After the downfall the last band I was in I decided to start up a solo project as I am tired of writing amazing material only to have it be swallowed up in bands / projects that end up dieing due to power hungry / problematic individuals.

On top of that I put out an AD on craigslist to find people that wanted to start a black metal band, or for me to join. I ended up finding 3 people whom were in previous bands in my area & they all turned out to be cool dudes, and I am currently in the process of learning their material & helping write harmonies on certain songs as the drummer & guitarist had written in their parts but not a "true" second guitar part. We had been missing out on a bassist but I talked to a long time friend that said he is interested so we will see how that goes, but I am really looking forward to it.

So far I really enjoy what the guys have written, and I am looking forward to getting all their material worked up so we can record an EP, start gigging, and then I can help start writting new material from the ground up, instead of spicing up already awesome songs.

For my solo project I have gotten a few things to help with recording like a graphic EQ and an effects processor for cabinet simulators, and vocal effects. Sadly I may have to go with a drum machine *ugh* (no offense just not my preference) as I do not have a space where I can practice drums or record them.

Also I have been seeking out black / death / doom metal cassettes online from bands I have never heard of because I want to start up a bit of an obscure tape collection.

So things are going alright considering how terrible the year has been up until just very recently.

Haven't been very active on here for a while, but wanted to come and post about this!

My main band, Funeral Age, went about two years without playing any shows. We wanted to focus on writing music and get a lineup that we felt confident in to go far with, then I injured my shoulder and couldn't drum for about six months. We are finally active again. Played a headlining show in Bremerton, WA headlining the Washington Death Fest as our return show, then did another headlining set in Olympia, WA. Next show will be opening for Marduk/Rotting Christ in Seattle on September 16th.

Here are some drum cam videos I took from our show in Olympia of two currently unrecorded songs!

Victim Soul

Hallowed Be Thy Shame

In other news, my Progressive Black Metal project, Dalla Nebbia, is kinda on a break as me and my guitarist work on the follow up Mesmur album. We recorded two tracks that will be released on a split (more news to come) and then another 5 song full length which will likely be out in 2017.

Experimenting with "spacey" melodic metal. All instrumental. Trying to keep things slow and with good progression.

I want to start a Gothic Metal band as a singer/Songwriter. But I also want to take up keyboards or improve as a singer or Drummer. The thing is I feel that its rare to find members in Philadelphia, PA who would listen to Tiamat or My Dying Bride. I have alot of ideas floating around in my mind for songwriting, song ideas etc. But I feel I should take it slow and try to get better at singing or learn keyboards. Another thing is, with Gothic Metal declining (In my opinion), will metalheads today listen tothis kind of music with Prog, thrash, death and metalcore still going around. I mean I have confidence that I can play this kind of music but I also gotta worry about other things like college. Your thoughts people...

I've started experimenting with some In Flames style riffs (Clayman-era specifically) and here's one of them that I've put on songsterr.com (I use songsterr to be able to listen to songs that I've created so I don't have to record them every time) http://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/gates-of ... -s411505t0

It doesn't sound like In Flames until the verse riff drops, then it's pure Clayman worship throughout.

Finished mixing all the sound files for a band cover of the Warlord classic Lost And Lonely Days.

Both hands hurt bad after playing - more so my picking hand - limiting how long I can play.

Hei I am in the process of recording my next cd, have been working on material writing and editing. Have decided to work on each track individually, as normally I record all music in a form of rotation. However thought it would be better, to record many takes of each song. :)

Finally got my long awaited death/doom full length mixed and mastered and ready to go. Released a lyric video on YouTube last week, and the whole thing comes out in October. Took a few years, so at least I've got the next album written already.

My guitar player and I did a very drunk and sloppy cover of Slayer's Angel of Death the other day over Skype. I did the vocals; I definitely need to practice more, I could hardly talk the next day!

I just have to learn the bass part now, and we can get started on doing a proper job of it!

Just waiting for the Lock Howl full-length to be mastered and then will be released. Also got a compilation of Hellripper stuff being released on vinyl in December. At the moment I am currently finishing off the writing for the Hellripper full-length and trying to get some shows booked for 2017 around UK and Europe.

Spent a fair amount of time today practicing scales/technique ect. to a metronome. Still got a long ways to go but feeling my rhythm is getting much better. Here's a bluesy improvisation thing I was jamming:

^nice one! Playing with Hour of Penance is very cool. A one off club/bar show or a tour of some sort?

I picked up a Korg DDD5 drum machine on the cheap last night:

Spoiler: show

Super fun and easy to play. Some of the sounds are jank but the kick is nice and punchy and the closed hat and clap are 80s synth pop perfection. Not sure I'll use it on many tracks, but I'm so used to programming stuff into my DAW it's nice to change up the workflow.

