Hey guys, here's an original death metal song of mine that I finished a few months ago and figured would be good to share here. I'm doing all the guitars, bass (which is actually guitar pitch shifted an octave down), and vocals with a friend of mine handling the drum programming. Let me know what you think. The production is pretty rough so I'm mostly looking for feedback on the songwriting and playing featured on it, but any feedback is welcomed.

I thought the playing and technique was phenomenal, but I think the songwriting needs a lot of work though. The different parts of the song sound kind of thrown together haphazardly and I think you overuse the rapid chugging riffing pattern too much throughout the song. More riffing variation between the parts would definitely help. Try also to have a good balance between slow, midtempo, fast, and blast beating parts like Suffocation did on Effigy of the Forgotten as well.

Be sure to critique my song if you get a chance, which is the last post on the previous page.

Sounding good there my friend! But one thing about the rhythm guitar, it's pretty loud and it would be sounding way heavier if it was in stereo!

Try this: record the rhythm guitar again and hard pan each channel to the left and right, also copying and pasting the audio on another channel doesn't work, you have to re-record it! (actually there is a lazy way but it involves delaying one of the channels 25ms but it doesn't sound as good).

Apart from that a wee bit more of bass drum wouldn't hurt.

Keep going and good mixing!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the re-recording double/quad track trick works well. :) Sounds WAAAAAYYY better. With some things you just cant be lazy (note to self) ... I'll keep the bass part in mind from now on...haha...Cheers!

Well then, the work in progress of a track I'm working on, Symphonic Black Metal.

Everything will probably be re-recorded, this is just the arrangement preview, but since it's my first take on something 100% solo I guess some feedback would be nice!

A goregrind song that I recorded 4 years ago. I recently remixed and remastered it, and it sounds way better to me. I enjoy it enough now that I think I will start working on it again soon, and I am a far better musician at this point as well.

Here's an improvised drone/noise album me and my friend did awhile back. I decided to put it on bandcamp even though it's just a live recording on my phone. I'm playing a 7 string guitar and my friend is playing a 7 string electric violin. I haven't posted it anywhere really at all, but I figured if anyone might be into it it would be some of the dudes over here on metal-archives. We're just getting around to composing parts and building sounds for an actual studio effort, and as you can tell we love Sunn O))).

Keep in mind this is all off the top of our heads, although we have been working together musically for years and we have a great chemistry. And I wasn't completely sober, and in a really bad spot in my head when this was recorded.

My band just released our first EP, it was originally supposed to be a demo but itnwas so long that we decided to make it an ep instead.

I'm one of the guitar players and wrote/cowrote much of the material with the other guitarist, what do you guys think of our work overall? Do you have any critiques of our sound? What does it remind you of?

I really love the arrangement of it all! It is very well written, however, the mix leave a lot to be desired, the guitar tone is a bit thin and I can't hear the bass at all (if there is any in there and i'm listening through studio monitors) the whole mix sound very off to me... I believe next time you guys should work with a music producer, your music is pretty good and I think it deserves a better treatment.

(Only thing I noticed arrangement-wise is that the drummer plays way too many fills too often, I'm unsure if its giving me that impression because the drums are way too loud in the mix, but there's that as well)

Thanks for the feedback! It's good to hear a real opinion from someone neutral (not just friends, family etc)

We really put a lot of work into the whole dual guitar melody and that's pretty much what our songwriting is based around, however we put very little thought into the tonality of the guitars and when we recorded them we just stuck mics too close to the amps, so we wound up with too much of a trebly bm tone, where it could've been much warmer and balanced.

The bass sounded more loud in the studio because it was going through an amp and DI, but wound up way quieter in the mix for some reason, again it might be the treble of the guitars being too overbearing.

As far as the drums that's just how our drummer plays and We're used too it, he plays kind of jazzy and I think it adds a bit more complexity to the already complex guitar sound, maybe it was a bit too loud but I think it just came out way clearer because we had the drums miced from every direction. (Unlike the guitars)

We were in a professional studio but the guy didn't really have much experience with metal, so we were more afraid of the drum sound getting screwed up (as non metal producers tend to do) that we didn't put as much thought into the guitar sound.

Oh so you guys did go to a professional studio, well that is an actual issue I see people going through with techs that can't pull off the metal sound... It would have benefited the song a lot if the bass was present and the rhythm guitars were quad-tracked, as for the drums the kick is nice and present but the rest of the kit sounds a bit small. Also the vocals need a bit more "mass" to them, clearly the guy wasn't familiar with the "wall of sound" concept.

But oh well it happens from time to time, just keep this in mind when you guys are going to record the full length! I also screwed myself over 3 years ago with my first EP, but in my case I compressed everything way too much and the master ended up a harsh white noisy mess without bottom end, however, I only had myself to blame because I tried to master it in my bedroom with headphones (worst. idea. ever.)

Anyway best of luck, like I pointed out earlier the songs are great, can't wait to hear more from your band! (as for the drummer, jazzy people sure love them fills)

hello, I would like to hear the opinion of more experienced people, where to pull up well and sovetov.bolshey began to be affected by playing the guitar more recently, as well as the rest of the participants in the plans would like to play some depressive atmosphere post black, but so far it turns out something like that, I apologize for the quality of the recording and the general jambs, it was written that I would almost hear what comes out

I love the eeriness of those three tracks... it sounds theatrical in a way that I can say I enjoy, and although I do wish the mix were maybe just a little more clear it does regardless capture a very nice, unsettling vibe :).

I love this a lot, it almost reminds me of like Nuit Noire but way more on the metal side. I could see myself listening to this regularly.

What could I do better with this song? In terms of writing and mixing? I know I need to figure out a way to make the drum track not sound so faded, I tried using some distortion vsts, but they didn't help the blast beat much. I will admit that I wasn't able to get bass into the song because I don't have it with me and I'm not sure if I could get it to tune down to C#, and I need to practice vocals because the style I wanted to use didn't sound right when I recorded them. But as far as what I have here what could be better? I was trying to go a style similar to the Berzerker, Immolation, and Crytopsy which is a little new to me.

would really like some feedback on this: https://soundcloud.com/cavemanofthefuture/anti-life

particularly the mix. i have a cheap setup here, hard to know what someone else will hear. was trying to go for a bolzer "no bass" thing, but i'm not sure how well i'm pulling it off.

the triumphant return of ZON will take you to new lands, riddled with psychedelia and vast, barren expanses of krautrock, dark ambient, and drone/doom metal https://znmusic.bandcamp.com/album/desert-universe

My band just wrote a new song (no lyrics though) and we have a decent quality video of us playing it. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_ ... 8538783629

What do you guys think?

So I'm making the 999th post here.

There's one girl, a good friend of mine, who makes music all on her own. I am curious of what you guys think, any reasonable feedback would be much appreciated (just mind that she is 18, if matters):
