Not bad. Real drums would be huge benefit, as would some more variety/inspiration in the riffs (and song structure as well, a lot of repetition without building towards anything bigger). I like the subtle synth throughout, and the vocals are very fitting. When you settle into a part, the atmosphere is solid for what you are going for (definitely could stroll a misty grey graveyard to it).

Listening through to the second demo, your synth stuff is very effective (the verse in 'the empty shell' particularly), but a lot of this seems meandering (more so compared to the first demo). The tracks carried by the electronic stuff in particular I thought were weak. Also, the drums are mixed a bit too high for my taste. I think I prefer the first demo to the second.

Good job, I hope to hear more from this.

All in all it sounds pretty decent. I especially like the contrasting vocal styles though. They sound great.

I like it. Sounds nice and grimy. The drums don't sound particularly good, but I got over that pretty quickly as I focused on the riffs and vocals, both of which I really like. You could always just do a digital promo with those track ya know. Just stick it on bandcamp.

Recently I have again started working on my first project, Álfablót. I am in the process of getting a new demo together and would like some feedback on my first new (mostly) complete track. I guess I would describe it as epic black/Viking metal. It has a lot of influence from bands like Summoning and Moonsorrow. Any constructive feedback is appreciated.

For structure, the acoustic intro doesn't flow too well into the rest of the song, and there's some serious discordance going on when the horn/piano enters 2 or so minutes in (I think its the second chord of the phrase where notes are clashing). The acoustic part 3 minutes in sounds out of place, like the start of another song entirely. It transitions back into the main theme well enough though.

The biggest thing I can say is: get some better VSTs. I think if your synths/drums/flutes/what not sounded more like real instruments, I would be able to appreciate this a lot more.

Thanks! Yeah, it sucks having to use a drum machine, but I have a friend who offered to do drums for the album, which I just finished writing! So, hopefully he's still willing to go through with it. Sent him one of the tracks today to send back with his drum tracking.

Actually this project consist of me and my friend, and we've made this demo by ourselves. All your suggestions and criticism are welcome.

All in all the song sounds pretty good, but the bass is EQed like shit and muddies the whole thing up.

Hi, could you guys give me some feedback on this cover I made? I tried to make it generally cleaner than my usual black metal style, for this song is definitely not that, but I feel like I'm missing something in the production. Schweisser's Willkommen im Club:

My version:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzjtpY ... sp=sharing

I did the best I knew how without a bass guitar, and obviously the vocals are just not done (I'm at university and I'd rather not scare and annoy my neighours). Plus, there's a bit of creativity near the end, if you're curious, but that's not super important. Tell me what you guys think I should improve, please!

Song is in my sig. Rough recording using Zoom R8 and cubase for drums. I'm actually chasing a session drummer for the full length if anyone in NSW is interested.

Any thoughts or comments?

I put together a quick black/death metal track. I was going for a dark, dissonant, cacophonous, heavy sound, so please let me know if I succeeded in that.

Considering it lacks bass and vocals I think it sounds pretty good. It could benefit from some better drum samples though! I'd like to hear it when all is said and done though, being that is sounds good in it's current form.

It is hard to say because the drums don't fit at all and don't seem to change which are both highly distracting points.

It sounds weird but kind of neat. It is hard to tell what is really going on snce the combo of the drums and synth often drown out the guitars and the lack of vocals might not be helping. Not really my style, but it is an interesting idea.

I am curious as to what folks think about the current version of the first track from my new band. It is only a rough mix of course, since we still need to record vocals, track the real drums, and perhaps do additional synth and swap out some sounds. In this project I do everything aside from the drums, though I put together the programmed drums for us to use for the time being as well.

https://soundcloud.com/glorioususurper/sceleratus-the-impuissant-grip-of-abraham-demono-vocals-2022017

There are a couple faster songs in the works as well which will complete a 3 track EP.

that was our first demo and easily the weakest as each new track just got better and better. What do you think about this one, it's the best imo http://www103.zippyshare.com/v/gfeDGmQb/file.html We'll be adding vocals later in the month and wanna release our album soon

I liked yours a bunch for a rough mix

It sounds better, but it is still difficult to make out the guitars which are kind of important. It is hard to tell what is really going on when instruments are being drowned out.

Not really my style, but the music sounds really solid. Lyrics are pretty decent too. I am curious as to what a full fledged album would sound like.

What do you think of my vocals. I know the cleans suck, but I'm focusing more on the screams for now.

Note that I had a cast on while playing this, so that's why my guitar playing sucks.

Alright fellas, recently released a modern classical / ambient album and have posted my own thread in this forum but would also be interested in people's opinions here too. Here's an excerpt from my press release:
"The Great Long Distance is an audible recollection of the first 12 months of a long distance relationship, including the highs and lows and moments in between. It is a journal without words, each of the 12 tracks representing each month respectively."

https://johndreedy.bandcamp.com/album/t ... g-distance

See what you think.

