Finished Nevermore - In Memory for obvious reasons. Great EP in my opinion - 5 solid songs, all different, all work. Moving on to:

Portrait - Burn The World
Probably my favorite classic metal record of 2017 (along with Satan's Hallow). Catchy and powerful, but actually rather intricate. I love that combination. And those shrieks can bust through walls.

Cradle of Filth - Cryptoriana: The Seductiveness Of Decay

Not usually of fan of Danni & co but enjoying this album and it's concept of the Victorian era. Vocals can still irritate me sometimes but that's what other guys seem to love.

Wolf - Children of the Black Flame

Wolf is my most favorite modern heavy metal ever since I heard them back in the '00s.

Cannibal Corpse - Eaten From Inside

I have to listen to "Vile" more. This was one of the last Barnes-era CC albums I bought and haven't spent too much time getting into it. This track is a heavy and riffy number.

Whiplash - "Spiral of Violence"

The extended clean guitar intro belies the true nature of this track. As soon as the clean part dissolved and fades out, the song reveals its true self - a riff-heavy number that doesn't thrash hard but is still hard enough to send you banging your head to the tempo.

Engulf - Aeons Of Hate

Fairly standard death metal. Nothing exciting happens but it is enjoyable for what it is.

Ghost Machinery-Blood From Stone
Hey it's the only good vocalist from Altaria! Don't know much about the singer besides from a couple great albums from his former band, but this song is great. Great little solo.

Yellow Eyes - Blue as Blue

Reading all the top 10 albums of the year from different lists has me finding some great shit like this.
These guys, Devil's Witches, and Dyscarnate would have definitely made my top 10 if I was to resend one in for the M-A list.

Lock Up - Demonization (2017)

Last time I heard these guys was their debut when they had Tagtgren on vocals. Now they've got Kevin Sharp?! Legends only. Not surprising this is a blasting grindfest. Pretty fun listen.

Opeth - Live in Plovdiv

Finished my 2017 review so time to give this CD a spin which has been sitting on my desk for a couple of weeks. Bought the highly overpriced Prog magazine to get this rarity. Great recent 5 track live (2015) Opeth with orchestra and a nice selection of tracks from all periods.

Soundgarden - Rusty Cage

Really needed after a fucked up day at university.

Legendry - Quest For Glory

Haven't liked a new trad metal band like this in a while. They really have the right kind of attitude and pugilistic, adventurous writing style to make this genre work. I love the odd experimental jammy parts they dip into as much as the heavy, cranking riffs.

Another Day to Die
By: OverKill
From: White Devil Armory

Waited too long to get more OverKill albums. Missing the last few actually. Making up for lost time.

Should really get round to listening to Villains.

Hellwalker
By: Mick Gordon
From: Doom (2016) soundtrack

One of the best game soundtracks in ages. Perfectly suits the game across the board. The music is interspersed with story segments from the game.

Bloodhunter - The End of Faith (2017)

The Spanish Arch Enemy clones second album is pretty average. I like the singer though and the album has a decent attempt at Deaths "Crystal Mountain".

Forefather - _Tales from a Cloud-Born Land_ EP

Haven't seen any discussion of this one, but it should be on some people's Top 10 of 2017 lists. It's no _Steadfast_, but still a really solid slice of melodic, guitar-driven Viking-style metal.

Vampire - Revenants

Vampire dropped one of the best thrash albums of the year but I don't see it getting much love. They really tap into the more melodic side despite being all twisty-and-nasty. People who flip over Antichrist, Condor, & Midnight should love this.

Randy Uchida Group - Deathly Warrior

Broken english, bad production, general sloppiness and highly questionable vocals. This is awesome!

Radiohead - A Punch Up at a Wedding

Digging it. Eclectic and weird and soulful.

Soulfly - Archangel (2015)

This is actually my first time listening a whole Soulfly record and it's way way better than I expected. Not even sure why I was always so skeptical about them anymore?

Origin - The Aftermath

Fast, heavy and technical as hell. Origin delivers the goods if you're into hyper-blasting, technical death metal.

Super overlooked band. Maybe their later work is terrible, but the first 2 CDs are stellar.

Funeral- Tragedies on vinyl from The Crypt.

Still one of the best pure funeral doom albums, with female vocals that really fit the music.

Alchemist - Great Southern Wasteland

Weird harsh deathy vocals mixed with tribal, surf-y, heavy metal music. Nothing else really like this. I haven't played this band enough in recent years - a true original act.

Top-shelf stuff released during a top-shelf year from a top-shelf band.

My personal favorite of their discography. Too bad it's criminally overlooked. At least Troma has put the title song to good use.

Marduk - Opus Nocturne

I love modern blast-happy Marduk as much as the next guy, but this and Those of the Unlight stand as some of the best albums of the second wave.
