"Nortt fourth full length album, "Endeligt", will be out for Avantgarde Music a whole decade after his previous endeavor.

You can order the album and merch directly from the record label here (digital album copies, digipack CD's, vinyl's, t-shirts, and hoodies) - https://avantgardemusic.bandcamp.com/album/endeligt

Very small update, but Nortt has published all of the lyrics for the forthcoming album, Endeligt. This appears to be the final tracklist and in order from what I can presume.

Andægtigt dødsfald
Lovsang til mørket
Fra hæld til intet
Eftermæle
Afdø
Støv for vinden
Endeligt

So, unless there are instrumentals on the album, the record will have 7 songs like the last album did. I'm also guessing that this will be Nortt's final album. Endeligt translates to "finally" on Google translate, but I'm assuming it actually translates to "final". You can also Google translate the lyrics to get a rough idea of what Nortt is saying, although the translation job is a bit rough.

He sure is taking his time with this one. And yes, Endeligt does translate to something like The Final/End, hopefully it won't be his last one though.

Well, that was prophesied last year in Finnish black metal edits of Donald Duck comics.
The speech bubble in the left upper corner: "That was about the distro. And on the label side NORTT sent the master of his new record, but no one can be certain is the DAT broken, or is it really supposed to be this kind of monotonic noise..."

And yeah, I'm waiting for the new record.

Again, a small update... but we have a release window! Nortt posted this today!

"Avantgarde Music will release the new album, Endeligt, when the year is coming to an end"

http://nortt.dk/index.php/1274793

Which means by the time Endeligt comes out, it will have been TEN years since Galgenfrist!

Finally some useful information! I haven't listened to a Nortt album for years, but this has me got me really excited for some reason.

It better be worth the wait! But I'm feeling positive towards this. I don't see a fairly niche act coming back out of nowhere after a whole goddamn decade just for the heck of it.

I'm curious as hell regarding how this will sound like. Who knows what he's been up to all through these years.

The ten years of silence was just the ambient interlude. BLEAK.

But really, very excited! I hope that, as Lord_Jotun says, this is a return due to inspiration. He could have developed in some very interesting directions.

But I also worry that, in an effort to impress after the long absence, it could be unlistenably slow and grating. We'll see.

So, business as usual for Nortt then? This project has always been the laziest doom possible.

Hoping for something good here, always quite enjoyed Nortt but decade long breaks between albums are always a hit and miss thing. Would like to hear some interesting ideas shine through on this

Avantgarde Music's Facebook page posted this on October 4th:

"29 December 2007 'Galgenfrist'
29 December 2017 'Endeligt'

N O R T T

Ten years later....
the Curse recurs...

on CD and LP"

It's accompanied by a picture of Nortt playing a piano. Good news that the fantastic piano/keyboards/synth melodies that Nortt creates is still present in his music. Avantgarde Music also confirm Endeligt will have NINE songs. So, the 7 songs that Nortt posted lyrics for and then 2 instrumentals I presume. I can't wait!!

What if Elysian Blaze announced a new album out of the blue and we could have two blackened funeral doom legends release their first album in years at the same time?

Yeah...that'll never happen. I mean, one can hope, but...

Actually... I've emailed Mutatiis earlier this year and he actually responded back to my surprise. He told me that he's planning to release new music before the end of the year, but it wouldn't be the new album he announced all the way back in 2013. It would be a single song (perhaps also an ambient track added with it). Knowing how long his songs can be, this sounds more like an EP. Which then he would release the new album some time after the EP was released. It's October now and still no new news about that EP. So, knowing Mutatiis, we might be waiting for a bit longer...

"Nortt fourth full length album, "Endeligt", will be out for Avantgarde Music a whole decade after his previous endeavor.
In the placid and green lands of Denmark the black, grieving creature carved a new monument of loss and despair, where depressive black and funeral doom metal mate once again.
“Endeligt” will be out on December 29th 2017, exactly ten years after “Galgenfrist”. Preorders will open on November 2nd, All Souls’ day. Early birds vinyl hunters will have a chance to put the noose around one of the 100 copies printed on silver wax, or one of the 300 traditional black vinyls. Both versions come in black/silver pantone cover. There will not be a more proper celebration to the faithful departed than Nortt's Endeligt."

Yay for preorders starting next month so I can save a bit of cash.

Cover art is kind of meh. Previous Nortt artworks have this ethereal quality to them, while this is far more basic and grainy. Just a tad generic, really.

I agree. A little let down by the cover art. The last two albums had absolutely beautiful cover art, with "Ligfaerd" being one of my all time favorites. Gudsforladt was not bad as well. But, this cover art reminds me of "Graven". Really grainy and hard to make out what's going on. But, as long as the music is amazing, the mediocre cover art will be an after thought.

Can anyone else remember when a black metal band had a 10 year break between two albums? Even Wintersun didn't do that.

Pre-orders are now live here - https://avantgardemusic.bandcamp.com/album/endeligt

Nice selection of items to choose from; digital copy of the album, digipack CD's, vinyl's, t-shirts, and hoodies. I'm for sure pre-ordering the digital copy, but maybe picking up a digipack CD as well. Unfortunately, there are no tracks available for streaming. So, you can't get an idea of what the album will sound like. I know some bands will have one track to stream from the new album when pre-orders go live (the new Summoning album for example).

Full tracklisting:
1. Andægtigt dødsfald
2. Lovsang til mørket
3. Kisteglad
4. Fra hæld til intet
5. Eftermæle
6. Afdø
7. Gravrøst
8. Støv for vinden
9. Endeligt

Has there been a leak already? Are there any samples out in the wild? I could not trace any.

Hopefully this release is better than the previous one.