Just made my first cover video ever, went with Gorguts of course. I didn't make it perfect like I usually like to do and just made it really quick after a couple listens and a couple practice runs. Tell me what you think!

Lately I've been working on an electronic thing along the lines of Ulver, I want to incorporate some harsh noise and ambient/drone. Going for one long song ep like Silence Teaches You How To Sing, got two rough minutes so far. Still don't know how to do automation clips for fade ins and whatnot, but I'm slowly teaching myself to use fl studio.

Also been jamming some riffs and putting them into guitarpro, and I have to say it makes it much easier to keep track of things when trying to make music by myself and I can actually hear an okay sounding preview with drums and harmonies. I'm kinda looking for a way to just plug the midi into some amp sims or something and Superior Drummer so I don't even have to record and I can get hd quality ;) I don't even care what people think, it's something I wanna try.

I've been playing guitar about 13 years now, played actively in bands about 6 years. I also give guitar lessons. Heres my active bands:
Unohdettu Tulevaisuus (grindcore/crust punk/powerviolence
http://dis231211.bandcamp.com/

Pedophile SS (improvised/jamming noisecore/grindcore)
http://dis231211.bandcamp.com/

Past bands:
Catholic Bastards (hardcore/crust punk with some metal influence)
http://catholicbastards.bandcamp.com/

Silenced Minority (hardcore/crust punk)
https://myspace.com/silencedminority

Besides metal and punk genres I like to play different kind of music for example jazz, blues, rockabilly, funk, pop.

Super easy dude. Select an empty pattern, hit record and then adjust whatever you want automated. After you hit stop you can always edit the automation clip to clean up any errors or make it perfectly smooth or whatever.

It's a two day indoor festival for death metal in Stockholm. I was there watching The Crown and Blood Red Throne this year, so it's pretty insane that we're gonna be there time. Nagging endlessly apparently pays off :D

Anyways, I came to happily post about my latest YouTube cover :) Nailed some rather black metal-ish shit on it that worked better than expected:

Just for fun a few weeks ago I drew up this logo for a little project that was, all in all, not really supposed to be serious or anything, just a bit of fun. Wrote some songs over the past week, recorded them all last night, and mixed and recorded vocals for this one today. Originally what was going to be just a 3 song demo ended up turning into what will hopefully be a full-length released on CD next year in March.

Not gonna go into too much detail, as I still have to write and record about 5 to 6 more songs, but I have until December to see if I can get this done, and judging by the time in which I finished the 3 for this now Promo tape, I'm quite hopeful for it. Thinking I'm gonna use this mix as the final, seeing as I wanted this project to be quite filthy, and the label really seemed to enjoy it.

I have a little problem with my fender guitar knob and guitar cabinet which I use only in band practices(it's transistor). It seems like volume has started to lower when playing, sometimes it gives good sounds and sometimes don't. I used electronic spray, it helped a little, what else should I try?

Buy a soldering iron and some resin core soldering wire or whatever it's called.

What you wanna do is open up your guitar, and look at your volume pot. check the soldering connections there. Using the soldering iron you can remove the current solder holding the wires on it. Cut the wires, strip them a bit, then solder them back on.

If it doesn't work, you may need a new volume pot, which can easily be replaced by soldering the wires connected to your old one onto the new one.

I'm relatively new at soldering, so if anybody would like to correct me that'd be great, but that's just my guess

I could be mistaken, by "Fender knob" he means a Fender head, as in an amplifier. Heads are called knobs in Finnish for some reason.

I've spent the last six months on a music sabbatical due to life reasons, and now I'm getting the bug back and feel like I'm ready to start doing it again. The only problem is that I can't actually make any of my ideas come to fruition due to only being a drummer, and none of my regular collaborators are really available right now to do stuff with beyond the bands we're already in together.

To say I'm annoyed is quite an understatement.

As it turns out, I posted those same laments to Facebook the night I made my post in here, and a friend of mine from Maine offered to write for my new project with me. We have three songs now, one of which is almost 11 minutes long. It's gonna be gothic melodeath, much like Insomnium or In Mourning, although Draconian, My Dying Bride, and Thousand Lakes-era Amorphis are big influences on the project too.

