'd love to hear other people's opinions regarding Blud Baf and their debut album, Blud Dungeon Crawler 4.1. They are a very odd groove metal meets death metal outfit, and I am sure that someone will find their music intriguing.

I would not go for such a high rating as you did, but it is definitely cool. Also, quite an odd album title.

PM me the download code/link.

I'll do it for the review challenge.

I'm only doing a handful of reviews since I have no pool to draw from, but this is melodeath so I might as well do it.

Hi, I would really appreciate it if some one could review the debut album "Pestilence Prevails" by my band Hollow Lives. I'm not really sure what genre to call it, although someone added us to this website as depressive black metal. We also have elements of depressive rock, doom metal, death metal and dark ambient. Our album is on bandcamp for free download and soon we will have a limited number physical copies. We would be happy to send someone a physical copy for no cost if they were prepared to review the album. Thanks in advanced, here's our bandcamp page: https://hollowlives.bandcamp.com/album/ ... e-prevails

Hey all, my band just put out our first release today and I'd love to hear some feedback from some seasoned headbangers. Link to the bandcamp should be in my signature, looking forward to hearing what rules and/or sucks about it! I like to write reviews too, so send me your band's stuff and we can do a tradeoff.

Haven't posted in a while, but within this past year, I started a black metal band, and almost a month ago we put out our first album. Check it out here: https://nanelmoth.bandcamp.com/

Metal Archives page for the release: http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Nan_Elmoth/Hammer_of_the_Moon/550102

It would be rad if any of you could give it a listen and review it. Thanks!

Edit: if you don't have an ability to stream and want to commit to reviewing the release, PM me and I'll send you the tracks.

Hi everyone,

I'm the keyboard player in a power metal band called Grimgotts just released our first EP (Here be Dragonlords), if anyone wants to give it a review that would mean a lot! It's available for streaming & (free) download on our bandcamp (below), and the Metal Archives link is here: http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Gr ... rds/556726

Would anyone be interested in reviewing this for MA? http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/De ... ind/523413
It's been out for 4 months on a label that has done absolutely nothing with it, so it's unsurprising that there are no reviews on here yet. Our PR team will send you a downloadable press pack - just PM me and I'll arrange it. Thanks in advance.

Hi,the new compilation "Dark Split III" has been out for about a few months now and hasn't been reviewed yet.
I would really appreciate it if some one could review this compilation of 4-way split featuring "Disakrin (fr)/ Morgon (fr) / Foghorn (fr) / Pestiferis (fr)" by DARKARTS PRODS. There are different elements into this split, black metal, pagan black metal and death metal, here's some informations:
http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Di ... III/444048

We would be happy to send someone a physical copy (CD's) for free and no cost if they care to take a stab at it and to review the album.
So just send me an email to darkartsprods (at) gamil (dot) com .

Thanks in advanced.

Can we get someone who's not Napalm Satan reviewing mid era/shit era Discharge? I've been curious about that shit for ages and would like to read a few reviews on it that don't involve me wanting to kill myself because I hate the writing so much.

Coming from someone whose reviews are the equivalent of scribblings jotted down on restaurant napkins, tossed in the trash and then recovered later, you aren't in the greatest of positions to condemn N_S with such hostility.

Basically, he has his shtick just like you have yours. He describes the music well, although I could do without all of his opinions being suffocatingly hyperbolic. Once you take that into account he is a good reviewer.

I was kicking around doing some Discharge a while back. I might still, but if you think Dia has dry reviews then steer clear of mine!

I'm the opposite of dry but that's because my entire reviewing career can be summed up as a series of massive overcorrections :p

Also I just have zero interest in hearing any Discharge past the debut.