So far, I haven't seen any leaks. Trust me, I'm so excited to hear this record. So, I hope it does leak. I already bought the album, so I wouldn't feel bad listening to it. Is there a particular website that publishes leaks of metal records?

Why didn't you like Galgenfrist? Galgenfrist might be my favorite Nortt record. It's right there with Ligfaerd.

Galgenfrist is rather uninspiring. It fails to deliver, meanders on without a real sense of direction. Ligfaerd and Gudsforladt are better in this regard.

I might have some bad news for you then. I'm currently talking to Avantgarde Music on Facebook and they just told me this today:

"...if you loved Galgenfrist you will love this one too. the reason why we haven’t put a streaming yet is only because we are trying /for this release/ to keep and hold a retro feeling. the Artist even sent us the master by snail mail and not internet: first case in the last 5 years i think

let’s gain back some holy patience and wait for the beauty to unfold on us"

Mysticum. Also, both Dødheimsgard's last two albums came eight years the preceding ones.

Preordered the cd, the vinyl and a Galgenfrist shirt since they're printing that one too, and I like the artwork better than the latest one. I like a good payoff after saving money for a while

Yeah the ole "If you like this you'll like that" routine is unreliable. That said I would rather he'd said "If you loved Gudsforladt..." but we'll have to wait 7 weeks...

On a side note looks too late in the game for something new from Elysian Blaze. Damn.

I enjoyed Gudsforladt as well, but I thought it started to get a touch repetitive as the album went on. Ligfaerd and Galgenfrist are slightly better in my opinion, due to the shorter length. With Ligfaerd containing Nortt's magnum opus thus far, Tilforn Tid. Man, I hope there's a song on the new album that has that same high quality that Tilforn Tid does.

Speaking of Elysian Blaze, ever since he replied to my first email, I've sent him two more (the latest one just a few days ago asking for an update on the new music) and no reply to either emails so far. I'm starting to think he has a policy of answering emails from fans by giving them one response, but not bothering with any more replies after that.

As I share your experience with him I reckon maybe he thinks follow up questions are tantamount to "stalking". Ha Ha, I dunno. It took Nortt 10 years for a new album so why should we expect different from EB? Let's face it. There ain't no money to be made with this style of metal. It's strictly for the sake of art.

One review is up. He/she loved it. The hype is increasing! I still have seen no signs of any leaks though...

Quote:
Out in the void that metal can tend to inhabit lies a zone that not many know about and even fewer dare to venture towards. It’s one that’s perpetually black and one that always seems to continue growing and the deeper you go the further you are from returning. It’s a place that metal has been known to go to, but there are a few select acts that do it with such expertise that it’s almost unbelievable. Nortt has been lying dormant for 10 years, and with his return, he brings a plague that’s infectious and intoxicating.

Think of the phrase “when you stare long into the abyss the abyss stares back at you” when referring to all that Nortt has conjured from the black depths over his illustrious career that is sadly underrated. Not many acts can survive a ten-year silence much less make a solid effort at bouncing back, but Nortt makes it look like the easiest thing you’ve ever fucking seen with the blackened opus of “Endeligt”. Busting out from absolutely fucking nowhere, Nortt makes a triumphant return with a bone-chilling set of nine tracks that really know how to cut deep and leave scars that aren’t only venomous but also the kind of blade that eviscerates all it touches. “Endeligt” masterfully combines the realms of black metal and funeral doom in a very artistic way that leads to a unique sound that has loads of atmospheric elements to it that enables “Endeligt” to become a wholly haunting experience that’s all but mind bendingly terrifying. Every one of these nine tracks come together to form an experience that’s not only bleak in terms of the album’s themes, but also emotionally as the more you go into “Endeligt” the more your spirit will be weighed down and the more you’ll drift back into the abyss that Nortt has navigated for so long. Many bands have accomplished a very similar feat, but Nortt’s unique vision is one that is leagues above the competition.

The scene has always felt like it needed something menacing to really kick every other act right in the fucking nuts, and the comeback of Nortt is something that easily does such a feat. “Endeligt” has power, terror, and excellence to back its content in absolute spades to make it a definite last stop that must be made for quality metal in 2017.

Another positive review. This reviewer says there are less screams and more use of piano.

Quote:
It was just a regular day, one of those sunny early-fall mornings, the mail came in and there it was. Ten years of impenetrable silence, then one day Galgenfrist successor simply came in with the regular daily mail.

Endeligt marks the first Nortt release since 2007 and will be published exactly ten years after its predecessor. Embark on a new journey through darkness and despair setting out from the island of Fyn. As if the last decade never passed, the Danish master delivers a new sorrowful and intimate album perfectly fitting the space between depressive black and funeral doom metal. Nine slow, black hymns to accompany one’s final journey, in which piano notes and dying screams merge at the end of this world, at the gates of the nether one. Obsessive and repetitive, for twenty years Nortt music has been the soundtrack to a hollow and pointless life.

Endeligt is no exception. This is the album you want spinning while tying the slip knot, while swinging the razor blade, while departing from this pitiless existence. Its black ambience is no victim of trends, passing times nor artistic evolutions: what Nortt music was in 1997 on Nattetale is still in 2017 on Endeligt. Screams are not as prominent, the piano is even more in the spotlight, but that is as far as differences go.

The city of Odense is a frightening place to walk at night, as the demons of grief and loss are being summoned once again.

They've been shipping out records early, I got mine a few days ago. Haven't had time to listen to it yet but when I do I'll post my thoughts here.

Amazing that it still hasn't leaked yet. No one's been posting it on YouTube or torrent sites. I can't wait! Never been so hyped for an album before. Hope you love it!