This is the only cover song from mine and my brother's Heavy/Doom band Tyranonaut. Death Penalty by Witchfinder General off our debut album.

We tried to stay as close as possible to the original as possible and even Phil Cope had some extremely kind words about our work.
The guitar and drums were live and the rest had to be overdubbed.

Let us know what you guys think! Happy listening!

Me and a friend did a little "dark improv" a few months ago. We pretty much just fucked around for 30 minutes on a live broadcast via facebook. He is playing a 7 string electric violin through his pedalboard, I'm on guitar and banging on occasional cymbals and floor toms. This was just for fun. I didn't really like it at first, but after listening to it a few times I don't think it's bad by any means. I cut it up into three different "tracks" with no editing and I think this one is the best. Thought somebody here might enjoy it, let me know what you think!

Also, here is the only drum cover I've ever done. The second part isn't synced up so well but I don't think it really matters because I couldn't exactly pull the song off 100% anyway and just did it because it was the next song on the album and the camera was still rolling.

We finally finished and decided to release our new full length https://noosefiller.bandcamp.com/album/noosefiller-2

A good amount of time went into this one, and here we've constructed a blistering work of avant garde/industrial black metal infused with dark electronica/IDM stuff. Inspired by stuff like Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega, Aborym, Abigor, The Axis of Perdition, Autechre, Swans, Etc

And it is thankfully wayyyyyy better than our previous releases

you've heard it numerous times, but this is totally my best album (again). It shreds fierce and fuck. Still prominent avant prog elements like the others, but intertwined between longer and less turbulent black metal passages and prog/psych rock suites

https://ququmatz.bandcamp.com/album/well-of-sacrifice

I've done some magic. Definitely something to be proud of

Oof. It's one thing to be proud of your creation but I dunno about declaring that you've done some magic!

That said, this stuff is pretty cool. I only listened to the first two tracks, but lots of neat ideas and while they meander a bit much for my taste it all flows together. I think I heard some clipping or some weird digital distortion at a couple points though. Pretty minor though, and I could definitely see some people being really into this.

So my band All Hell released our third full length album yesterday through Prosthetic Records and I am personally really stoked on it but I also have a very hard time being critical of myself since I am too narcissistic for that haha. The link to the full length on bandcamp is in my signature but I'll also post a youtube link to our newest video which is from the album. Feel free to critique the video and the music. I will note that the bandcamp mp3 compression causes the vocals to mix with the high cymbal frequencies at times causing the vocals to sound weaker than they sound on lossless files and vinyl. Fuck lossy compression!

Hey guys! I made a little test mix to see how my new 7 string behaved in the context of a full mix. If you got any constructive criticism on the mix, the tones, etc. then fire away. By the way, the riffs are from Self Immolation by Fear Factory.

released a split album with this band Wolves in Sheepskin that I know, who play a lotta weird stuff through their discography. Mainly avant-garde pastas of free jazz and psychedelic noise/drone madness. For my side, I went for a funeral doom thing, so it came out with some mournful, prog/experimental and psychedelic death/drone/doom, with little to no folk influence this time. I've been listening to it so much that I got kinda bored with it. I definitely like what I did and thought it turned out solid, but not my most exciting stuff. There's some trudging here and there.

Posted a separate thread for this but thought it'd be worth posting here too.
Recently me and a friend discovered an hour long rehearsal / jam we did years ago with only a single shitty mic - there were some decent riffs buried there so we decided to comb through it, rearrange it and layer some additional parts including vocals to turn them into fully-fledged songs. We thought it came out pretty well but would like to know what people think.

you've heard it numerous times, but this is totally my best album (again). It shreds fierce and fuck. Still prominent avant prog elements like the others, but intertwined between longer and less turbulent black metal passages and prog/psych rock suites

I've done some magic. Definitely something to be proud of

I will agree with you. Fantastically bizarre, effectively emotive, and very unique. I don't really have a criticism.

This is my latest track. I'm very bad at production, but hopefully it carries the impression I was going for.

This is dorky but I also synced up this track with some animation that I find very inspiring

This is a good song, I would say using a compresses vst to take out some of the foggy wispy sound if you wanted to remove that, but the primary thing I would recommend is using two vsts for each track and having each instrument at different frequencies while giving them the warmth that you see fith while also panning each track so they aren't too over eacher.

This is my latest Perdu en Soi ep, I'm primarily looking for tips on the mixing. I've had some responses that the tracks are a little thin sounding. Another thing I've been told was the programmed drums sounded just a little too clean, I'm not terribly sure how to fix that aside from maybe putting one of my spiderfarm distortion pedal vsts on it, but is there another way to go about that or is that the right way?