I'm thinking my next paycheck I will try and pickup a used Washburn PXL20, the only problem it had when I tested it at the shop was the neck pickup was almost silent when you changed to it, and volume would slowly come to it. Now I know that I've pretty much only used my bridge pickup on my OE-20, but I do want to try the neck pickup more (only problem with my oe-20 is I need to fix the gain knob that's loose right now) so I am going to want to see if they can help me solve that pickup problem at the shop, if it's a cheap repair, the price is still a few hundred cheaper than buying it new, and aside from that one problem, the thing feel damn good. If you guys think it's not a smart idea, I'm open to trying a few other guitars out, primarily looking at guitars with that arch top neck angle, playing the oe-20 has made me prefer those styles and I don't play as well as a straight top guitar. Schecters seem to have the most guitars like that, but I tihnk there were some ibanez solid bodies like that.

Trying to finally get my solo stuff off the ground after years of being completely apathetic. Here's a bunch of old riffs that I kinda threw together, I have enough material for an ep and I really want to try my hand at making a one song album IE Chaining the Katechon/Pleiades' Dust. I just am not good at transitions and writing bridges and things so a lot of the time the riff just changes, which is good in some places, but when every riff just changes without much of a connecting piece it doesn't sound right, yknow? I think these flow okay like this, but after where the riff cuts off it's going to go into a more traditional black metal minor tremolo pick chords thing. There are only so many ways to transition from blast beat to blast beat!

Have finally got everything ready for my bands next release, have been working on three tracks. For about a year, there have been a few delays. However managed to overcome these glitches, and found someone to do female spoken word parts of title track. Helgasðöttir Kuolema Joulua, which have worked out really well!
And will be doing a micro gig for a group of friends. :)

Finally recorded guitars for the Fearless North Koreans from Hell demo, sounds like an even more drunk version of Holocausto or Exterminator.

Picked up the Washburn PXL10 I had on lay-away and she's beautiful, the only little issue that I think I could fix myself, otherwise get the shop to fix, is that the neck pickup almost needs some time to warm up before it's volume is really there. When I put her on lay-away I mentioned the issue and they were able to fix it on the spot, but it's happening again now on POD-Farm, I'll test it tomorrow on my Bandit-112 and see if it's happening there to. Otherwise I love this one, the frets are spread with slightly different spacing than I'm use to with my Oscar Schmidt OE-20 and other guitars that seem to have the acoustic spread, so I need to get use to that. Now I just need to slap some EB Not Even Slinkys and see if that's what I want with her like with my OE-20 or if I want to try another gauge.

I'm finishing my school semester next week and I have a lot of stuff written for Perdu En Soi that I hope to finish and record over break, I think I'm getting better at composition, the only thing is I either write songs that have the larger later Dark Funeral sort of feel to them and songs that have sort of like the mid Empyrium feel to them, both with the country bluesy twang that I throw in all my music, so I'm thinking when I have a solid number of songs written, to have an album be divided into two sections, or lay them out as two eps or two short albums. Regardless, I need to finish writing and put the time into programming the drums for them first.

Been pretty busy. I released an album of "martial industrial" which I enjoyed making. I have a folk ep recorded, but not yet properly mixed. I am at this moment working on another punk ep, and some black metal with a friend of mine on drums. There are various other little projects I am working on, but those are very much on the back burner.

Finished a cover of one of my favourite Fates Warning-songs last night, the epic ending of Ivory Gate of Dreams. No Exit-era Fates Warnin is great for practicing tight, thrashy riffs along with soaring leads and solos. Put a lot of work into this, so I would appreciate some feedback!

Recorded some guitars and bass today for a song I've had written for a while now minus lyrics, but one thing's for certain, when I play the bass melody it sounds pretty fat compared to the Tuxguitar version, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to do that melody with a vst instead because it would also mean there's only bass for two chorus's in the song, and I should really write bass around the whole song to give it the strong large sound I want it to have.

I also started writing a doom song earlier this week with the bluesy tang that all my slow songs have and I see where this can be a large song. I look at my doom stuff and I am really divided whether to include it in Perdu en Soi or not because it's written with the instruments and tuning as Perdu en Soi, only difference is the tone, but Eternal Winter from my submission to the black metal song writing challenge was in the same vein so I think I'll put it in Perdu en Soi, just maybe have separate releases for the doom stuff that doesn't match an album theme.

Learning little bits and pieces on guitar and bass and trying my hand at guitar maintenance. I've been learning Fast as a Shark on guitar the past few nights. The solo is fun as hell to play, I can't nail the last bit of it 100% yet (the descending run), but I'm getting quicker. The awkward sideways nature of the lick is throwing me off.

I have buggered up one of my strats trying to put in new single coil pickups. It's okay, it was a valuable learning experience in what not to do. I'm hoping to get a better look at it this weekend.

I had the first practice with the new band (a drummer and I) a couple nights ago. Things went really well and I think it won't be long before we record. It is great to be playing black metal again, and much more competently than before.
